Hey just wanted to raise this issue up on the forums to make sure it's in the attention of CCP who i'm sure are scouring the forum right now looking for bugs and issues that the new version has thrown up.
These is an issue with the newest launcher version where it gets stuck on "validating client 0.0%" and if you try to bypass the launcher and manually boot the game using exefile.exe it just loops around updates the launcher (supposedly) then loads the launcher again and you once again are stuck with the validating issue.
Myself and a member of your Bughunter team where looking at it yesterday, and also a member of CCP was trying to investigate it with my assistance while it was still on Singularity and we where unable to find out what was causing it. Although BH Lightslimit did say he had managed to reproduce the issue last night.
The bug report ID is: 16002
I would really appreciate seeing this fixed as soon as possible, fortunately in case this happened I put week long plus training queues in, but I would still like to be able to play the new patch (especially since new job tomorrow and my time will be really strained).
Anybody else encountering this issue I encourage you to post any errors you are getting or logs that may help CCP investigate and fix this issue sooner rather than later. |

no proxy, wireless to adsl router to internet, found at least 4 guys till now with same problem Service: Corp creation (Amarr/Caldari) |

I am connected a my router on generic broadband provided by Sky, connected via a wired connection, I don't run any kind of Provy, the only network related software I run is Hamachi LogMeIn but that isn't connected or associated with my eve client in any way. |

Right, I'm checking if maybe one of the machines on the CDN got a bad payload. In general, though, it wouldn't hurt to retry it once or twice using the launcher, sometimes this might just be a hiccup somewhere on the internet. Senior Programmer Team Special Circumstances Friend of Walking Avatars |

I've been having this problem for a week and a half, initially on Singularity, this isn't just a the past hour thing, the bug report submitted was submitted prior to Obyssey being released on TQ, however I will keep loading the launcher just incase. Just leads me not to think it's a momentary issue.
edit: Just a note, if I load up the client vs exefile.exe, it tried to download a 23.18mb patch, then closes and say's downloading launcher update, then once that is all complete, it reopens the launcher, and gets hung on Validating Client again, so I seem to be able to download atleast somewhat from the servers. |

I don't use Proxy, and my connection is: PC--> router--> provided by UPC...had this problem on the last launcher update but it solved itself..same as then..i tried repairing it but without results |

hmm, not sure how you have that configured, but if you take one of them down, won't the other machines take over so we get faster fix then one hour, you know the customer care and response time and similar bonus points Service: Corp creation (Amarr/Caldari) |

running evefile.exe from bin folder downloads and instals evepremiumpatch548234 (DL location C:\Users\XXXXX\AppData\Local\CCP\EVE\c_program_files_(x86)_ccp_eve_tranquility\cache)
during instalation i did saw error in creating some shortcut somewhere, but didn't have time to note error and im not sure which log file logs this specific instalation. launcher still hangs at 0% validation, and evefile.exe reports incompatible version and offers to redownload same file again which does nothing Service: Corp creation (Amarr/Caldari) |

So I installed the launcher patch that is under the thread in General Discussion rebooted the launcher, it did something different, w00t but it said downloading launcher update, I left that running and then it failed on the launcher update, the launcher log is below.

Managed to install the offline client no problems here, tried to run it and the launcher was stuck on validating again, running the repair tool still gives me an error. |

Just to let you guys know, I'm still looking into this, but there are meetings and questions from others about different issues that might interrupt this process every now and then. What I can tell you is that you are experiencing an issue with the payload you received. Why, I don't know yet. But I'll keep you guys updated when I find out more, or when I need more information. That seems like a different issue, i'd probably bug report it. You're just having an APPCRASH

