The price of the ticket is $129..... covers all cost excluding travel and accomodations...you cover rooms and travel...being many will travel one way or the other and some will want ceasars palace and others motel 6, we feel its best players make there own accomodations for travel and rooms......this came after much debate from our team
As for drinking.....even though we have an afterhours party, all ages will be able to attend. Anyone underage will not be served alchohol and everyone will be ID'd upon entering the afterhours party by security.

drinking age is 21...and yes ...how ever you get here and however long you wish to stay....events days are march 15th and 16th ...16th being the big day....
remember...this event takes place 4 days before GDC in San Jose California (Game Developers Convention)....so you actually could attend both with simple planning....
maybe Ovuer or TomB would show up to.. if we coax them or Kieron enough:P
hehehe...

I'll be there, and with a big jet can of swag. But please, I'm not a celebrity. I just pass along information. You guys and gals that play EVE, you're the stars!
Going to put some glue on this topic.

even though this is done by players for players we bring serious resources to the table to pull off and event of this caliber...
the facilities for the small conference on the 16th and locking down the Rainbow Bar & Grill are no mere players throwing a party at there home...
also we plan to have ALOT of things we are giving away...
for example:
person coming from farthest away will win something VERY NICE...
most representative's from one corp will also win a prize and so on....
we have some top notch things planned...
this is a little more then some casual player gathering...
webhosting alone would pay for a year of eve...LOL
This event is for EVERYONE from all the players to all the devs and fans worldwide...taking place in the entertainment capitol of the world....
Think of this...
You and your friends and Kieron/CCP dignitaries and the Ladies of EvE all in one photo:):).....
you can cross out everyone but the ladies in the photo...unless your a lady and then you cross out the girls...

hey there are a few of us SNIGG guys that live here in Las Vegas. I for one will give a hand if you need some help. I will send you a mail in game.
After the new year the internet radio station I work at here will be having the video game show about eve-online I posted about a while ago. If you want we could even do live remotes during the day there. We have some daily shows during the week, but when they are not on we should be able to fill the empty timeslots with live remote feeds.
If its on the weekend we can broadcast nearly all day.
I was going to debute the eve talk show this month but it just wasn't looking good enough. I want the best we can put out and it wasn't quite there yet. If I half arsed it i would feel pretty bad about letting anyone see or hear it. |

I was in Vegas for an EQ Fan Faire at the Las Vegas Hilton, staying at the Stratosphere Hotel. So a little advanced review...traveller's notes in no particular order.
1. Las Vegas Hilton has a Star Trek themed attraction with gift area, exhibits, 2 rides and Quark's Bar. Not to be missed.
2. Stratosphere has a famous observation deck with an amazing view of Las Vegas. Check it out twice, once in the day, and definitely at night.
3. It's the desert. It will be hot during the day, and chilly at night. All that concrete retains heat but it can get cold.
4. Smoke is hard to avoid. Gamblers smoke. A lot.
5. Walk down the Las Vegas Strip at night, it's really quite a sight. Be sure to linger long enough to see the fountain in front of Bellagio, which is orchestrated to music and featured on many shows about LV.
6. Understand that on the Strip (anywhere else too) explicit materials advertizing various "services" will be openly displayed on racks and handed to you by small children.
7. Take a day trip to visit nearby Hoover Dam. Take the dam tour. See the dam film. Get a dam souvenir. Drive your friends nuts with jokes involving the word "dam."
8. Take in a show. The hotels feature everything from Renaissance dinner theatre (Camelot) to Blue Man Troop and Circ de Soleil.
9. Decide if you want to gamble, if so decide how much you will be gambling and stick to it. Have fun, but don't go nuts. The odds really are with the house, you will lose your money. Count on it. Decide ahead of time to have fun losing X amount of money, and be pleasantly surprised if even part of your gambling budget is left. Understand the whole city is a well-oiled machine devised specifically to separate you from your money. BE AWARE of this. There's plenty to do in Vegas besides gambling.
10. You will learn to hate this noise...CHING-CHING-CHING-CHING-CLANG-CLANG-WHOOP-WHOOP-DING-DING-DING-CHING-CHING-CHING-CHING...it greets you at the airport and will ring in your ears long after you have left.
11. There is no such thing as a free room upgrade. The check-in clerk is trained to make it sound like it won't cost extra, but he is a liar. Stick to your reservation at all costs.

