Personally I don't think this expansion is in a position to be considered the best so far.
There a lot of cool little things but there is nothing really substantial that is new (the so called "jesus" features). I don't mean to say what has been done isn't good, personally i think they have done a great job, but it's more of a fix a polish expansion.

It won't be.
Oddysey fail at it's most important assumption - exploration. Bad minigame, nothing something really new etc. just redone exploration but not necessarily in good way... |

Apocrypha is still the most successful. Adding wormholes, sleepers and T3's has been, and always will be one of the most defining points in the history of EVE.
Those were all HUGE undertakings, and for everything to come out the other side balanced and still in use today just goes to prove the longevity of the features and the player base it's spawned.

Despite everything I'm still waiting for some more walking in stations things.
The only reason I resent that expansion was the lack of focus on the many broken systems in the actual game (for the umpteenth time) and introduction of a cash shop.
My personal favorite has been the expansion that introduced Wormholes two years ago.
The upcoming expansion on the other hand... as far as I know the best exploration is always in low sec, but there is far to little low sec to go around.
In high sec Exploration is to competetive making it more of race then anything else and in 0.0 you're never botherd by anyone and got few people to compete with taking the challange of it.
Just changing the Exploration mechanics is not going to make it a more attractive thing, there need to be more opportunities for exploration if you ask me. |

They have some interesting updates to the game engine with this upcoming expansion. But preferably for this winter I'd like them to work on solving the ever-constant boredom of the nullsec sovereignty grind and really bring some fun back into null-sec for everyone. They also have some neato UI changes with this release in a game that has pretty much the same space UI that it had back in 2003. So definitely some ground-breaking changes in this release! :D I'm looking forward to it.
