Making the transfer conditional on a "donation" doesn't seem any different to making it conditional on paying a price. Saying 'I will only transfer this character to you if you give me x isk' is functionally identical whether you label the isk transfer a purchase or a donation. You could label it a Gruffalo and it wouldn't change what it actually is - a transaction involving the trade of isk for the character. Obviously, the label thing is not something that any authority would buy in real life (you can't avoid sales tax by calling the mandatory transfer of cash a donation instead of a purchase). CCP, on the other hand, may buy it but they would be rather silly to be persuaded by this kind of rhetorical move.
Still, people basically handed him free isk, thinking that they would get something in return long before a "winner" was even announced and therefore it isn't breaking the rules. And if CCP takes action against Az because of you projecting so hard, it would be very silly of them.
My point is; people are capable of thinking for themselves (knock on wood) and if they want to support something like this with their internet spaceship money and tears, they should be allowed to do so without CCP stepping in and coddling the idiots that did.

All I saw in this thread were greedy people begging for a free character, the OP taught them a good lesson in life hopefully. I don't think CCP should reverse this, it clearly wasn't a legitimate character trade, and was quite obvious as such. Personally I enjoyed this whole thread very much and I hope CCP support this kind of entertainment too. :) |

I agree, but mention of ISK started during offhours and the OP strategically rushed things along after that point. We all know the turnaround time on moderation is pretty slow.