Edited by: Kraven Kor on 14/12/2005 17:36:51 I'm friends with a band who I'm sure would LOVE to play there. I think a band and DJ would be awesome, give a little bit to the rockers and the ravers in the crowd.
The band is Madahoochi, and they have some Sci-Fi based stuff as well as their "techno jams" where the band segways from one of their songs into some really sweet electronica.
Ode to Tito: Words from memory and likely incorrect Scott Rockwood
Look to the sky mom to see all the rich people Floating in front of the moon Their muscles have atrophied Their bones have decalcified They're globulous masses of flesh
They'll never know rain and they'll never know snow They'll never sit in traffic on a cloudy day They'll never know summertime never know night! They'll never know you and they'll never know me We are just ants to our brothers in the sky Who once upon a time flew away to be raised in the stars
Look to the sky mom to see all the rich people Floating in front of the moon
Look out their windows and see our world As we never will see They watch it day after day as its spinning like a clock Measuring the lengths of their days A picturesque world they can never return to for fear of being crushed by the weight of our sun
If you would be at all interested in having a band play at this event, let me know and I'll see if they would be interested.

LOL they practically won't let you walk away without taking one. The one time I was there, if you try to ignore them and keep walking, they'll walk with you holding the card out and flipping it and shaking it. I wanted to punch them, and I'm not even offended by such things.

Just do as I did last weekend...I told them I met my girlfriend from one of those cards and pointed over to her. She got a kick out of it in a strange way, and the people handing out the cards just kinda looked in amazement...or confusion...depending on if they understood English or not.

For those not Vegas regulars who aren't flush with cash I'd recommend the Excalibur as an "affordable" strip hotel. I just booked there around $120 a night for this event. The other strip hotels are considerably more. You can probably get a less expensive room downtown as well but you'll have to drive.
Off strip there are the Palace Station hotels that are cheaper and a few others. Be careful searching online there are all kinds of travel agencies trying for your business. I find booking through the hotels website directly the best deal for me.
Vegas has a very good bus system especially on the strip. The run every 10 minutes and are $2 per ride (for the express). I used to go up there once a month and took buses around not bad at all. There is also a new MONORAIL system thats affordable and convienent. It connects to several hotels.
For a great breakfast I'll recommend Paris Las Vegas they have a great breakfast buffet with fresh crepes thats around $12 I think (been a year since I've been there). I also like the Luxor buffet for breakfast.
There are alot of neat things to see on the strip that are free. The fountains at Bellagio are very entertaining and go off once an hour. Down the strip is Treasure Island. They used to have a pirate show out front (with real sinking sailing ships) but they changed it into a dicier "adult" type show which is pretty good too. Like they say.... it is SIN CITY afterall and the motto of Vegas is "What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas".
If you're like me and enjoy Star Trek you have to visit the STAR TREK EXPERIENCE as well. They have a neat museum, some 3D type rides and other neat stuff. Its pricey though but fun. The Las Vegas Hilton does offer packages with room, meals and the Star Trek stuff you might check into on their website (Nemesis package I believe its called).
Thats my review and recommendation for affordable lodging, entertainment and food.

I think the museum of atomic testing is open as well, since the bombs went off about 50 miles away, always nice to see what the nukes did...
As to those advertisments, they are over priced by 3x and the girls are not as advertised, so if your inclined for that, visit one of the legal brothels 30 miles or so away..
Vegas has everything... art exhibits, strippers, beer, all good!
Cya all there..

Is it just me, or did the original post say that they would update by Christmas day? The information to register for this event would be useful so that I can book a hotel room or something ahead of time and get plane tickets now. Or did it get cancelled? So what's going on?
Thanks, WR3N

we are slated at this time to handle 500
if we see a drastic increase beyond that we WILL move to redo this event fast and get the facilities to hold that many people...
we would love to see more then 500 - due to high cost of production we take it one step at a time...
so we dare you to make us hire more staff and work twice as hard because more then 1000 showed up...
we are ready to deal with this...we just did not want to sign contracts with venues and such to a larger affect then 500 as if we do NOT make the mark we EAT alot of MONEY...
If the fans show in force...and pay ahead for over 500 we will do our best to accomodate EVERYONE PERIOD.
WE DO NOT WISH TO TURN ANYONE DOWN AND WILL MAKE EVERY LAST CONCESSION AND EFFORT TO HAVE EVERYONE MAKE THIS EVENT!

What is the $130 for.? a buffet.? why no PvP tourney.? dont get me wrong, i will be there but prolly not inside the event unless i see something in it worth the $130 to attend.. i think that $130 will be better spent at the bar drinking and having fun with the attendees after the event is over in my own personal opinion. |

