Can't find them in The Forge ... do I have to go to 0.0 to find those, or are they already sold out in Empire ?

Hey! I changed to my main char and this bad excuse of a message board changed it back to another one I don't use? Gimme a break...

i have just found that the Ice upgrade mod appears to do nothing, i have fitted 2 to my hulk and tested with them on and off, i get the exhumer skill bonus but no cycle time reduction from the mods. I have used 2 of the ore ones and they work fine, they even show in the ore ammount on the fitted lasers info. Havn't tried them on the coveter yet as the ship was donated to a corp member.

The Mining Laser Upgrade does have an effect on strip miners. However, according to my calculations, it is impossible to fit 2 of these mods on a Covetor even with maxed Electronics and Mining Upgrades. Also, they do not lower the cycle time as the description says, they provide a bonus to mining yield.

Then your calculations are terribly wrong. Strip Miner requires 30 cpu normally. Each mod adds 10 percent to that. So you have 30 * 1.10 = 33 Assuming you have 2, that is 30 * 1.10 * 1.10 = 36.3 Times 3 lasers = 108.9 Each mod is 30 cpu = 60 + 108.9 = 168.9 cpu.
The covetor has 200 base cpu, which is more than enough to fit them. Now I haven't had a chance to test this so I could be wrong, but it makes sense to me.

Edited by: Aidan Syn on 30/12/2005 02:13:27 Roc, Sorry to say, but I think you're a bit off with your calculations...a Strip Miner on a barge takes 60 CPU. With 2 Mining Upgrades (but Mining Upgrades only at lvl 1) the Strip Miner I will take exactly 72.6 CPU each. If I am correctly understanding the bonus from the Mining Upgrade skill they lasers would be reduced to 64.5 CPU with Mining Upgrades at lvl 5, so the 3 lasers would then take up 193.5 CPU. Add 60 CPU for the 2 mining upgrade mods and you're at 253.5 which is more CPU than the barge will have even with Electronics lvl 5.

strip miner is 60 cpu, not 30.
I think these were designed to fit only 1 on a covetor, and 2 on a hulk.

Doh, I always make that mistake. Thinking it's 30. Thanks for pointing that out.

Actually, the Mining Upgrades skill reduces cpu requirements of mining upgrade modules
60 tf base cpu for strip miners, + 10%^2 for 2 mods = 72.6 tf each 60 tf base cpu for mining upgrade I, -20% for L4 = 48 tf cpu
That gives you a total of 265.8 tf to fit 3 strip miners and 2 mining upgrades
I don't mine though, so don't blame me if I turn out to be wrong

Is it just me or is the CPU decrease bonus of the mining upgrades skill not working right? Like, at all. Before and after I hit level 2 with the skill, my covetor still took the same ammount of CPU. I unfitted and refitted the module to see if that would change the values and it didn't.

I have mining upgrades on lvl4 , but I can't put 2 "minig upgarade I" on my covetor. may be need more in skills in "weapon upgarades", it reduce CPU usage from launcher & turrets?

Weapon Upgrades don't affect mining lasers and, yes, you can't put 2 mining upgrade modules on Covetor, even with Mining Upgrade skill 5 - only to Hulk

Same here.
I use MDCM IIs on my mining apoc : 80 CPU base, 88 with the Mining Laser Upgrade I onlined ... I have the Mining Upgrades skill at 2, it should be 87.2 ...
I tried refitting, relogging, waiting for the downtime, nothing works, that "5% bonus reduction in cpu penalty of mining upgrades." is simply not there at the moment.

No, it's not correct, because at current it's not effecting either stat.

Well, this might be the intended purpose, but it isn't working either. The upgrade on my covetor shows 30 cpu when on the ship and when sitting on the hangar floor.
Given what I read in another thread about the ice harvester upgrade modules, clearly the math is jacked up somewhere for these. Example:
Covetor WITHOUT an upgrade and MSM 2s...each MSM 2 is 60 cpu. WITH the upgrade on, it goes up to 66 cpu per laser...this jives with the math. The upgrade takes 30 cpu. EXCEPT that if you have mining upgrades level 3, you should, at the very, VERY least, be down to 25.5 cpu on the upgrade. The confusion is in the description, as usual. The description of the skill states "5% bonus reduction in cpu penalty of mining upgrades" So using that description, lvl 3 upgrade skill should get the MSM 2 back down to where it started, at the very least.
Additionally, you have to take the module off the ship to not have the penalty attached. Taking it offline will take away your bonus, but not your penalty.

Description of skill and module is right, but skill really don't work ! Penalty from upgrade module affects mining laser, but skill don't reduce this penalty and this is very probably bug
