And of course who can forget the Space Barbies, customize-able characters, They can play dress up and plastic surgeon. Another element of shopping here as well.

And it has a map so men (who everyone knows hate asking for directions) can still find their way home.

Absolutely, gender shouldn't matter in an MMO. Unfortunately, when women are a minority and speaking out to correct the assumption that there are no women around means that you get labelled as "just wanting attention" and made a target for bullying and **** "jokes" it does matter. Especially when you can't hide your gender on comms.

To be fair, the last person in EVE that I asked for directions, directed me into the loving arms of the Amamake gatecamp.

So it's a bit of a lesson learned on my part to figure out my own directions. And to check dotlan.

Just like most men simply don't consider that parking lots and garages are tense and dangerous places for women, or don't register that the look on a woman's face when you get in the elevator with them is one of terror at being raped, because that happens too, because it's just not our experience of things. Once you're aware of these things, it becomes much easier not to say or do something that gets misinterpreted the way your question was.

This is actually an interesting example. Your intentions were clearly good--TZ is an important consideration for an international MMO. What we have here is just two perspectives with no overlap.

She was apparently unaware that your real question was what time zone she was in, and assumed that you were asking where she lived for other reasons--because women are depressingly likely to get that question for that reason when online. That's why she lashed out. If you ask the question you actually meant to ask, "what time zone are you in, so we know if you'll be on with enough of our existing membership," then there would have been no problem. That's not to say that this was your fault, just that you asked a question that any number of men have had no trouble responding to, and whoops! turns out that the question sounds totally different to a woman who's been harassed in games before.

Just read through that, that stuff has some messed up side effects. I mean, sure, 60 million people in India alone have flouride poisoning, but at least tooth decay has been dealt with.

Maybe said woman should have been aware that asking where she-¦s located is not necessarily a preparation for harassment, and refrain from nasty insults in the first place.

Hey remember when goons were killing ice miners all over the place and every single male miner just said "Well played, good sirs, well played" and maybe raised a single eyebrow for a second in acknowledgement of the brief inconvenience?