The cost covers our expense to throw this event...conference room, two meals, prizes, rental of the conference room and rainbow, for the after hours party which are both CLOSED TO THE PUBLIC events until 10pm....
WE ARE NOT MAKING MUCH IF ANY PROFIT OFF THIS, IF WE WANTED PROFIT WE WOULD HAVE SOLD THIS TICKET @ 600 bills with flights and rooms and all the cost included and maximized price points and you would have payed for IT ALL and then some....
you try feeding 300 - 500 people "lunch and diner" and all thats associated with this ....not to mention the prizes are not free...we had to pay for them ALL, even the eve accounts and such...
putting 300-500 people into one room to sit down and talk about anything is 7500 square feet. ..... rent or obtaining that for free is not going to happen in las vegas...in both the conference and afterhours party facilities
sure we could just have a meet and greet at the hardrock...and let everyone just show up...in the noisy over hyped hardrock and pray we all find each other and you can figure out whos who...
but then there would be no close eve interest beyond drinking, or no food or meals, but you will pay 20 bux a pop for dinner and also the same for lunch if you were here....(if you think you eat on comps, your gonna spend 500 in gambling to get a free buffet. Many have tried that "i will play penny slots and get free booze trick, this is a myth in vegas, drink girls and meals are not free to penny and nickle slot gamblers, trust me, if you dont go ahead a tip the drink girl a few nickles and she if she keeps coming by to bring you free liquor or food)
no prizes, no ladies of eve in costume, and most of all I surely doubt the devs would really come if they were just told...."hey will you come to vegas and drink with us at the bar?"....but then you never know...
I do agree however that this is not for some....I even have close friends that play eve across the country that tell me they wont come cause they just dont see spending that kind of money to do such things as they have children and real life to spend cash on.
This event is for those whom want a little more then playing the game out of eve...the ones who see the game for more then just 15 bux a month and get out of my way.
once more...you wont be able to attend even the afterhours party unless you have a ticket....
this makes it worth the ticket...I for one would not buy a ticket to something I could goto for free either....
but then maybe your the kinda guy whom stands out side the concert and listens to the band from afar while everyone else that paid for a ticket is inside partying up close and personnel and respecting the event for what it is....and getting INTO THE BAND/EvE....i respect this seriously as everything has value, including how into eve you are.
In a nut shell although I respect your sentiments and agree its not for many (60k are not coming.. lol), we are not going to just throw away thousands of dollars to throw a party in las vegas either. What we have here cost money to pull off, regardless if some one thinks its not worth it.
I hope this helps clear up value on our part...check it...if its not a value to you we are not twisting arms to attend:):)
We just hope everyone has a good time in a semi to formal environment and come thogether to celebrate eve beyond gate ganking....
Regards, Blackhole BoB www.evegathering.com <--- this was not free either

Originally by: Wuagwan Hi all, I am for sure gonna be there

Thnx, Wuagwan Cold Fusion INC.
the base hotel is "hardrock cafe" or anything within a few blocks which is a long distinguished list...when you are considering chooseing your rooms. Remember we are NOT providing travel or rooms as so many want varied interest...some want ceasars palace and the expensive works while others want motel 6 and are car pooling to this event...logistics on rooms for vegas as well as travel would not be wise nor adventageous to YOU if we forced you into ONE package deal....this is las vegas....the cheapest to get to city, in the USA.
in about one week will will have online tickets sales and several choices of locations CLOSE TO THIS EVENT to choose from, when considering rooms, to ease travel and acommodation logistics for everyone.
We will also give everyone the adress to the comference room which will be as close to the hardrock and rainbow as possible (rainbow bar & grill is NEXT door to the hard rock hotel)
we are doing our very best to keep the event within very close proximity to all afcilites and THE STRIP
We have been and are very concerned with everyone geeting around well and haveing no nightmares finding the conference and afterhours party..
if all is well you should be able to easily access the new mono-rail going up and down the strip so to speak and all that good stuff....
VEGAS IS BIG and even the new WYnn Casino is something to see in itself...(amazing)
hope this answers your questions

I'd guesstimate the Sahara is about 3 or 4 miles away from the hard rock, but there is a monorail that can take you within about a mile or so of the HardRock if my memory serves me correctly.

Erik:
The Sahara is not super far but you have options...although the mono-rail is great it doesnt go right to the hard rock....
but it is not to far...you could grab the mono-rail and get off and walk about 5-10 minutes and be there...but you can easily catch a cab for under 10 bux, maybe 15, with tips if the sahara is your choice...
let me know if you have more questions...i hope you can make it.
we finally got our paperwork and all that stuff in order to have online sales fly...just a day or so away from live online tickets sales...(whew!)
we also have some new and exciting big news to launch with it...
our next big push to inform everyone will be grand...
including:
full event address for all facilities recommended close hotels and accomodations more prizes being added to the prize list online ticket sales map of event area and more....
stay tuned!

What are the next 3 closest casinos with rooms by the Hard Rock Casino or the Rainbow Bar? Your email confirmation is the ticket till you arrive.
The actual ticket will be given to you when you check in on the 15th or upon your arrival the 16th if you don't check in on the 15th
The ticket looks just like the picture on the STORES transaction and purchase section.
You must bring the e-mail confirmation and/or the credit card you purchased your ticket(s) with to the event to gain access along with ID.
If you have any questions please use our contact information on the website to e-mail or call us with any questions you may have.

