Originally by: Tik'ki I am a female CEO of a 40+ member corporation, IsleOfView, and we have several rl female members. We have a lot of fun teasing the guys and getting teased in return, it makes the game even more fun for all the members. The girls engage in combat just as well as the guys, as well as get rich mining and doing missions and take pride in being female.

Well if you or the other girls would like to join the Women Gamers of Eve [WGoE] all girl chat channel, you are quite welcome. Just contact either Zajo or myself via Eve-Mail. You will need Teamspeak and a mic.

LOL, been planning to buy a mic... sometime... guess I'm motivated now, hehehe.
Because I love my corp, I wouldn't be interested in joining a different one, but I guess the point I wanted to make is that though we joke around a lot with each other, we don't look at each other in terms of "male" or "female", we consider ourselves equals. I feel I've earned respect from both male and female members, and we treat each other with respect. If more males in this game would look at females as just people, there wouldn't be a need for an all-female corp, however I've seen too many times that many males outside of my corp treat me differently once they realize I'm really female.
But, that's why they'll never be in IOV, LOL. I look forward to meeting other females in the game, glad there's a place to gather.

You know I think that's a vrey interesting problem. I think basically no, and most TGs wouldn't be interested in it either since they want to fit in with the desired gender - and they often won't accept that. Example is the groups requiring TS (teamspeak, ;)) for "gender validating purposes"... I guess it all boils down to the fact that people are just not prepared to let in a TG into their gender community.
Thank you for the response Leyli! ( I didnt know someone knew the term, but I was teasing to find someone ) You are right about TG's and not liking to fit in a specific "box"(But I never really feel 50-50)..and that is the problem too...I am in a corp, with men ( where some know "me" and most are respectful ) and its difficult to fit in well, it doesnt feels good when called "mate" , "dude" or, occasionally only, being made sexcistic remarks. It really turns me off. So I seek every occasion to express my female side, which is strong. With this topic I know I cant join a girl channel because I dont like to lie and deceive, but I think you understand that even EVE is a game, I feel left out
TG's are rare in gaming( luckly one contacted me after a smiliar topic ) but I happen to like gaming(Eve, Warcraft, Spellforce, RomeTW etc)...just as I like my more, what people see as, feminine traits
I might sound too serious( ) but I like an part of myself, somehow, in a game
Ok, blahblah is over
Mercurye hides again
NOTE: Kharai..
Hi again Mercurye
I understand what you feel completely. After all it is rather tempting to immerse into a game and be what you want to be to other people who cannot get the preconceptions they otherwise would (in real life, I mean) - but I can also relate to you feeling deceptive just joining an all female channel. I can only hope that some day these barriers aren't necessary and that you and other TGs will be accepted whole heartedly for the persons they are.
About TGs in gaming - they are not that uncommon at all. I think that exact thing - being able to project ones personality into text without having people judge you by your appearance is very tempting in many ways to TGs. Most just do not ever tell about it, simply because they would get the regular "OMG u'r a guy pretending to be a girl WTFBBQ!" response. Strangely enough, F->M TGs (TS's especially) seem to adapt into their role much more easily in game and real life as well. This is probably because of certain biological traits making that way "simpler" regarding "external appearance."
Anyway, chat me up sometime, or I will chat you up. Leeli (and Leyli Kmal) in game. Best of luck!
I am a m2f TS myself and am identified by myself and all my friends as a normal girl. Sure I got a male body but I think that it's the mind that tells who I am, not what I look like. But it would be wrong to say that being TS did not affect my personality. It took a lot of time to mature enough to seperate body from personality and the reactions of many men also done me not a lot of good. I have developed a certain degree of antipathy against men (for a while even real hatred). For that reason alone I would like to play for a girls only corp. I know that is sexual discrimination but I have got the background to explain it; not justify, tho.... If there is any girls corp out there that takes personality more important than body, please invite me in....
Huggzz'n'Kittykisses
Hi Mina, so nice to see you here...as well as Leeli again I UNDERSTAND the antipathy...very much, so much it makes me cry and a little bit( bad :P ) bittered at times.hmmm...oh well
I was wondering..where will this go for us, will we float away and dissapear again after this topic, or....
I just wonder

