Sucky anime : FF unlimited, Gundam Wing, PUKE-a-mon, and those sentimental girl anime. Favourite anime : You're under arrest! (best storyline evarr imo! and babes in action of course ), Bleach, Macross (the original Japanese one, not Battletech!), Pat Labour, Ah! My Goddes, Now here and then, FLCL (damn crazy!). mediocre anime : Excel Saga (the first few episode was utterly crap! only in the middle and near the ending its getting better. But having a producer drawn in here and has the ability to pull out anything from is his Kribo hair is a plus!)
Good anime movie : Dead Leaves, Blue Submarine 6, Macross Zero series, Ghost in the Shell.
Great manga artwork by my standard : King of bandit Jing. I love the abstract universe in it. And it has western influence in it (Characters with liquor names; Kir Royal, Vodka, etc. A world that like "Wizard of OZ" and "Alice in Wonderland")

Yeah I really don't like him... he's so annoying .
I really don't like immature and/or "over-animated" characters. I wanted to rip Asuka's head off all through Evangelion, and every time Edward Elric yelled about someone calling him a "shorty," I wanted to through him through a shredder.

Macross and Battletech have little to nothing to do with each other. The creator of BT simply got his original inspiration off Japanese Mecha, after which he conceived the BT universe - that being mecha with a western approach.
Also, the animated BT series was a spin-off, not an original creation - the original BT was a boardgame/P&P RPG!

Edited by: Wild Rho on 14/11/2005 19:55:21 Personal my favourites were the old Patlabour1 & 2 movies for a whole mix of reasons. The plot was fairly intelligent and it had big badass robots in it doing some wrecking. Evangelion was very good for most of the series but always felt like it wasn't really finished and they just threw somthing together at the last minute to finish it off. Again I enjoyed the macros plus movie. No real reason why, I just liked it
EDIT: unless puke-mon and all that gob****e actually counts, that stuff makes me want to bashing my own brains in just to make it stop.
Can't really think of anything I actually hated. Some stuff I didn't enjoy but I just didn't care enough to get annoyed about it.

Not to be pedantic, but aren't fantasy stories exactly where you would find bright colors and catwomen?
Nah, I call the 'fantasy' genre an adult genre with .. well fantasy elements to it (like LOTR). What you are referring to is a kids show which per definition have unnatural and unreal elements to it.. but not something I'd like to call 'fantasy'.

Yeah I know what you mean.
There's a major difference between Harry Potter fantasy and LOTR fantasy.
I personally am a fan of what I call "logical fantasy," in which the fantasy takes the form of something logically explainable. For example, Larry Niven's "Warlock's World" (At least I think it was Niven). In the story I read, the gods have cut off the flow of mana to the world, leaving it vulnerable to being used up. A warlock comes up with an ingenious idea--he takes a spinning wheel, and applies an unbounded enchantment to it that causes the wheel to spin up. It spins faster, and faster, and faster without bound, until all the mana in the region is gone. Suddenly, all magic breaks down... - Proud member of the [23].

Edited by: Admiral Keyes on 15/11/2005 20:13:13 I am both ashamed and Insulted by the eve community that NOT ONE of you has mentions "Initial D" at all in any of your posts (that i could see).
That is my favourite anime and manga of all time. Its a show about street racing and an up and coming racing legend that drives a Toyota AE-86 Sprinter Trueno (Eight-Six or Hachi-Roku its called) and loads and loads of action in it (CGI for races, standard style for characters) its done absolutely fantastic.
Gundam series is my second best anime of all time.
As for the worst, id have to say DB/Z/GT series.

Which Gundam series?
They range from quite good to absolutely miserable.
The reason nobody has mentioned Initial D or the like is because there are a number of recent, extremely good animes that tend to push even the oldies-but-goodies off the list. - Proud member of the [23].

Initial D just reminds me of Fast and the Furious the series, but thats me.
I loathe any anime where the main character is emo,I mean hell I love Advent Children but I loathe Cloud, without Omnislash he sucks, everything about him is pathetic, I want one anime where the bad guy wins,Hellsing was close,Alucard was a mass murderer who just curtailed his blood lust due to an overwhelming sense of honor,I can respect that,my proof that he is a anti hero at best is simple watch the last episode, implament of ones enemy is not prototypicaly considered a good guy trait. ......so say I Lucian Alucard of the blood line blah blah blah blah no one really cares anymore!

Same.
In Fullmetal Alchemist, I was quite seriously rooting for Envy to win up until the end. He is simply badass. Some of the evil characters were a bit "emo", whining about how they weren't human--he wasn't. He simply stated that his purpose in his quest was not "to become human," but to cause human suffering. Truly badass, compared to the whiny main characters - Proud member of the [23].

Damn, Twelve Kingdoms never seems to get the love it deserves ... Very good series. No mecha or explosions but a very well told story.

Just wait for the Hellsing OAV this December, it's supposed to follow the manga much more closely, and that's a very good thing. It also looks quite a bit darker than the TV series.

The 12 Kingdoms. One of the few series I followed.
I like anime that really break ground. For me, Urusei Yatsura (you all remember Lum, do you?) was a classic for starting the aliens meet high school boy riot. It was the series that put Rumiko Takahashi on the map, who later made Maison Ikkoku, Ranma Nobunoichi, and Inuyasha.
A series that is rich with social commentary, poetry and metaphor, and one that remains unmatched to this very day, is the series Galaxy Express 999 and its companion show, Captain Harlock.

My favourite gundam series are mainly Wing and Seed. Seed Destiny isnt quite as good as those although i still watched it.
Well, initial D series 4 (Project D) is new and still being released, so its hardly an oldie, although series 1 is getting on a bit. Project D has taken a huge leap forward in quality since the 1st and 2nd series to make it a truly good anime. Music just gets better and better too

I've just watched initial D at my friend's comp. It's pretty sweet!
Gundam seed series becoming a trilogy.... we knew that since they leave the plot ending unfinished.
I think the anime where you can find the bad guy winning is "B A S T A R D!" or something like that