So, this might be two things: 1) The decompression of the payload fails for some reason, for example you don't have enough disk space left to unpack it 2) It's another broken payload but this time the corruption happened at a later moment in the payload stream
About the first point: Can you make sure you have 13 GB of free diskspace available on the device that contains your temporary folder (by default c:). It should use a lot less but let's err on the safe side here.
About the second point: Try running it again please, and if it still fails we'll need to do a trace route to the payload file. It can be that our CDN provider has a faulty server somewhere and a trace route is the only way to identify this. To do that, please open a command line and type the following: tracert cdn1.eveonline.com Then send me the results via private message, screenshot or pastebin, whatever you see most comfortable. After doing a clean install using the Offline installed then following the post in General discussiong here I can use the exefile in the bin folder and connect to TQ without a hassle. I got into that same folder and use the launcher or anything else, it will stick on validate. |

point is, afaik validation should start and say its not same version and start patching , for some reason it doesn't start validation, so im guessing its the launchers fault, still going to wait
I have no idea of the process of validation, so: 1) Validation does its thing then checks check sum on server = fault with launcher since it doesn't start validating. 2) Validation ask server for check sum before checking my client = fault with network, OS or same as above.
When doing repair we get error: unpack requires a string argument of length 4 , which meant that we are missing argument somewhere, shooting in the blank over here at this point, but could it be that the problem is related to Win 32 or Win 64 OS since the argument could be wrong length due to system architecture.
Those are my 2 cents at this point, since I've so far tried everything from manually clearing caches, starting and restarting most of the .exe files and from what I've gathered from the logs.

Well, the launcher has a checksum db of it's installation. Where it's failing is when it's trying to get the checksum db to compare against from the server. So either the connection is bad (which is possible and the whole reason why checksums are being verified multiple times in the process), or you are hitting a server that has a bad payload (just as likely as the bad connection). :-)
The repair tool, btw, is exactly the same code as in the launcher. The only difference is that the repair tool forces a re-creation of the client-side checksum db. The point at which you are seeing the unpack error is not specifically robust code, but it's basically happening because you didn't get the first 4 bytes from the payload. This is a genuine defect that I fixed locally earlier today after your initial reports. The code now retries a couple of times but it might still fail if after a few seconds we still haven't received those 4 bytes. I don't want to rule out that the method used might have an issue on different platforms, which is exactly why I am asking about OS version and CPU. I too am having this problem... (validating stuck on 0.0%)
I too am on laptop with sky broadband.
Have plenty of hard disk room. exefile in bin directory does not work, loops round back to launcher and hangs on validation 0.0%.
CPU = i7 Q840 8 Gb of RAM,
Dual 1 Gb ATI mobility radeon's 5800's.
Cannot download newest offline payloads(hangs on starting download) for fresh install, but still have previous versions, tried to re-install using these = same problem. Tried to delete launcher file in directory and replace with new, this does not work either.

I had the same problem with the validation and I've discovered a problem with spybot. I removed that program and started to download. |

Hi I had the same problem like the others. I just found the problem after the mentioning of spybot, as I use him too. Spybot has an build-in proxy service, which is turned on by default. After deactivating this proxy, the validation worked. I hope this helps others, and thanks to Skanny Aylet for mentioning Spybot ^^. |

PROBLEM SOLVED
Like Skanny Aylet mentioned, freaking damn spybot
After I've stopped spybot services lost all connectivity on port 80, other services (teamspeak/skype) still worked but coudn't browse internet. Uninstalled spybot, restarted computer, reconnected on my wireless and now its downloading.
Thanks everybody for helping out, this solution works for me.
Might be good idea to include this in some sort of guide for all people who have spybot that they might have issues connecting
(still not logged in, but patch is downloading)
EDIT: Like somebody mentioned, spybot does have some sort of proxy, little bugger Service: Corp creation (Amarr/Caldari) |

Thank you all for the trouble shooting. Even though it appears that it might not have been a problem in the launcher per say then it also helped me find something on our end that was a bit weak in its implementation and improved it. :-)
All that being said, can you guys tell me the versions of Spybot S&D that you were running so that I can get in touch with the developer to make sure that we place nicely together in the future? Senior Programmer Team Special Circumstances Friend of Walking Avatars |

already deleted it, so can't say for sure, but irony it was installed 4 days ago, so latest one on their page, that would be 2.1 Free version Service: Corp creation (Amarr/Caldari) |

I have now removed spybot (although I will re-install and disable proxy setting). Client is now patching.
Sorry not sure which version of spybot I had. Only installed it last week though.

Thanks to everyone who took part in figuring this out. Been having the same problem on my laptop but not my desktop.
Oddly they both have spybot installed but I haven't had this problem with the desktop. Will check versions when I get home!
Cheers for enabling me to fill my empty skill queue again whilst away!!!!!

Please check your internet settings and restart EVE: Online Launcher.
