I am very happy to announce that tonight EVE-Poker.com is launched.
If you like poker, and need something to do on that 22 jump long trade route, or are you bored to hell while mining, go to www.eve-poker.com from the ingame browser in EVE, and claim your welcome gift.
I hope you will all enjoy the game as much as I know I will myself.
Any comments are most welcome, both ingame and in this thread.
Visit the site, and try out the game for free or read more about it and how it works.

Just been testing it out with the free isk, all seemed well at first...however it seems that its not paying out wins now. Had a pair, two pairs and a straight and none of them registered.
Might need to get that fixed.....

I am pretty sure you missed that the winnings was actually added to your balance the instant you got the winning hand.
If you have 10.000 ISK and bet 100 ISK and get Jacks or better, you win 1:1 - that means that you will still have 10.000 ISK when the game ends. If you get 2 pairs, you win 2:1, and you will have 10.100 ISK at the end of the game.
If you do not pay attention to how much you balance is before you start a game, you may not notice that your winnings are added to your balance when you win. Maybe this should be more clear.
But let me look into it.. I have no record of Goldar playing, so I need to know what char you played with.

During the maintance today I will add a page where you can see your last 50 played games. This should clear up any confusion about if a winning hand has been registered or not.
After 12.00 today, go to "Your account" and click "My Hands" in the bottom of the page.

Perhaps you should think about adding login. Or at least make an option on the profile to force logins. I guess i don't have to tell you how easy it is to spoof the IGB headers.

You need to do more than just identify your browser as the ingame browser in EVE. You would need knowledge about what infomation the system needs to identify the player etc..
I do agree though. The system are not bulletproof. I will add an option to set a password, and advise people to set one, when they make their first real deposit.

I think I will have to stay away (I am not alowed to bet according to the woman sitting next to me )
I might try it later though when she is not here... ------------------------------------------- Should you disagree with me, well I guess that is because I disagree with you. If you have a problem with that please feel free not to tell me. |

Feel free to deposit a some more. If you bet high, your 10.000 ISK you get as a welcome gift may be gone fast.
So far, the player that made the best profit has more than 4 times the size of the welcome gift.
By the way - the site has been under down for 6 hours now. I have added an option to set a password, and a page where you can see your last 50 hands. The site is up and running again now.

That's pretty good, considering you started with 10,000 ISK.
I dont think it would be possible to make a multiplayer poker-game run in the ingame browser. Hosting a private game on a real life poker room, and make someone take care of the entry fee (isk) would be a better idea.

Valid point here. The ingame browser has its limitations..
But maybe some other variations of poker...
Texas Hold'em: Have 3 nonplayer (bots) and just the user play against them, and have him able to fold if its a bad hand, etc etc. __________

Well.. I have thought about that. I think BlackJack would be better for that. In BJ the dealer has to go <17 and stand >=17.
If I could script a texas hold'em bot that could beat real life players, I wouldn't be doing it for EVE, I would be doing it on the real lige poker sites --------------------------------------- Play poker at EVE-Poker! Go to eve-poker.com and claim your 10,000 ISK welcome gift.

This is great . Couple of suggestions follows:
1) slightly bigger cards 2) remove that green background 3) write your own random generator*
* I think this uses same random generator with T2 bpo lottery as I lost all my money.

1) What resolution are you running? Im running 1280*1024 myself, and I wouldn't want the cards to be bigger. 2) That would ruin the spirit you only find around a poker table :) an option to turn it off maybe.. I'll think about it 3) I did. As most random generators uses current time as a seed to make a random number, I wrote my own to make it even better.
Thanks for your suggestions.
About loosing all your money; Statistically you wont win money in the long run. I am using very much the same payoffs as real Jacks or Better Video Poker. This means that the payout rate is just about 95%. For every 1,000,000 ISK you bet you will statistically win back 950,000 ISK.
Some people win less than 95% back and some people win more.
I am sorry we cant all win, but when everything is running smooth and I have confidence that EVE-Poker have black numbers on the bottom line, I will start comming up with special events and competitions to get some of the ISK people have spent back into the players wallet.

This is great for the first few rounds, but then it gets boring. This is a fantastic idea though and I would definitly do it if there was some thinking involved. For instance, have a randomly generated dealer hand, something I have to beat, not just Jack or better, etc. And then let me place an addition bet once I see my cards. If there was some thinking, now that would be fun.
I applaud you for the idea though, this has real potential.

One question... Writing really good random number generators is a bit of an art. What type of RNG are you using?

I will consider that. I was thinking maybe to make a blackjack game later, but this could work too..
Basicly this is just a slot machine with Video Poker. Slot macines do get boring, true.. --------------------------------------- Play poker at EVE-Poker! Go to eve-poker.com and claim your 10,000 ISK welcome gift.

I still use the randomize features supplied by asp, but I just made a better seed. --------------------------------------- Play poker at EVE-Poker! Go to eve-poker.com and claim your 10,000 ISK welcome gift.

You could take a look at Mersenne Twister for example, it's a very good random generator, used quite a lot for monte carlo methods and sometime encryption. As it's coded in C, you might probably be able to port it to ASP with not much troubles.
I don't know about the random feature in ASP, but I don't think it's much better than the classic rand() or srand() in C, eg. really not very good statisticaly speaking.

MT's main thing is in being faaast, not for encryption.

Been playing the game a little bit and I might suggest for jacks or better a 1.5:1 payout. May keep people playing longer when they earn a little back and don't just break even.

There is just one problem with that. Raising the payoff on Jacks or Better from 1:1 to 1.5:1 will also raise the estimated total payout from about 95% to over 100%. That's something I cannot afford :)
