I was looking through the forums a bit and didn't really see anyone complaining about this. Since installing RMR my frame rate in space has dropped to 3.8fps on average! Also, after about 15 minutes of gameplay my machine grinds to a halt with no free physical memory and almost 2GB of pagefile used, and I eventually get a low virtual memory error.
My frame rate in stations stays up around 60fps, and previously in space it was well over 40fps. These problems seem fairly different from the lag others have been describing.
System specs: P4 2.6GHz 640MB RAM 30GB free hard drive space GeForce FX 5700 Ultra with 128MB
I tried the newest Nvidia drivers with no luck and reverted to back to my old ones to see if that would help. No luck. When the RMR update first came out it ran ok, but I had the more traditional lag. Now I don't lag, but the game is unplayable and after a while it crashes my PC due to the memory leak. Once the game closes out all memory usage returns to normal.

I have very low framrate too... what used to be 70fps+ in station is now 3. I seem to have the reverse of the memory leak. The game is using, at time, 40 megs while flying... my internet browser uses more.

Actually yes, I've noticed that the EVE client keeps using more and more memory... I managed to use two accounts on the same PC without problems with 512mb of RAM, then after the patch I started to notice performance degrading over time... until the system starts to page badly and then I have to restart the client.
I'm starting to wonder if the so-called lag I've been experiencing was actually my own PC trashing due to a memory leak.

Same here... had 30-60 fps, now i have 5-15... lag is terrible... game stops every few seconds even in low-populated systems... there are some other threads on this forum about such problems...
Lets hope CCP fix that soon... All what i can do atm is just sitting in station and switching skills... Entire gang of my friends were slaughtered today by the inferior enemy force just because they had jump-in lag... Hope this will be fixed soon...
I understand CCP dont have enough manpower to fix such things faster, and that they need to run server to find bugs - such things werent occuring on test server so i think it is caused by so many connections active...
You are doing great work CCP, dont be discouraged by some whiners... In couple of days we will have our EVE back running... for now what is left is sitting in station and switching skills - and chatting with other players... :)

I've seen the memory climb on one of the two acct's I'm running on my system (two seperate directories). It seems to really start climbing when I get near a warpgate and stays high never recovering. Running two clients they start about the same memory usage then after a couple hrs the first is upto almost 800mb memory usage while the other is staying under 200mb. If I didn't have 3gb of ram I'm sure I'd be choking bad but the fps is consistantly 10 lower on the one acct. I didn't have this issue before RMR and both ran about the same fps/mem.

I've not seen this 'memory leak' issue. However I did have the framerate problem.
In my case I am using Xfire in background while playing EVE.
Turning off the 'in game messaging' feature of Xfire for EVE solved my low framerate problem.
May be similar issue for others having framerate problems.

UPDATE: I reinstalled the game from the full 500+MB client download and all seems well from a frame rate perspective. I'll keep an eye out on the memory resources, but I suspect that's fixed as well.
For what its worth, I originally did an autopatch from the login screen and had to restart it many times because it kept losing connection. Perhaps something became damaged in that process.

Edited by: Red Horseman on 19/12/2005 04:33:45 I have the memory leak problem. I looked in task manager earlier and eve was using over 600 MB of memory
However, I haven't had any noticeable drop in performance, even with the mem leak. Except in laggy hub systems, of course.
Edit: I figured it might help if I shared my system specs.

I think I get this memory leak problem too. fps is bad and gets worse over time. PF usage goes up and up and up. Then PC breaks a bit.

same here.. memory leak; I'm getting -horrid- fps.. down to an average of 5-7 fps while in combat. Considering I can pull 70+ fps with max AA/ans-filtering on doom3 and Halflife2 eve shouldn't be an issue. Max fps I get is in station which maxes around 25-30fps. With my system this should -not- be an issue. I'm discontinuing to play till these issues get fixed.

I've experienced memmory leaks aswell guys. Before RMR I used to get 30-45 frames now I get 40-50 frames, so I know they tweaked it to run better but its only good for about 30mins, after that the hard drive starts to scream and the game comes to a halt, sometimes up to a minute, no ctd just frozen while the hard drive churns. Its a brand new 500mb install after patch.
I run a single account with nothing running in the backgroud, any suggestions?

