yeah yeah, i can hear it already, "they should concentrate only on eve" .....that aside seeing what they DO accomplish with this title and the fact that their entire approach to the genre of mmog is so damn refreshing and unique, me personally Id buy it before reading the advertisement. heh. whataya all think?

CCP reassembles too much of an indie-developer to hire enough people for 2 games. If they cancel Eve, Im pretty sure they'll form the company under a new name as well. The name CCP will always be associated solely with Eve.

They'll have to eventually, if they want to continue to develop as a company when the growth of EVE inevitably slows down and reverses at some point..

Of course.
I wouldn't believe CCP were so naieve as to think they'd get it right in the first attempt.
They've got a company floated, not just a game running. I'd say that if anything is more important then the game to them, it'll be the company.
So yes, I'd fulyl expect them to develop a second game. But, they need to capitalise on Ev maximally before starting development of a new game of course. They are new to the industry, and getting alot of financial backing is always preferable over a little, idealists or not. I'd say they'll wait for Eve to reach a definitive peak of success and then capitalise on their established name in the industry to get backing for a new endeavour.
At least, that sounds logical to me I of course have not a shred of experience in these matters in reality. _______________________________________________

They are developing a version of Eve for use in China.
I would also guess their expertise in developing a huge single shard game such as Eve may well catch the eye of other larger games companies.
My fear is that they get made an offer they can't refuse by the like of SOE or EA to either sell the game or more likly to sell/licence the technology that make's Eve unique.
However on meeting with many of the Dev's and "owners" of Eve at the first fanfest, its obvious they love Eve. My guess is they will keep going for another 4-5 years and sell up and go retire on the huge sums of money they will make, and who can blame them. For many this game has been their life for over 5 or in some cases 10 years. They will have earned their rewards by 2010.

EVE is doing so well, they could easily tack on another project, I'm sure it would be costly though so if another didn't do so well it would harm eve. So I dout they would really start another one till eve starts slowing down some which hopefuly isn't for a long time.

EvE WILL die at some point, so they will prolly do by that time.. Untill then they will give 100% to EvE :) ___________________________________________________

I think there could be other games set in the Eve universe, I mean in Eve online we only get to explore a tiny part of the world since we can't get out of our ships...

After every MMO out there jumps onto the death penalty band wagon CCP will develop Eve: The First Genesis. A game without escape pods and with permadeath set in the eve universe a few hundred years ago -------------

If CCP ever closes EVE I would love it if they at least allow us access to the server-side files. The EVE client already has the capability to act as a server for incoming clients but the python scripts are missing (of course).
I refuse to see EVE die, even if it means playing it solo or with a group of friends. --------------

Yuck. Playing eve solo would be like necrophelia.
I want to see
a> a Space-flight-sim based on eve, ala Starshatter, or maybe a 4x strategy game.
b> A FPS game based on eve +++
It's called "low security space" for a reason. |

Yes. See how Blizzard did with WarCraft: Orcs vs Humans, then to WoW. CCP made EvE, now it is only logical to go to EvECraft: Empires vs Jovians.
You can think Jovians as an alien race, forgotten human race, maybe? Alien, they are. Now, all Empire must fight their invasion. Good storyline,

At the risk of being utterly wrong and foolish, I'd guess that CCP's second title would not be based on the Eve fiction at all.
Hell, it could be fantasy based for all we know. It is after all a more popular setting...
Why the assumption that Eve will naturally develop into Eve II. Most MMO sequels fail after all.
I'd personally love to see CCP do something new. A setting and fiction that is totally different. While fantasy and sf settings make for easier creation of game fiction, other settings can make for an interesting challenge, and a novelty factor other titles wouldn't have. _______________________________________________

They need to be careful about the fantasy theme. Anyone remember Total Annihilation and its woeful fantasy-themed sequel, Kingdoms was it? That thing killed CaveDog.

There are a lot of things I'm sure CCP would love to change about how Eve works on the fundamental level...but if they did, they would be pulling an SOE on the customer base.
So I would say Eve II is likely.
