So fellow yarrs, what do you plan on doing since sniping (the only way to actually make isk in piracy) is gone and instas are still in.
Not to mention belt piracy doesn't work since just dock when you enter system.
I was thinking get someone to fly a scorp armor tanked and some booster and disrupters to hold a prey long enough for the more hard hitting BS's to get lock and kill.

Since when is sniping the only way of making isk? Ok ive only been piewating for like 1,5 month now, but ive made 150m+ in belt's. Dont know if that's good, but it's enough for me and im having fun doing it. Nothing more fun then ransom ppl, or trying to do it. there is no piracy in .0, so please dont confuse "surprise PVP" with empire "true" piracy.
.0 doesnt have any laws, so you cant possibly be a pirate.
but yes, Dio, we will just have to continue gateganking:D its far more effective then sniping to be honest.
also, im feeling interceptor/assfrig attacking complex action sometime soon :) |

May I ask where you pirate, because everyone in low security Amarr region just goes and insta docks as soon as you appear on local. I honestly think a lot of it also has do to with your characters name. I of course would usually appear on the more notiacable top while you would be more hidden.

Aunenen. And I mostly do it in small ships rifters etc, so people don't tend to run as fast. Also you can find a lot of NPCers about.
Though I have to admit I did get lucky and make 250mill from a wolf vs hawk 1v1 one time And 80mill another time from a harpy.
But in general I find you can make ok isk belt pirating, complex pirating and ransoming. Maybe it does depend alot on where you pirate though. ------------- Order of the Wombles: Recycling those untidy modules on your ship.

heh no piracy in 0.0 what a joke. Don't speak on something you have no idea about. Because you fail doesn't mean others fail. Assumptions are also ignorant as well listening to others who say something is dead. It is true majority of the trade runs and mining occurs in Empire yet the alliances today are HUGE. Lots of 0.0 mining going on and lots of transport ops going in and out of systems. Pirates are simply to scared to engage or yet to stupid to see it. I can think of nothing better but 1 frieghter and 1 scorpion moving a full load of ore up 7 systems alone. Why can't you?
If sniping is gone there is still tanking which so many have said. Only problem with tanking is the fact you have to tank massive gun fire while diverted to a single target. Which leaves a big weakness on pirates part. Even more on a solo pirates part. None the less, it's similar to sniping. Whatever kills the target... Isk always to be made in empire. So I have no clue wth Dio is on. But it must be good.

0.0 isn't anarchy. Alliances have the control of law. People break them day to day. Wither or not they can justify it is not really the matter. Anyways, what does breaking laws have to do with anything? You're not a pirate unless you're near concord or something? More pointless statements 4tw...

You could always hop into a smaller ship (i.e. cruiser/frigate) and learn to use the scanner, rather than using a covops alt to warp your bs gank squad on top of that 10 day old NPC corp caracal

Belt piracy is a lot more involved than just ganking or sniping and requires more skill to be effective. Takes practice, but you learn a lot and you can make a lot as well. Plus its a lot more fun to hunt someone rather than sit around (sounds like mining ships instead of ore to me).
I have had a good bit of success pirating in belts, not to say that there isn't a learning curve, but once you get the basics (using a scanner fast and effectively) you can start doing some damage and putting that isk in your pocket.

pff, if you would ever tried belt piracy you would know it better. Best is if you enter a system in a navitas and you make 5 BS dock and smack from station how much you suck since you couldnt kill them. Sorry but thats the reality you face when you try to pirate in low sec. If you mean adding the belts to overview, warpping to the planet, putting the range to 180 and see what shows up and what belts on teh scanner, narrowing it more then 60 and looking at the previously shown up belts that showed goodies it isn't hard to do, but I'd love to know how you are suppose to do this without resorting to a alt. Anyone that sees you in local checks you out (I know because as soon as I enter system the idiots convo straight away because I have filter off), see your security and run.
Basically, I am calling BS on you. Gate piracy is the only piracy in low security for us outlaws, and ccp gives us no other options but to kill everything that enters.

if you know the system it doesnt take more then 30sec to narrow down around wich area a person is in and the another 30sec to know exactly where he is if he isnt at a safespot or one of those funky off plane safespots wich cant be probed. and if he is at a safespot you can probe then you should have someone probe him asap. and then go kill/ransom him.
but that would mean working harder then sitting 151k off the gate 23/7 doing "target....shoot" and have a hauler loot and dump in station.

