this, online, please?
here's your list of features
i remember making a post not too long ago saying jokingly "CCP, break that piggy bank and buy Egosoft, before they get too big." it's still not too late.
to think we spent months debating last year, whether the player base is willing to make a sacrifice and go for a year, or more, with no content updates in exchange of having all the dev time devoted to a deep, and complete POS/outpost overhaul. and the last word was "we will leave POSes on the back burner, because of... priorities."
and here we are, a year later, no news on POSes, except some minimal changes, that change nothing. tiercide was great, but a small change. t2 changes? hardly a priority, ice? nice change, makes the game more healthy. moon goo? good.
all in all, nothing close to the monumental task of opening up W-space, SOV changes, T2 production, and later on T3 production... doesn't take a genius to see that you are running on a skeleton crew while keeping most people busy working on something else. can we see it?
please?
is it a Modular POS? can we dock in it? is it something for us industrialists? something nice for invention maybe?
it it something cool that serves no other purpose than being "cool"? because, unlike what some people think, if its not cool, then the feature is not good.
and if nothing on POSes was done, you guys do know that it wont get any easier as time goes by, right?
the nerds are restless. |

I do wonder if EVE would ever survive its jump away from its current spreadsheet like gameplay.
Would EVE ever be able to become a game where you dont need an overview to play the game?
Would people still want to play the game this way?
Either way, this does look amazing. |

Doesn't even have to be hype. It's human nature to read our own wishes into promises.
That said, there's competition on the horizon for EVE, finally, and that's a good thing |

I can think of not one game that kept to it's promise over the last 10 years when finally launched ... really not one .Your living in the fairyland of early gaming where they allways surpassed their promises .
Best thing is to see it as a gouvernment , lots of promises and 'some' actually get implemented while most keep floating around as soontm .

Well, i guess it's the carebear version, where only NPCs will be a "threat".
That won't hurt their bloated egos...
Edit: Imagine carebears mining their hearts out in this single player "sandbox" .... Hilarious! XD |

I am playing EVE litherally because the X series does not have online. Good news are that the currrent universe setting is more friendly to online than the old one. Bad news is that Egosoft is a diminutive company (30-some workers), X-Rebirth has taken them 7 years in the making and they've made a potentially dangerous decission by making Rebirth a single ship game whereas 62% the player base prefers to fly mutliple ships. The Greater Fool Bar is now open for business, 24/7. Come and have drinks and fun somewhere between RL and New Eden! |

Well, according to Malcanis, CCP does have a plan for EVE. I am taking that as in: "we are at the end of the post-incarna plan and just look at what it has delivered".
My pet fear is that they've reached a complexity peak and can't make the game any more complex without inacceptable risk of breaking it. And rather than move 90-¦ from "core" gameplay and expand the gameplay space, they've aligned themselves to "core" gameplay literally to death. The Greater Fool Bar is now open for business, 24/7. There are a LOT of space games up and coming that look set to overshadow EVE; Star Citizen, X Rebirth, and Limit Theory to name just a few. EVE already seems like an outdated game in a lot of respects. |

Don't get me wrong, it looks great, but no multi-player means I won't be playing it and I know a lot of people the same.
Star Citizen is much closer to Eve because of it's multi-player. Multiple servers, sure, but one main server.
People like to argue that games like these won't detract from Eve at all, because they're too "carebear", but they forget that more than half of the games player-base is what they so casually refer to as carebears. "In the age of information, ignorance is a choice." |

I've played and loved every X game. The strength of Egosoft and Deep Silver is that they are a small and very dedicated team and they pretty much do what they want.
X is a very different beast to EVE and I think they're actually pretty careful to make a gorgeous, engrossing single player game with fully featured community mod support and stay away from trying to shoehorn the X Universe into an MMO.
It's been discussed many times how awesome it would be, but to make X work as an MMO, it would pretty much be a watered down version and would end up more like Freelancer.
IMO, X offers a different experience to EVE and I'm glad that they appear to be sticking to their strengths and expertise and producing a fantastic all new X game.
That said, none of the mechanics are really unique, it's more a question of granularity and complexity. I'm sure EVE would like to have a similar level of the open world Trade Fight Build Think philosophy, but I believe they do well to provide what works when you get 400,000 meta gaming min maxxers loose on it.
Still pretty excited for X Rebirth. Between this and Battlefield 4, I'm going to have to set some long skills training :) |

flakeys wrote:Why do people compare single player or semi-multiplayer to mmorpg in the first place.I never understood that.
Because they compete for the same limited resource: player time.
And then, single player games can be halted and even abandoned when RL calls, which is something likely to happen at the age of the average EVE player.
In the X-series you can stop building a 20+ elements factory complex at a moment's notice and it will still be there when you're back to the game.
Multiplayer games lack this, and in the case of EVE, everything spits on the needs of players who need casual friendly depth and complexity.
Don't know how good will be or will perform X-Rebirth, but we're in 2013 and EVE is gonna face serious competence for the first time in 7 years. And that competence is aimed straight at the bulk of the playerbase, the ones who pay the bills albeit EVE is not their game. The Greater Fool Bar is now open for business, 24/7. True, I like pretty graphics. This does look good and it clearly lays out a grand vision for their game. I'm not comparing this with EVE as EVE is a very different beast, MMO and all. CCP have toyed with this type of vision in the past but it now seems to be a vision for games other than EVE, i.e. Dust etc. Sadly EVE is being communicated as a safely contained fleet game with a hisec starter path, a sideline of exploration, legacy mechanics of manufacturing and trading (although they tried to kill some of that with the NEX). I'd like to hear about ideas such as harvesting implants from corpses, avatar infiltration of ancient relics and off-grid agents who you have to meet in person. I'm hoping we get more in the Winter expansion to open EVE up again. I believe we find out more on the 21st of August. Fingers crossed. |

New X looks great but i don't see any game threatening Eve's status anytime soon. Not even Star Citizen as it's not really a proper mmo. This sucks because i think CCP really needs a few kicks in their butts from competition for a wake up call. |
