Well done to whoever designs the level one missions.
A brand new player and newest member of my corp, just finished the first story line mission went to a level one agent in Vaere and asked for a mission.
Deliver trash to Iges. Which of course is low sec. But mission goes ok.
Next mission deliver stuff to Ruerrotta. Which is two jumps into low sec. He delivers the stuff ok, but is podded on the way back.
Logs off. Next day the clone accident Eve mail arrives.
So thank you very much to whoever thought it was a great idea to send a newbie into low sec for their first two missions.

Yeah...but why is the mission there at all?
What do you expect a newbie to do? Simply just sit at the gate confused?

does seem a bit mad. i remeber when i started (long ago) and i coul;dn't even do the tutorial mission as they had bug in them. you had to scoop a drone, and it wouldn't fit in my cargo, even when empty. so friendly chaps helped me out and told me what to do.

I agree that Lv 1 missions should not be sending noobs into low sec (submit bugreport) but theres a bigger issue here thats not entirely ccp's fault.
When a new player joins a corporation, why do corporations no longer teach thier new members the basics of eve? Rule 1. if you jump into a low sec system you can get blown up by other players. Since when did corps stop caring about thier members? In the early days corps were like family, how common is that now, or is this just a snobbery of veterens to new players, rich to poor?
Thats the problem with corporations today, they spam recruitment, but when you get in you just become another number in thier member count. Surely yourself, or experienced members or directors of your corporation should be looking after your new members a little better.

More likely is that he just rerolled a new character. I think he felt bad losing the ship he had just got from the corp.

Boo frickin' hoo. This person was in your corp? Why didn't you... oh I don't know... help him? Point out to him that he should not do delivery missions so close to low sec space, because agents may send him into danger? Advise him to take the "Low Sec Warning!" seriously? Screen your corp inductees a little better to weed out people that quit after one podding?

I made a minmatar character a wee while ago, didn't stick with it but I noticed the tutorial storyline mission, 'Serve the cause' or whatever, sends you into Amarr space several times to bring refugees back to Minnie space. The route went through a few low sec systems, I remember seeing a stream of reaper newb frigates just autopiloting through these systems. Looked like a griefer's wet dream. __________________________________________________

buhu, get over it, read the mission descriptions - be glad he learnt that lesson before he had a head full of implants, hundreds of hours of gaming time and a high value cargo.
The mission descriptions tell you it's bad, the jump prior to 0.4 tell you it's bad, perhaps it'd be better if he learnt to read?

They know everything better then you. They lose ships they got from corp to the same lvl 3 mission over and over again. Even if you tell them what skills they need _at_least_ to be successful. They judge older players after being two weeks in the game.
Only the most patient don't get tired from being ignored all the time.

Edited by: Vaugue on 11/11/2005 15:22:37 the point is the first set of tutorial missions sends you into low secure .... I had the same issue 5 months ago. It bothered me a bit but i kept going. It has also happened on multiple occasions to new recruits in my core we have gotten... needless to say most of them didnt get passed the free trial...
You do the deadspace tutorial and you are immidietly refered to a storyline agent in the Sobaseki Caldari Provisions Warehouse where you need to complete about 15-16 courier runs.. These are high faction storylinesnot something you just skip because they send you into low secure?? Not even in the game for a few hrs to 1 day and you send a guy to do a courier 3-4 jumps into low secure??? ===========================================================

The sooner you get use to dieing in Eve-Online and accept it, the more fun you are going to have with this game. Every new player who logs into the game should be killed 10 straight times just to get them warmed up. Its been said repeatly over and over again, Eve-online is not a carebear game. As much as some people around here want to make it into one.

Whats all this junk about "boo-hoo" get over it? I mean come on people... you can obviously leave more construsctive comments than that! Are you at all educated! ... oh nevermind, you're just another chestpopper.
This is an issue when they send noobs to low sec. I'm sure to long time players its no big deal to lose a frig or a noob ship for that matter. But do you all forget what it was like to be a new guy? Not to mention how harder it is and longer it is now to train and build up your character.
There is a warning, "low sec" ... but do they really know some gate ganker could snipe them with 1 shot? And not every corp can be a mother to all new members. If they dont ask questions, you cant expect to know what they are doing 100% of the time.

Eve is not a carebear game? I beg to differ on the changes in the last 2 patches and what's ahead to be served.... It is becoming "typical MMO" to say the least, other than the fact that i haven't played in 3-4 weeks and i still gain more skills . So you don't grind skills or levels... you still grind everything else. Gotta love Blackade Mission and rescuing the damsel 6-10 times a day.

It seems to be a common misconception in this game that there is somewhere, outside of being docked, that is 100% completely safe. It doesn't exist.
As others have pointed out, there are numerous warnings for the sake of newer players indicating where that safeness percentage will drop dramatically, BEFORE they're in the position to be in more danger. People need to pay attention more.
That being said, level 1 missions shouldn't ever send people into low security space like that. In fact I'd venture to say even level 2 ones should do so only rarely, and reward the player accordingly. Level 3 and 4, all bets are off in my opinion.