Edited by: Syris Anu on 19/12/2005 17:56:09 I have reinstalled with the full RMR client. Every once in awhile I get the same symptoms described with regards to memory growing until my machine spends most of its time using the page file (can hear the hard disk grinding away) and I start getting pauses and stops in the frame rate. This happens maybe once during 8 hours or so of play and may indeed have something to do with jumping, perhaps with doing other things at the same time as the jump (just guesses here, do not have enough instances to figure out the replication path).
Therefore, I think we definitely do have a memory link under certain conditions. I have to restart to make it playable again.
Edit: Running nothing in the background, 512MB of RAM. Athlon cpu and motherboard. ATI Radeon 9500.

Yes yes and yes. Game is almost unplayable. I pulled down the map and it locked my game. A whopping 1.6gig of memory were in use . FPS down to single digits regularly. Pauses and mini-freezes all the time. Everything was fine PRE-RMR. There is an obvious issue here affecting many people. I've tried many things on my end with no effect. CCP please at least issue a statement acknowledging there is a problem somewhere.

Definitely problem with EO eating up memory. Thought it was just the recent bad lag, but when I closed the client yesterday the comp spent over a minute cleaning up. My 1MB of memory must have saved me. _________________ Do you feel blue? Remember to turn up the oxygen flow!

Usually within 15-30minutes of logging in my pc just grinds to a halt and I get massive lag/low frame rate. I suspected it was memory related but unsure what to do about it :(

Yes, I have what appears to be a memory leak, and if the client's on for a while I have experienced a freezing screen which gets progressively worse. On Sunday night the game ultimately froze completely, the system was unresponsive, and I had to unplug the PC.
Yesterday I logged on at about 12:20 and left the client running for a few hours. (I don't run any other programs in the backround, btw.) I didn't do much, rarely popping out of the station. Task manager showed usage of 167MB RAM just after I'd logged on. I rebooted at 7p.m., by which time that was up to 718MB. I presume that if it weren't for the Gig of RAM I have, the client would have fallen over by that point.
I must admit that I've never bothered checking Eve's mem use before, so can't say for sure that this increasing consumption wasn't the case pre-RMR. But I never had the problem with freezing before (or the terrible HD grinding which accompanied it), so I'd be surprised if the two weren't connected.

I also got the problem with a memory usage of 150 - 200 MB and a CPU load of 100%. If i switch the task from EVE to another Program, the CPU load is only about 10%. If i change back to EVE, CPU will be 100%. Has anyone the same CPU-Bug? I think it looks like a problem with the graphic. I've installed the newest Drivers and DirectX but the problem is still there. For me it looks like the game uses software rendering instead of Direct3D or what else.

I opened my client and didn't even leave dock because I got called away. Before I left, the client took 150Mb of memory after about 30 mins oepration. After I returned 2 hours later, it was at nearly 650Mb. Restarted - back down to 150Mb. There's definitely a memory leak somewhere!
Just upgraded the Nvidia drivers to the latest to make sure too... Sounds is also deactivated in game.

Just this morning i recieved my 3 sticks of Kingston RAM (512MB DDR400) My old sticks were ELPIDA 512MB DDR333.
Since then, i have CTD'd about every 5 minutes. I didn't have any problems at all with my old no-name sticks. Anyone have any suggestions? (other than putting my old ones in)

I have just been posting in "General" about supposed lag issues causing the game to become unplayable for me, but the symptoms others are describing here sound very familiar.
After shutting down the client, due to unrecoverable freezing, I frequently have to also restart my PC as well.
I will try downloading and installing the entire updated client instead of continuing with the patched version, and see if that helps. Thanks to whoever suggested that.

I'll reply here too, that I have the same memory leak issue, and game-freeze issue, where I'll get a 2-second "pause" in the game every so often, even inside stations. The game will start out at the high-150s for memory usage, then steadily climb. I noticed that it seems to go up more with the more systems I hop through.
This happens on both systems I run on, with widely different CPU, memory, and video configs. Both run the full client download (EVE_3796.exe).
As for the person reporting the "cpu bug" where EVE uses 100% of the CPU when it's in the foreground... that's completely normal, and not a bug at all. Almost every 3D game will grab as much CPU time as it can while it's in the foreground.