I went to buy tickets tonight and I was expecting tickets to be between $20 and $30 each...
Uh... $130?
Are you serious?
For what it would cost me and my wife to go to this I could get 2 tickets to Cirque De Soulei and a nice dinner on the strip...
What exactly would I be getting for $260?
I was really looking forward to going to this, but that ticket price is just insane.

I could keep going on and on...
event management in las vegas is not cheap...
we dont have a WHOLE casino to get your money after you go see a show on the strip...
most shows are loss leaders or barely pay for themselves on the strip....
i welcome ANYONE to pull off what we have for less and do all we have..
Besides...I personally am not making a DIME myself off this and have HUNDREDS of hours now invested for months.
If I was out to make money I would cancel this event yesterday.

BTW very sweet news that most of the devs are coming to it.

Sorry but have to ask. What about drinks?
I think $130.00 is VERY reasonable for this type of event. 2 meals, prizes, closed party. Way cheaper then going to Iceland. Which I do want to to do, maybe I'll make the next FanFest. But since this one is only 6 hours from my house I can't pass it up.
I tip well since I know NO ONE works for free!! LOL!!11!! Just have 2% milk, real Kuala and Sky vodka on hand and I will be happy.
PS after my 10th white russian please don't let me drive back to the hotel. LOL

Bob, don't get me wrong. I was not trying to discount your efforts or put the event down in any way.
I was just saying that the cost is prohibitory to casual players/attendees. I suppose if I was a hard core EVE player, rather than a casual one, I might have a different POV.
I encourage others to attend, I am sure it will be a blast!
I just plain can't afford it... Young military family and all :)
Again, I did NOT mean to come off discounting your work or the work of others... if it came off that way I appologize.

ALOT of bikes come to and park right on the sidwalk at the front door...of the Rainbow...you are welcome to also.
Inside the Rainbow, mounted ON THE WALLS, you will see TWO custom Bikes from AMEN motorcycles.
I can count MANY nights at the Rainbow where literally 20-30 bikes lined up...MOST custom...
Rainbow is a PLACE TO BEEN SEEN in Las Vegas and currently is rated one of the top 3 clubs in Las Vegas.

I found it a pleasure to meet those of you I've heard of, and those who I haven't, although I know you now.
First respects to Bob for putting this together, and don't worry, I'll be there next year.
Thanks to the Devs, one and all, for being so gracious as to give us your time, and this wonderful game that brought us all together in the first place.
So good to see players, pirate or carebear, together without fighting, and enjoying themselves. But next time, we better keep an eye on Juba Corp's alcohol intake so as to avoid anymore - incidents.

Outstanding time there =) It was realy great putting Faces to the names. If time would of permitted, Im sure the Devs would of kept on taking questions all night long. You could really tell how dedicated they are to this game and the players. I have no doubt there efforts will keep this game going for many years to come. I cannot wait for next years event, and when that time comes, the 1st round for the Devs is on me.

EDITWell except for the guy from Juba corp but he really did that to himself.
The reports on JuBacorp employees and their alcohol intake are grossly overrated. I blame the 25 hour traveling time and 16 hours of flying in economy class seats :)
btw, our pictures are up. Pictures were made by Ryushe and myself and Ryushe just got them all crammed into the gallery thingie over here: linkage
There's a few pics missing that i made with my phone, not that good in quality but still nice, those will be added asap.
They contain pics of vegas too as we were playing tourist as well, feel free to skip ahead to the event pics.

Yeah good times by all. It was really good to meet everyone. Being in the corp I am in, I had some intersting conversations to be sure but by far the funniest was the two guys from AF that once they found out I was in SNIGG. They got this shocked look on thier faces and said, "S******dly, I dont think we are allowed to talk to you." They then walked only pausing to look over thier shoulder to I think make sure I wasnt following them. That alone was worth the trip . SNIGG-We be Pirates Disclaimer - I am Snigg's token noob. Please ignore anything I say |

I'm afraid Vegas was too far for me but it sounds like a great time was had by all. Awesome organising guys, congrats.
I'm sitting trying to think of another game developer team that would give up their time to attend a player organised game event on the otherside of the world to them.
I may be some time.

I considered attending seeing as I'm from Las Vegas (not only raised there, but drove a cab for several years!) and wouldn't have had to spend any $$ on a room or anything (I'm not in Vegas at the moment, but I coulda crashed at a friend's). However, I thought paying $129 to attend a nerd party (hey, if you play MMORPGs you're a nerd, so am I, embrace it, and thank goodness my girlfriend loves nerds LOL) was a bit steep considering I'd only paid about $55 to go to GenCon SoCal which is some 20 times the size. What did people get for the money?
(Not trying to be antagonistic, I'd really like to know)