What a dumbass post and a totally anti-social reaction you've made there. New players keep the game fresh because old players like you become like incontinent OAP's in Nursing Homes constantly whinging about all the "darkies" there are these days.
Have some compassion and sympathy. Most of all, just roll up and say "it's an error in gameplay and should be fixed" - new players rely on older players to show some level of moderation. Moderation is something that is sadly lacking in the griefing community imho.

One of my very first mission when I had JUST started I went out to 0.0 (don't remember where at all.. didn't care to take notice of the map then ) I accepted a mission and my corpie (Sara Kerrigan) said I was going to get pwnt hard...
Well, I think I was able to do 1 or so, then it asked me to go mine, so I went and fit my nubie laser and went to a belt, and after mining for a bit some scary cruiser NPCs spawned and wtfpwnt me.
Moral of the story - Who cares if you die so early in the game.. You really have nothing to loose, you learn a cheap lesson (and there are very expensive lessons in Eve) and you may end up being addicted to the game anyways and spend the next few years of your life playing it. _______________________________________________

New players have enough trouble attempting to figure out the controls, how to use the market, how to do anything in the game as it is, much less be sent to low sec in a ship that blows up if a strong fart hits it.
The starter agent missions were not supposed to send them into low sec, it was a bug introduced with Exodus, and was supposedly fixed some patches back.
If you have new players entering your corp, spend a few minutes explaining this to them. If they are given a mission that sends them to low sec, they need to file a petition on it. Also, new players should be advised on how to set their map and autopilot settings.
And FYI, if you are flying on autopilot, there is no warning given when jumping into a low sec system. That should be fixed so that it drops you from autopilot when approaching a low sec gate, and then pops the notice up. After that it's up to the player to decide to keep going.
New players are any games lifeblood, they are what keeps it growing and going. ________________________________________________ From deep in space where nobody hears my screams... Sometimes in fear, sometimes in anger, mostly just my singing style. |

Was this a training mission or a lev 1? If it was the latter then there is this small matter off declining the mission! And logging of while podded in low sec is well not smart. I think the responsability is mainly to blame at the corp for not teaching there new members the ropes.
What is next a noob is killed on his 1st kill mission and starts complaining about it that it's to hard ?

Tutorial missions sending new players to low sec is plain wrong. I remember I had several tutorial missions that sent me to Gallente space and I had to go through 2 low sec systems. Back then I thougth that if I do everything right I won't get killed. I really wasn't killed then, but only because I was lucky . I'm really surprized that this issue is still unaddressed by CCP as after CW patch going from 1 empire space to that of another empire got even more dangerous.

Actually, when I had my first trial account, I didn't continue playing after I lost my prized Rifter to a gate sniper in my last few days. It really put me off the game, and I ended up playing Lineage 2 instead which was just coming out of beta. Of course, those kinds of games just don't last, and here I am.
Eve is definitely "for me", but I wouldn't have come back if my brother didn't already play it. The point is that Eve back then had a steep and unforgiving learning curve, which can put newbies off it - which is a shame since many of them could very well have become huge fans (like me). I'm sure it's better these days, but sounds like it could still use a little work here and there still.

2 things, Deja:
1 - No, I will not "shut up". I started when there was NO agent library, it was all agent referrals. There was no sentry guns, nothing. All I had to help ME was the "this is dangerous" popup which, like most people, I just completely ignored. It cost me a few pods. Did I whine? No. Did I get over it? Yes. It made me stronger, I'm still here - if people are so goddamn weak that they can't read, can't learn and just WHINE then I have absolutely ZERO sympathy for them.
2 - Notice that it isn't the pilot that lost his pod, it isn't the newb that died, it's one of his corp members that is whining, not because he died, but because he then had to answer him and help him.
The new pilot will take this as a lesson learned, wtf is the op's excuse?

This game is about taking risks, when I just started one or two of the first level missions tried to send me to low sec space. I refused one, tried another, got taken down to structure and lost my first frig! Taught me a lesson, practice until u are comfortable with either your ship, level and sec then u might be ready to move on to something more challenging.
Its a hard lesson but unless u are prepared to lose sometimes u wont get the best out of this game.
Teach your peeps to enjoy the risks and they will enjoy the game, either that or stick to mining in 1.0 space. Good Hunting

Yay for alt flaming.....
I say anything that forces people into low-sec is good. Doesn't matter what level. The sooner people learn they're going to lose ships....lots of ships...the less we'll get people screaming "ALL PvP 'R GR33FERS BANHAMMER XPLOIT!!!!!!!!!!!111111111111!!!". The more CCP uses modules to resolve balance issues instead of systemwide rules, the more control CCP will have over how EVE works. CCP, please keep this in mind before swinging the nerfbat. |