I got the email about this thread and was quite pleased and surprsed (yes, I'm a woman). I'll definitely be sending an EVEmail asking to join the WGoE (gotta go buy a mic headset again so the HubbyDude can't here the sekrit grrl stuff. Heh).
I've played EVE on and off since 2004 and got my husband into it rather than the other way 'round. Am currently CEO of a corp with the husband but if I were at loose ends I'd happily join an all female corp, despite the difficulties it would face. It's a fallacious assumption that such a corp could not bring to bear the talents and skills other mostly male or all male corps have.
I personally haven't run into any issues with requests for 'cybrrzzz' or harrassment, etc. Neither do I run around saying 'Lookit me! I'm a goil!' and my chat style can come across as 'masculine', sometimes, as my husband says. I don't actively pretend to be male but neither do I feel the need to announce I'm female. I'm a human being first and foremost and that is what should matter.
To the 'boys' uncomfortable with an all female channel - some of the attitudes displayed in some of the posts from the men is one reason. Another is the fact that a lot of folks, male and female, first getting into this game can be overwhelmed by its complexity. Some women may not feel comfortable going to the Help channel or asking men/boys for assistance. For the most part male players are notoriously impatient with women asking questions about the game where they would not think twice about helping out another guy with the same question. Or the male players get patronizing in their responses (like some of the posts in this thread). An all female channel provides a safe space to ask game mechanic questions without getting the 'u r grl, u nub I wnt cybrzzzz!!eleventyone11!!fordfocus' if the issue of gender arises. Why is it assumed that there's some sekrit grrlee stuff going on in the chat channel (I haven't been in it so I don't know )? Why can't they be talking about the best Wolf load out for PvP? Or commiserating over the loss of a ship in a fleet action?
As to the argument about an all female channel being sexist, aren't there corps focused on nationals from a single country? All German or Russian corps? Should they be singled out and told they have to open up their membership to people from France or Australia? Of course not! There are chat channels in various languages specifically created by CCP. Should they be forced to speak English only for me if I join them simply because I don't know their langauge? Of course not! It would be assinine of me to expect preferential treatment. So why, then, can't there be an all female channel?
Now that that's been said I look forward to hanging with the Women Gamers of Eve. ;D

Many of the larger corporations have a few girls between the ranks though, there are more then you think out there. Most prefer to keep a low profile though
Please don't tell my GF she thinks it is a guy thing that is why she lets me play!

I found out about the channel like a month ago and was lazy about getting in, but it's really worth doing. The channel is text by the way, the TS is just to make sure of people's gender.

hey! there are other girls on this game?!?! that's awesome! i would be all about joining a female corp, but i'd like to improve in the game first. i only started playing a few weeks ago. an all girl corp could be quite dangerous to the rest of the population!

Ehhh... I was thinking of making one myself. Mercs and independents who just do what the hell we want to. The all-girl bit was mostly for a laugh rather than to 'prove' anything to the blokes out there or to discuss menstrual cycles. I'd even figured that as long as you (the player) felt you were 'female' it'd count (so that counts in the m2f TS). The big thing that stopped me was realising that the occasional hassle I get from pubescent boys (or maybe middle aged lonely guys?) would be about a million fold if a publicaly known all-girl corp was flying around. And yeah, guys who somehow feel threatened by it wanting to show us up
Might still go for the idea though if it has merit... |

"BOSS"hmmm...it is creative, Jenny
I like Time's idea too...I think diversity in what you do and what to talk ( and how...) about is very nice, makes it very versatile and likeable I think. Personally for me ( and other TG maybe), its a bit difficult to take a place somewhere....gaming can be such a reflection of real life ...and its communities
I still like the discussion and the chat here now....its my favourite topic since a very long time :)

The all girl corp part of this discussion was only a thought to begin with and if it was to ever occur, then it wouldn't be there to prove anything. It would have been made because we feel it would make a change for once

It made me think....why should girls ( or femininity) prove something? Why not the other way around? Obvious?

While it's a good idea in theory, would some of the features of Eve need to be altered for an all-female corp?
The "Production Efficiency" skill could be renamed to "Call Dad for help with assembly" Instead of calling ships names like "Incursus" or "Armageddon", would they be renamed to "Green Ships" and "Yellow Ships"? The Autopilot could be given a male voice that asks "Are you sure this is the right way?" every few jumps The "Repair" facility in stations could lie about how much the ship really costs to fix

I think its a great idea with a woman-corp, but I also think that it is a tricky process to make it work. Lets expand WGoE-channel and see how things turns out. Remember great things takes time
WGoE is not a gossip-channel, its a place to relax, to be understood on issues men dont understand and a place where you just talk without feeling as an outsider trying to squees in...
WGoE = Highly recommended!!!

I'm a woman that plays EVE with my BF. He loves it, so do the guys in our corp. I know of one other woman in my corp, but know many who play EVE. Many of the guys I know who play EVe say they wish their Women would play EVE with them.My corp guys have taught me recently to PvP and I love it. now instead of being Corp Mom they call me Killer Mom lol I get a kick out of it. It's still intresting though with a guy finds out I'm a woman and their all prove it. I have nothing to prove. They usally figure it out after I chat thier ears off. BTW I woould really love to have a ship thats painted Purple and Pink so I could tease the guys. LOL I think Eris would agree on that one.
