since they can't jump into systems above 0.3/.4 and can only be built at POSes, I don't think that'll be an issue.

Originally by: Gierling According to my corpmates who were at fanfest it blows up the cans too.
Which might be its only saving grace, clearing all the #@$^ing anchored containers in the belts in Nonni.
So does this mean it gets the pods too? Talk about mass podding lol. Also wouldnt the titan pilot crash out if he actually managed to activate it on a 100 player BS fleet? Thats 200 killmails right there. Wouldnt you would crash when they all got sent out at the same time? Or maybe the mail server would...

first off, how long does it take to set up one of those field generators, and then launch the missiles through it? The way I see it, it will probably be rather difficult to use these superweapons efficiently. If i ever saw someone set up a generator anywhere close to where i was, i would warp out before thinking about anything else. It is as digi so beautifully stated, you are getting worried over nothing, chill out.

What worries me is inflation. It happens in every MMO, slowly but surely the currency becomes less valueble. Especially in EVE, ISK is almost too easy to make.
What is seen as a huge sum of money now might in 2 years be small change. I think Titans as such are a good idea, i can see why large player run empires would want weapons akin to the Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles that real life superpowers have. What we don't ever want is that the cost of a titan will at some point become affordable to Joe Public.

they probably wont be able to hit anything other than dreads POSs, stations and outposts
I would imagine that CCP would require that they be powered up with a horrendus amount of Ice fuel or something, they will require a special outpost to construct. I mean 3 months after dreads came in we are now only seeing them in combat and they have been nerfed a bit.
Im guessing alliance versus alliance would see titans, dreads and carriers all going up against each other im sure that they wont be able to hit anything smaller than a BS. Which means a frig can lock em down and a counter fleet can just smash em to bits if not in siege mode.
Dreads have already been defeated quite easily in combat sure they will be PVP alliance versus alliance vessels but to be hones all the carebears wont even notice em in their safe high sec aresa.

Since begining of EVE people was screaming for titans.
Now when we are about to be serv'd people are screaming for more frigates.
Nicely done people very nicely indeed. Some cheese with that too?
Titans are expensive and huge and slow. There should be always super weapons avaiable and if you have bucks for it then by all means get your nukes ready and heated up. You really think that alliances will be moving titans to do lvl4 agents? Or similar .. Don't worry because the BALANCE that CCP loves so much means that a fleet of frigates will still kill titan worth of 100000x times more than those frigates. Enjoy! ________________________________________________________ Freedom is illusion created by weird voices in my head |

...REALLY HOT AND SEKRET INFORMATION: The devs are going to release super-ultra Titans which will be even bigger versions of the ones people are talking about. Except they'll be a secret! SO SECRET IT MIGHT EVEN BE OUT ALREADY :O
And the only people who will find out how to get one are BoB and 5, because they're all devs and GMs. Planned features of this super-ultra Titan, hereby referred to as the L.A.G. System ("Large Annihilation Gun" System) are:
- the ability to make hundreds of people on the same grid not see anything! - the ability to pod people when they're in the middle of warp - the ability to shoot right past shields and armor!
... totally f***in true. The L.A.G. cometh for you. ¼_¼
I knew it! It is a conspiracy!

CCP plan to release a new tech 2 covert ops cruiser with bonuses to cyno fields, it should come out about the same time as titans.
Looks like CCP have lost the plot!

It was already demonstrated at the fest a titan 1 shotting over 100 npc battleship fleet.
The superweapon is made to kill ships to you know.

We dont want to reduce individual pilots to being just minions.
The individual player needs to be able to affect events in a more meaningfull way then just looking at a titan and going "I mined 0.0001% of the trit for that".
People who feel like that are not in a proper team, the problem you describe is one of motivation, engagement and leadership not one of in game mechanics or effort.
omg listening to you I'm losing the will to live. It's a video game. I play it as an individual in a group for fun. I hate management consultants and I certainly don't want to become one. For some people, Eve is a whole real life career. It's scarey, in a mental health problem kind of way.