I really don't get this. I have gone to -10 just from belt pirating. I haven't gate ganked, or sniped once. People don't just insta dock as soon as they see you on local in my experiance (then again I live only in one system).
Maybe the people in aunenen are just not as bright as everyone else? Maybe I have more patience? I certainly didn't expect to hear that old belt pirating is too hard argument from a member of Teddys.
Every now and again I will get someone on local saying "where are you pirates" or some such, because they actually EXPECT you to only gate gank, but I don't think my rifter would last very long. Pirates have been making excuses for not belt pirating for too long.
I hope I don't sound like I am flaming anyone, but if we can do it, i'm sure people who have been pirating for 1 year + should be able to do. ------------- Order of the Wombles: Recycling those untidy modules on your ship.

You know, instead of whining about how you can't do enough damage at 150km+ after the patch, you could get a friend in a tanked and/or boosted Raven (+resists post RMR, too) to just scramble whatever defenseless haulers come through so you have extra time to kill them.

I had an idea for a lowsec revamp a while back, it went something like this:
.4 sec, close to highsec empire, has sentries, real-time local list update, faction navy battleships that attack pirates (not unkillable like CONCORD, just good guys instead of pirate rats) at every gate & sentries, harder to pirate in but possible .3 sec, further in, delayed local update, sentries & frigate navy npcs that engage pirates at gates & stations .2 sec, no faction npcs, delayed local, weaker sentries that are possibly destroyable i dunno .1 sec, no sentries, delayed local, possible battleship/cruiser rat spawns on gate, making it possible to pirate gates in smaller ships
also in the ideal world sentries wouldn't fire on you after you left and came back, and wouldn't fire on you if you ganked someone in a belt but that's just me.

Only limiting factor are sec hits which, thb, are the biggest inhibitor by far. Logic and maximizing your profit entails moving around frequently and placing yourself in optimal "choke" points of low sec around the galaxy. Sec hits make that process a huge PITA.
WTB the old days where your sec status eroded positively when you went "afk" on a given character for a period of time. If we could get that back, then all you'd have to do is field a stable of alts and pirate consecutively with them while the ones on "afk" status redeemed their sec status >< :)

How exactly do you figure this?
You can *sort of* pirate in unclaimed 0.0, or contested 0.0 -- but it's absolutely pointless in the majority of 0.0 -- somebody sees you, get's in alliance chat and you're blobbed in an instant.
Sorry, I don't do blob fights :)
Well it's rather simple really. You should know if you have played EVE long that Alliances mine. Alliances build stuff and move stuff around. Some weaker alliances even do this with weak defenses. Which alliances, well that's something you have to research as I did. The isk is there just as it is in empire with people running with weak defense into 0.4-0.1 systems.
I really don't understand what you mean by "Blob Fights". I mean do you really think that if you happen to gank a alliance hauler that a massive blob is going to come and find you and instant pop you? I mean if you're sitting there gate camping as in NOT ROAMING or even worse not using tactics then yeah I guess I could fear a blob. Being a solo pirate/pvp pilot, if someone sends a blob down to flush me out then by the time they get there im already gone or SS cloaked.
Maybe you're just one of them guys who likes to set up camp in one system and not roam around though. So people know where you are and so you can be blobbed. But hey, we all have weaknesses eh?

So THAT'S why i'm succesful... Not that it matters when there are only a couple people in local.
Most locals only show 3-4 names, odds are yours would appear at the bottom and not at the top screaming "PIRATE BE HERE".
99% of the time there arn't more than 3 people in system. Normally if sombody is in a belt i am on top of them within 30 seconds if i know the system, 40 if i don't. Saying you can't get kills or make a profit because of where your name shows in local is pritty weak, chances are much higher that you just suck at catching people, but i've never seen you in action so i don't really know.

The southern regions are horrible for belt/plex ratting.

Well, I just wish I could have popped this freighter, going through lowsec without instas :D
ok here are stats from the fight:
Time: 11/3/2005 12:38:35 PM Character: Azaeren Location: XXXXXXXXXX a 0.3 system Duration: 00:05:39 <lol almost 6 minutes at a gate>
My Weapons Used
800mm Repeating Artillery I
Enemies Attacked
Tardplayer with expensive ship 'Akira'(Fenrir)
Damage Done: 37014.80 Damage Received: 41906.30 <from sentrys and billboard, not the guy as he has no weapons>
Atleast I got a 70m isk ransom before he managed to crawl to the gate and jump out. Im wondering how much it cost him to repair that beast of a ship. |

With the move to low sec by the dedicated mission *****s, there is another option to belt piracy and gate ganking. Despite common opinion, deadspace missions are probe-able, but it's a question of luck and practice whether you can find the deadspace mission fast enough that they haven't already finished the mission. Extravaganzas are nice as there's not too much travel distance between the gates usually, so you're likely to land pretty close to your target.
And of course missions that occur near planets are extremely easy to probe.