I don't belive the op was actualy saying omg greifers, it's more the point that such low level agents used by new unexperienced players send you into areas that are very dangerious, on principle that shouldn't realy be the case.
I well understand the views of the more expierenced players in this thread, giving their viewpoint with greater hindsight on the situation of 'dangerous' space.
What they must ofcourse realise is that there own tenacious views on not getting such things get them down and out.. maybe isn't the view of everybody, and certainly id think fair to say a great proportion of the newer players entering eve.
Id think it's quite fair to also say that ccp are aware of that, and my fullest belief is that this will be addressed, like a good many issues.
Things like no sentry guns, weak concord, starter systems next to 0.4 systems ect....
While people like dianoblic might have overcome ccp's shortcommings in failing to protect new.. and players in general during their induction to the mmo market (they addmitted as much to that) Lots of other players simpley left eve because they were sick of it at the time.
People should realy think about that, when there calling for an all out ffa.
It's never, never going to happen.
----------- When they asked me if i knew you, id smile and say you were a friend of mine.

I can't take credit for it, I'm afraid, that has to go to BDCI, they put it on Oveurs fanfest sig
As for misery, I'm still smiling, yeah yeah yeah...

Edited by: Snake Jankins on 12/11/2005 05:19:36 I wonder what has changed. When I started this char back in April 2004, the tutorial we have now wasn't there. I had no clue about anything, even flew for the wrong agent for a few days until I got that mega transport mission with my fighter char in his rifter. And I had also no clue about how the security system works exactly.
My first agents didn't send me around in low sec. But I got the message, that it's a pvp game with pirates right on the first day. I thought that I'm really safe in 1.0 and 0.9, because Concorde protects me there, but I thought that people could even kill me in 0.7 and 0.6 and get away with it, although with a big security hit. So my understanding of the map was: Green and blue system safe, yellow = it's getting dangerous, orange and red = evil evil pirate land. That's where the outlaws live, they would try to kill me. So I watched my back when I did my first missions in 0.7 and wondered, if the 3 people in local in 0.6 (Wirdalen) would kill me. Like I said, I had no clue.
Later I understood how it works and lived for a long time in 0.2, knew who's a threat and who just passes by like the CA on their travels to empire and so everything was fine. And now I'm in 0.0.
Maybe the nice tutorials forget to teach new players that EVE is a dangerous place. They think, everyone is nice to them and that they can 'carebear' around like in an other game. And then some lvl.1 agent sends them in low sec and they get podded. Like I said, I had no tutorial, was on my own and it was quite hard to learn how the game works, but I had the paranoia about being killed by outlaws right from the beginning and that was really good. I'd say that I wish somehow that the game was really a more like that.

when i first started in eve i did my research. i knew low sec was a danger ground and i avoided it at ALL costs. including failing/rejecting agent missions. back in the day i remember accepting missions only to curse upon looking at teh map and realizing it was low sec.
then i grew some balls and it wasnt so bad hehe. my first reaction was an over reaction. but i did the research and i was prepared.
the fault is NOT CCPS FAULT. you have a warning before you can jump to low sec. you are an individual and are responsible for yourself. normally i would say "welcome to america, the land of the free" but i dont know if you live in america or not. the rest of the quoteis soemthing like where you are free to screw up.
CCP will not hold your hand and prevent you from dieing. eve is a hardcore PvP game.... or at least it started that way.
second point, as i recall a patch came through which stated missions screens would have a big blaring warning if they invovled low security travel.... is this not the case?
your friend blatanly CHOOSE to ignore the warnings, and his ACTIVE choice to continue ahead like an ostrich with its head in the sand is what killed him. DO NOT mistake this for somehow ccp being responsible for your friends stupidity. stupid people should be killed because of thier stupid actions that put them in harms way.
A people should know when they are conquered. |

Unbelievably, as someone who ends up doing the podding in a lot of these sad situations, let me say:
SIGNED
FOR THE LOVE OF GOD CCP, stop sending n00bs into low sec.
Yes, they have a warning, but in all honesty -- most of them don't *really* understand what low sec is all about. I for one, am sick of podding new players -- to the point where I've started letting them live, because I just feel TOO much the bad guy podding 4 day old players.
But, PLEASE, can't we just avoid this situation by not having any level 1 (maybe even level 1 and level 2) agents located in >=0.5 send players to, or through low-sec.

Hey, that guy was calling pirates 'chestpoppers' a few weeks ago. It kinda weirded me out a little. Like, what is a 'chestpopper'? ::fear::

if near low sec agents will send u there if near 0.0 low sec agents will send u into 0.0 as well (always check map for destination before accepting offer if u dont like it knock it back) have 10-20 agents that u can use within a 20 jump radius move around chasing the best missions
Quite often u can move low - high sec and back again with no problems use a alt scout to scout ahead
And im signing this petition to stop the carebears whining

I think it would be a pretty good thing to keep lvl 1 agents from sending people through lowsec. Just on the principal that new players would be incredibly offput by loosing that frigate that probably costs half their isk plus weapons etc. You have to remember that newb players running lvl 1 missions generally aren't making an income where they can just on a whim replace destroyed frigates. It costs them a significant portion of their isk fortunes to replace and re-equip if they aren't recieveing help.