I would not worry so much about bigger ships. Titans or whatever.
But I would welcome also other game developments that do not include bigger ships only.
Other games, are first of all other games and hence different, but other games have nice other structures like: - Cities - Factories - Harvesting/Mining Units that mine all alone - Stationary defences - Planetary structures etc.
I would welcome such non-ship improvements to EVE.
Not only always ships, ships, ships.

hmm just an idea... maybe the uber leet i can kill u from the otherside of the galaxy weapon could be used as a giant ION cannon.... not killing just disabling ships on the other end... would be slightly less unbalancing that way :D

If it turns out that Titans are overpowered in the beginning and have a bad impact on the game, they'll tweak aka nerf them, until they fit into the system. Balance will never end. So I suggest to wait and see. CCP won't release the ultimate weapon and let it smash everything else, until one alliance finally wins the game.

That looks better
BTW, Titans are basically Carriers with lots of hp, XL Turrents, and a really big super weapon, and a final note, the cost of Titans will be done so that there will be around 10 of them in the game at a time, so I wouldn't call them all encompassing of combat
If the ship proves any worth in combat, there will be more than 10 ships ingame.....heck every major pvp corp will have one.
ISK is not a problem for well runncorps ingame.....it is just a matter of "How good" the ship versus the cost

Yes, hence BoB own quite a large percentage of the ingame dreads atm yet has even to use one a single time in combat.
Don't be ridiculous. A 40 billion isk ship is not something you simply buy ten of on an average monday, even for us. These things might get to be powerfull, but they also represent the same risk of loss as TWO entire months of pvping for the whole of our alliance. You think we're all gonna be flying them huh ? _______________________________________________

Edited by: Sarkos on 27/10/2005 12:39:21 You know, a couple of years ago a similar thread was posted about how Battleships were going to destroy EVE. That has not happened and neither will Titans or Carriers kill this game.
The cost of a Titan makes it a great risk in combat. It's main advantage, if it still has the ability to carry ships as we have heard in the past, is as a mobile battlestation.
The super weapon looks awesome, but what if it costs 1 billion ISK worth of materials to fire it? Then yes, it should be awe inspiring.
I woul'nt worry, the DEV's are not going to release anything that is so over balanced as to destroy this game. I have faith in this.
Either free the slaves or we will come and get them.

Ambrose, there is no way that Titans, Dreads, Motherships or any other ship type is going to 'End' Eve.
You should wait until they finally arrive and then draw some conclusions instead of whinning about the 'end cometh'
If you do a little homework you will see that the devs are already saying that whilst titans will be ingame in Q2 next year they need so much resource to build that it could be another 2 years before you see one. They are also saying that they might not even be able to hit a battleship let alone anything smaller. As far as a super weapon, it will come with an equal downside. They always try and introduce balance even if it takes a few attempts. The weapon might take 15 minutes to charge it might leave the titan defenceless for 30 minutes after. Why not just wait and see.
Capital ships are an essential part of eve's future for alliances and any corps trying to forge an existence in 0.0 space. With fleet bonuses and leadership additions to fleet engagements, battles should last longer and involve even greater strategy.
If 0.0 space is to be a good alternative to empire people must have the power to defend their POS's.

Why wouldn't they? It's been done in every other MMO. Granted Eve is not every other MMO, but EQ used to be hot sh!t, now it's losing people left and right because they made things too big and powerful and easy(EQ1 is the example... EQ2 listened to the WoW nubs and completely ruined a great start). It gets proven time and time again that when money enters the situation, it controls the situation. Profits are generated by getting new customers. New customers = noobs = "Hey kids, play Eve, fly bigs ships with big guns and blows lots of sh*t the f*ck up!" Businesses are started to make money, no other reason.
I'm in no way saying that the Titan will be easy to get, but there are corps out there with the money to buy a few. MOO once concordokkened CONDORD (which is still held with the greatest respect by me and my RL friends)... with battleships... what's to stop the next big rat corp from doing it? Esspecially with Titans. You think a sentry gun is gonna pwn a shooting planet?
My stand-point, however, comes from a biased man. I am without a Titan. Thus, I hate it. Once I get one and can take a friend in a Covert to 0.0 safely... I'll love the Titans. But, for now all I can really say is...
FIX THE BUGS! WHAT ABOUT THE CONTENT YOU PROMISED BEFORE? UPDATE THE GRAPHICS! FIX THE UNDOCKING SITUATIONS IN CROWDED SYSTEMS! ... There is so much more we could be worrying about or bringing to CCPs attention, but we concentrate on something that isn't even here yet...