Belt or complex or mission spawn point piracy is certainly alive... but I'm not sure if its well. Why?
Local chat: that oh so omniscient scout, really puts a damper on your chances of catching anyone or anything if you are a known and negative SS pirate.
MWD use: Catching anyone in a complex or deadspace mission without the use of a MWD is additionally difficult.
Keyed Complexes are nearly instancing: Often you cant get near your potential target as most complexes are protected by keys, easily preventing you from geting to the potential victims.
Mission runner bookmarks nigh unscanable: So often well off the solar plane leaving you unable to find them with scan probes.
That leaves belts (which are not as often populated as they were been pre exodus) and require a sleeping target and gates which require using tanking BS (largely unable to tackle) or snipers (which most people agree is somewhat lame).
Hence the whinage by some. Removing local chat or delaying entry would go a long way toward improving piracy options, making it both more feasable when you did find someone in a system and simultaneously more difficult to find anyone.

why not just remove the sentrys around stations on .4 and below and make probes usable beyond the crappy .5au up and down plane. i dont like the sniping at gates as it takes no skill basically to just sit and hit F1-F8. ive done it but its no fun, however CCP has forced pirating to become mostly BS oriented due to sentrys in low sec. so with a area where there are few ppl stopping and living there is little to no option but to snipe people who pass the system. the whole sentry in low sec needs to be reconsidered or reconstructed somehow. it is suppoused to be a dangerous place not very safe as it is now for mission runners. the piracy proffession need a bone, throw us a few CCP, its about time.

I will admit Dionysus is correct in that he won't have any luck with belt piracy in Aridia, as he is far to well know and predictable. However, many other's in Aridia do it just fine, but then again they make a point of mixing it up and occationally taking there act on the road so as to allow the locals to become complacent again. Doing this requires effort, planning and a certian amount of risk though.

Ok, and who is going to stick around when a -10 guy enters local? I use to bear it up in low security and I know I didn't either. Everyone that entered local I showed info. If I was at a complex I used the scanner to see if they went to the acceleration gate (Though I doubt most people do that part)

Well, since your "break" was during the Bob cleansinng of Aridia there was hardly anytime for the locals to become complacent. In fact, they are probably more on edge than ever. The suggestion on becoming nomadic is what would serve you the best if you are really concerned about your livelihood becoming endangered. It is very true that many belt ratters and miners in other areas than Aridia can be very complacent and easy to jump. As the video's and testomonials should have proven to you by now, it is very much possible for a -10 well known pirate to make a living with belt piracy.

I can feel what you're saying but then again it effects us all with low security. I enter a system and they see -7.0 and it's like dock or log off. But not everyone is paying attention to local all the time yet others are. Now I headed back out to 0.0 for more combat training because I lacked it in a number of fields. So now instead of just visting 0.0 for lone ops I'm based out of 0.0. The point here is, people don't dock in 0.0 because of my status. Nor do I have to in the same system to intercept someone. So on that hand, I don't see what you're saying.
You need to get out to more places and stop spending so much time in one region/system. Sounds like you found a nice fishing spot and you want to keep fishing it. Need to think outside the box and get to more new places to belt piracy. If not then you seriously need to start looking towards gate camping. That's where the most ISK is made in the first place. By the time they see your -10 or your name they're dead or being ransomed.

That's a really dumb and erroneous argument. It's piracy because it is against the will of whom you are ransoming/extorting/killing/looting, not because it's against the "law".
Ganking/killing randomly in empire doesn't "make" you a pirate because it is illegal in empire, it makes you a pirate because your are doing it for profit. If you are just ganking/killing and not doing it for profit, you are not a pirate, you are just a ganker.
The operant word of pirating is to "plunder" and to "prey upon others" not whether it is "legal" or "illegal".
There are so many pirate wannabe's that just randomly gank and call themselves pirates. That ain't pirating.

wrong. pirates are people without "blue" list of people not to shoot at(that really definses them more than anything). Pirates want your modules. I could sit around and play games with ransom but that just puts me behind schedule and frankly directness is a admirable quality in my book. Thus, I blow your ship up and your modules are mine. Again, I AM a pirate. That you got "ganked" just means to me that I brought more to the table than you had and you want to sort out your inadequancy in that regard by classify me as a "ganker" versus a pirate. Next time, for your sake, you'll need to know more about where I am and what I have to kill you than what I know about you in those same categories. Otherwise, I'll take your modules again.

