But since eve is most fun when playing with other people, and best way to communicate is via voice (ts/mumble/evevoice/whatever), sounds only distract. so they are turned off most of the time. All of them. For Love. For Peace. For Honor.

All but the music, but that only because I'm not given over to listening to much music. My only problem with the audio is when I am listening to my own music, and the EVE music kicks in when I pass through an acceleration gate. That is ******* annoying; I want to listen to Flash Gordon by Queen, not some random techno track, when I have acquired the penchant for mission running. The loser in any fight consols himself with a moral victory. Thus is the beginning of slave-morality. |

Sounds are an absolutely vital part of the UI, I can't imagine playing without. Decloaking sounds, locking sound (yes I have auto-targeting on for faster reaction to being targeted), shield/armor level alerts etc.
Also, the sound designers have done a very good job. Wormhole athmosphere is awesome because of the sounds <3 |

Mixed. All sounds except music are always on, no matter the situation (missions, fleet, solo pvp,...). For music, it's different depending on the situation.
- Sometimes it's off. Usually when doing fleets. - While doing missions, industry and other carebear stuff, EVE's music is usually on @ 10-15% volume. It nicely removes the silence and can be in the background at that volume even if I'm on teamspeak. - I use EVE's jukebox to play some non-eve music while doing solo pvp. I don't like having multiple applications opened at the same time and EVE's jukebox does the job pretty good. |

This topic makes me butthurt considering all the great sounds that have been removed from the game.
Pod SQUISH sound... gone.
Warp disruptor *wompwompwomp* sound... gone.
Cloak / Decloak sound... gone.
I literally hate whoever made the decision to remove those. Whatever "dev" it was that removed the pod squish sound probably never even logged into the game. |

I keep sounds on, because it is a useful tool when semi-afk or when my attention is divided: the auto-lock feature makes a noise when ever someone targets me, which is always useful to know. Likewise, the autopilot notifications are useful for me to know when my freighter pilot has reached his destination. |

EvE has sound??? The American public's reaction to the change was poor and the new cola was a major marketing failure. The subsequent reintroduction of Coke's original formula, re-branded as "Coca-Cola Classic", resulted in a significant gain in sales, leading to speculation that the introduction of the New Coke formula was just a marketing ploy |

I think the game's ambient music's great, but after a couple of years even good music can pale. I usually listen to Cryosleep or Bluemars or DroneZone now, while playing EVE (Steve Roach's zero-beat ambient music, in particular, is incredibly deep and suitably representative of the vastness of space). Sometimes I'll fire up the music from Freelancer, or listen to other similar electronica for a change too.

UI sounds only cuz it helps to make the game more playable with as clunky, slow and laggy the UI can be.
ie. did i actually click it (activate gate or warp to for example, and well, yes I clicked it, but is the game actually acknowledging that fact), cuz i cant use my hotkeys cuz there could be a random chat window open or I might be using my push to talk or my UI might still be lagging 5 seconds after the screen loads and I can't do **** but my shields are already melted so I am spam clicking with my mouse pointer 50 times a second on stuff that I can actually do that to. Unfortunately turning on my ship mods will have to wait a second after my UI starts working cuz the last thing I want to do is turn them off again and wait for them to finish lagging after turning them off just so I can turn them back on again.
So yeah, UI sounds only. |

Wait someone actually listens to this track for anything beyond comedic value? I couldn't hear any part of it with out grinning.
And I didn't even realize that guns had sound effects... I just kind of thought it was lost in the vacuum of space....
Why aren't the turret sounds turned on by default? |

All sound on. I like torp explosions and the music is relaxing... |

I have sound on. When you are a looter for station games, its best to know when people are shooting without having to look around all the time.
When doing anything else though, sound is off. |
