DDoS's can attack your level 3 circuit provider(ISP) and take your servers off the net.

By your logic if hooligans kept smashing the local gym you were a member of (a stretch I know), and they had to keep closing to repair the damage, but offered free vouchers for days missed while they repaired the damage caused by some dinks, they owe it to you to magically stop the attacks from happening cause they inconvenience you. I don't think CCP as a company doesn't want to be DDoSed, nor does it want to be shutting down their servers. If you need to take a few hours away from EvE and feel the need to complain about that, you are likely just a sperglord and let's face it you are playing EvE cause there is no other game to compare to it. Your threats are idle, childish and not founded in reality go home.

If people would use Anti-virus software (mainly guilt ware) and hardware firewalls, it would make CCP's job a little easier.
Mrs Brisby Cambridge Support 1	Posted - 2013.06.12 02:50:00 - [51] - Quote my support ticket to CCP I was playing duel client, went to log in to the api site on eve-online, timed out when i hit the api link, tried 3 times, i go and type something into right client and message is sent, go to type something else and message wont leave. i suspect socket error so i hit alt crtl Q to exit out, at the same time i look over at the left client in time to see "The specified proxy or server node (909862) is dead". wtf?? ok, i close that client, reload right client and don't have any place on my launcher to enter login, its just a blank spot. after restarting launcher 4 times i get a login, enter game and i see my ship but no UI of any kind. log out, log in, same thing. ok lets take a break and grab that api key i need, i try and go to http://community.eveonline.com/support/api-key/ and end up being routed to https://community.eveonline.com/. i try this 5 or 6 times before i toss my mouse at the wall, walk over put mouse back together and grab a beer on way back to desk, restart right client, able to log in and UI loads. Go back to web page, i see i'm logged in under the main https://community.eveonline.com/ but when i use the drop down to go to the support page i load that and i'm not anymore, click the api management link, guess what, i'm logged in again...... you guys are going to own me a case of beer after tonight! heres my address, edited for forum posting I like Miller Genuine Draft in bottles ONLY

I have said this before, if you do not understand what a DDoS attack is, you shouldn't be bitching about what CCP should or should not do about it. Incredibly complex computer systems are more susceptible to attacks, and are more likely to incur the newest forms of older hacks. A DDoS attack is most likely not being initiated by members computers, so formatting your hard drive is not going to resolve any issues so far as CCP is experiencing in regards to a DDoS attack. So far as I know, the problems with DDoS attacks were already resolved. You are a little behind on that score. We are past Tranquility, I think you missed the update. Every issue cannot be solved if people are not playing, and stressing the game under normal conditions. Only so much testing can be done with a few hundred people, real testing requires thousands of normal players stressing the system in the ways they do, not in what testers believe may happen. CCP is updating us on issues, when they are not required to do so, they could simply just tell you the system is broke, you can't play, wait. They have seemingly gone out of their way to expose the issues, no matter what they might be, so that we all understand what exactly is transpiring. I think the problem is that people like yourself do not understand the incredibly complexity, and that the information given to you is ultimately lost, utterly lost, because you have no real conception of how incredibly complex the computer systems that host the proprietary game software, and the software itself, really are. Perhaps if you had even a small understanding of these facts you would feel shameful for ever using the tone you are, in posting what you have. There is no excuse for ignorance in this day and age, specially with google at your fingertips, you can simply read and educate yourself on almost any subject in a general way within minutes. I would suggest you do so, and post your apology to the CCP Dev Team accordingly. By the way Devs, most of us really appreciate the communication, and the fact that problems are being updated and fixed on almost a daily basis! Instead of waiting for a week to accumulate them all and then update. Also, an easy fix to the black screen is to simply click your star map button, then click it again and you have your regular screen back.

It has been troublesome of late, but like all things there will be some periods of difficulty and periods of smooth sailing. give yourself and eve some time and you'll see by and large it is superior to other MMOs in regard to many aspects of it. don't lose interest, eve is too full of aspects to discover, some you may never get in your lifetime of playing... ciao

These downtimes are annoying, some are over-reacting, some aren't. They aren't whining little maggots. They're paying for a service. If EVE was free, sure, they'd be whining little maggots. But they're paying good money to play. So they have the right to voice their frustration.

Every minute I don't spend in eve am spending on the net with the possibility of finding another game that takes my interest. we all pay good money to play this game, or put in the hours to pay for it with ISK. but i agree with you the server needs to be up or down, you guys should be able to track where the DDoS attacks are coming from, associate those IPs with game accounts either through direct matchup of time and IP from service provider or through your own logs of users connecting to your servers. the 50k SP for the what was it 36 hours downtime was kind of a slap in the face i'm not going to lie, fully mapped and 5s > 150k SP gone in that time. i work from home too, i expect the servers to be down during normal service for 15-30 minutes a day, these extended downtimes from attacks needs to come to an end, block connection to the IPs causing the problem, and if they cant log into eve anymore because they were DDoSing good, lottery off the BPOs and let the space get taken

What is typical is bumps and hiccups with expansions. You'll get used to it I'm sorry, but I have to call BS on part of that. I too have been in several other online games. Do you know what happens when they have unexpected problems like this that prevent players from getting in the game? They add paid game time to the players' accounts. Why? Because they like to keep their customers happy, of course! Reimbursing time like this, whether the problem is the fault of the game company or not, is simply a customer service no-brainer. Don't get me wrong; I think the devs at CCP have been doing a superb job repairing all the recent problems. But I also think that the beancounters are getting off easy by handing out skill points, which truly cost them nothing. Any other game would be reimbursing lost game time for these sort of troubles.

I was less than a month old before I went to nullsec and I have never really went back to highsec to live. Then again I am in CAS the most organized NPC corp in the game and that makes all the difference in the world.

The only way you have not experienced this is if you way under promise, by days. And in those cases it's not even worth giving any estimate. I worked for a retailer and was responsible for 167 remote locations, retail locations, all the computer systems, POS (Register Systems) that were directly linked and obtained their pricing information from the server, dynamically, so that pricing information could be updated correctly, immediately. When a system like that goes down, and it did use all proprietary software we developed in house, it was a hell of a mess. The stress is something I cannot even describe, specially during business hours. It is expected to be back up within minutes, so you tell your customers, the retail stores, that you will be up soon as possible, but they want a time, they press you for an exact time they can count on. So you guess, you make your best stab at guessing when you will have them up and running again, and that's all it is is a guess. You are trying to give them what they are crying and complaining for, and in doing so many times cannot meet the estimated time you gave. Perhaps if your experience was more service related, and not in the long drawn out process of creating software and even missing those deadlines, then maybe you would see things differently. I would prefer the DEVs giving us an estimated time, a guess, anything, than nothing at all. Silence would really bring out the trolls, at least they attempt to give us a good time they will be back up. Just because you work for a software company, don't fool yourself into believing you even for a second understand the situation for the DEVs working on a system that is running almost 24/7. You at the very least get to create software, if in fact you program, without having to cater to the whining maggots pandering for updates on a minute by minute basis.

That is what I do, I only use the launcher for updating the game, and after that I just use a shortcut pointing to the actually exe; I even used it with the old launcher, I just like that it starts faster...