I don't know, it may just be the area im in but i easly catch 2 or 3 people within the 2 hours i can spend playing each night making an average of around 7 million per catch.21 million a night may not be much, but its earned from 2 hours of thinking and having fun, not staring at a roid/gate/npc all night repeating your actions untill it all looses meaning.
The uncertanty of lowsec PvP and pushing of my ships limits are what i play for now (can i take that NPC hunting ferox, moa and ospry out with my thorax...lets find out..), the money tends to just build up in a stockpile to do soemthing with at a later date .
I believe the key is roaming over a far enough area for your raids to be infrequent against any one group.
As long as no-one fears you enough to add you to their addressbook and you know a system well, you can often get in and narrow someones position down before they realise you are there, do a show info and warn their friends.
The most imporant thing is to be creative and take advantage of stupid or lazey prey and intersperse this with attacking things you really shouldnt be able to take down

dionysus is correct.Belt piracy in empire is quite impossible if u got a name.As soon as i enter a local in my region every single person in that local immediately warps to safe spot or insta dock to station.Your chance of catching them is zero. I quite like tanking the sentries anyway but the trouble is the timer.4 kills per hour is not enough for me even if they r battleships as u can never guarantee good loot even from bs kills. Aye and those with good scanner skills but a poor name should adopt a tackler newbie and teach him to use a scanner.
Wait outside system on gate, send in said newbie to catch for you.
Just having a low sec status will still not be enough to drive away all the folks in local (if it was i wouldn't be so successfull) so as long as the newbie learns the value of STFU the kills should still be linked to you (USE your infamy), letting the tackler newbie stay in his role till his skills improve enough for him to fill another role. Then you to replace him with another tackler newbie.
I have never had to go down this route, as my name is not linked to piracy, but i have seen other more famous names use a method like this.

May I ask where you pirate, because everyone in low security Amarr region just goes and insta docks as soon as you appear on local. I honestly think a lot of it also has do to with your characters name. I of course would usually appear on the more notiacable top while you would be more hidden.
Immediate local has to go.
I feel your pain on the nick part, as mine starts with A... If i only had known...!

Psycarne is known to make false claims....take his claims of making vast profits from belt pirating with a grain of salt, i'm sure he makes some cash, he's not totally useless...but i do recall about 3 weeks ago he tried to pirate my Ferox (my character is something like 2.5 Months old now, so about 2 months at the time). I locked him up, webbed him and blew half his hull off before he warped out and insta docked.
I then posted a warning in local about 5 minutes later warning everyone that he was pirating in the area. He posts a response in local laughing at me saying he just blew up some guys Ferox 5 minutes ago....
Heh, yea, he's a real cute one...but not very truthful. He was flying a rifter tho so he aint lying about that.

lol, bitter?
first though i might tell you that a rifter is a frigate and you were flying a battlecruiser. sometimes that equation doesnt work out to the better but you would be amazed how many times it does.
ill make sure i help Psy next time we see you in local and blow you away with a battleship instead and then smartbomb your pod to get you out of local.
as for saying he make false claims thats low. i could post a link to the killboard with all his solokills in his rifter but that would be against the forum rules so i suggest you ask Psycarne for the url ingame. until then i suggest you stop flapping your gums about things you obviously havent got a clue about.

Thats darn impressive. Do 800mm autocannons hit from 150km away? Thats where I last saw you in relation to a gate

Ok... I have to make a confession. One time I couldn't kill a ferox in my rifter.
I know, I know it sounds ridiculous. Tech I frigates can magically kill battlecruisers 100% of the time no matter what their setup, so clearly I am quite incapable of playing this game. Obviously, I will be resigning as a pirate, and will undergo 4 months of self flogging.
Thank you for your time.
Erm... facetiousness aside, your post dosen't actually make any sense Fuzzina Finzirak, why the hell would I have attempted to insta dock in my rifter when I was flagged? Sentry tanking in a rifter tends to be a bad idea. ------------- Order of the Wombles: Recycling those untidy modules on your ship.

If you think there are no pirates in .0 .. come visit 7q.. give you .. mebbie 30 secs .. max. .. There are 'plenty' of pirates in .0 .. I would say almost all are either pirates; or trigger happy mercs. Imperal 'rats' aren't pirates; your just wanna be noobs. Play hard or go home. -Blitz-
Originally by: Azaeren there is no piracy in .0, so please dont confuse "surprise PVP" with empire "true" piracy.
.0 doesnt have any laws, so you cant possibly be a pirate.
but yes, Dio, we will just have to continue gateganking:D its far more effective then sniping to be honest.
also, im feeling interceptor/assfrig attacking complex action sometime soon :)
