5 Heavy Blasters (taking advantage of the ship bonus)
MWD/Webber/Scram (strengthx2)
Plate (Whatever fits) Mag Stab 2 Hardners or 2 Energized Plates (with Armour compensation skills to lvl4/5) Armour Repper (whatever fits, but medium is gonna be preferable)
Light and/or Medium Drones (Get the new drone skills for navigation, durability and sharp-shooting, but more importantly - drone interfacing for 20% more damage per lvl)
That's a fairy common PvP setup, using the ship bonus to it's intended effect. Things to watch out for are T2 ships like Interceptors and Assault Frigates as they are tough to trap and hit due to sig radius etc.
5 Railguns (bigger the better, but 200m should fit)
AB/Webber/Tracking Comp
Plate (bigger is better) Medium Armour repper Tracking enhancer/sensor booster 2 Mag Stabs
Medium/light drones
This is a general sniper-rax for deadspace missions and 'plexs. Boring to use, but the range is v.good, with the right ammo and can hold up, due to drones. Although the Thorax is primarily a blaster cruiser, this works. Alternate drones for npc type. Get the lvl2 gunnery skills upto lvl4-5 also, like sharpshooter, controlled burst, rapid firing, surgical strike etc. These will make your guns much more effective. Hull upgrades lvl5 is a must for those T2 armour mods, well worth the training.
Regards,
AK.

I'd have the MWD on there if i were you, the ship has a bonus for it :)
Also, i dont see why a thorax would need a webber for cruiser v cruiser combat, with a mwd you can keep range np... >.>

Alright i used a quite gd setup........ worked well for me, could solo 0.0 and clocked up plenty of PVP kills
HIGH 2*Limited Ion blasters (Med) 2*Anode Neutron Blasters (Small) 1*Named Med Nos
MEDIUM 10MN AB (Couldn't fit a MWD due to power grid :( ) Statis Web Warp Scrambler
LOW MED Armour REP 2*Nano Adaptive Membrane 800MM armour MagStab
I wana try changing 800MM for 1600MM and 4*tech 2 small neutron. But i has a question, Why then fit a Statis Web if youve got small gunz fitted?

Here's my setup for a non-stop PvE (.2 sec stat or so) Thorax.
4 Heavy Ion 1 Med Nos
Webby AB II Third slot for whatever =P I use a hardener usually since my grids are virtually maxed.
Med Repair 2 hardeners (1 for each type of dmg your NPCs do) 2 Power Relays
I can usually keep going with little or no repair time. This setup leaves you vulnerable to PvP/Real Pirates tho.
There ya go!
Those who are truly wise seldom speak. Those who often speak are seldom wise. There I go, talkin again! ^^

Originally by: Dutch Mill Been a while since I flew one.. But a guaranteed succes is this:
5 Tech II small Neutrons 10MWD, Webber and scrambler 1600mm plating, hardeners, repair unit. and ofcourse some drones.
Works great.. and if you guys need CPU and powergrid upgrades to fit it all.. then dont fly it.!
cheers.
I think the viability of this went out with the drone bay nerf.
But whatever. You'll kill your fair share of newbs with it and perhaps an overconfident average to good pvper as well.

For PvE:
4 x 150mm compressed med nos
AB 2 x Cap rechargers
3 x membranes 1600mm crystallized (tungsten is way overpriced for +200 hp) med rep
Newbie, so no skills for t2 yet. 5000+ HP, only trouble I've had was Human Cattle 5/5 (ganked by 12 Caldari frigates and a Moa, had to warp out twice before changing my tactics... frigates first!).
Never lost a ship.

try this: highs: 3 med neutron, 2 light meds: mwd, web, cap recharger lows: med repper, 2 nano adaptive, 1 damage mod, cap relay
5 med drones
works with t2/named or standard rather well. can also fiddle to work with cap injectors (replace cap mods for 2 small rep, and med cap inject)

Edited by: Laslow on 16/02/2006 00:27:22 This is my rax setup which with a small amendment can be used for NPC, missions or PvP.
Hi 4x Modal Ion Particle Acceleration I 1x Medium 'Ghoul' Energy Siphon I
Medium 1x Y-T8 Overcharged Hydrocarbon I Microwarpdrive 1x X5 Prototype I Engine Enervator 1x Eutectic I Capacitor Charge Array
Low 1x Medium Armor Repairer II 2x Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane II 1x Capacitor Power Relay I 1x Power Diagnostic System II
5x Hammerhead Medium Drones
I use this set up for NPC ratting in 0.1+ if you want to run missions then swap the MWD for an AB II and it will cope with level 3 missions. If you want PvP then change the cap recharger for a warp jammer.
The whole idea behind the thorax is get in fast and deal out as much damage as you can.(kill or be killed) It's weakness is cap hence why I have gone for a passive armor setup. (75% EM, 45% explosive and 60% kinetic and thermal resistances) With the NOS running I can run the armor rep constantly.
If you like to snipe or run as soon as your shields are gone then the rax is not the ship for you.

Medium or Small sized?

Are you saying that you can do lvl3's in a Rax? o_0

Well, going back to the OP, I'd just like to say....stop!
There's no shame in this, but the Thorax needs decent support skills to fly. You can be pretty good in a Vexor with just nos/drone skills. Thorax is quite hard to fit, and I wouldn't touch it without Engineering/Electronics V.

And yes you can do level 3 missions in a rax - on some you have to warp out recharge then warp back, but it is do-able and much more fun than using a BC or BS.

Blaster Rax Hi - 4x light neutron blaster I's 1x Med Nos. Mid - 1x 10mn MWD 1x Webber 1x Disruptor. Low - 1x Small t2 armor rep 1x RCU 1x 1600mm rolled tungsten Plate 1x 800mm crystal plate 1x WCS.
10 - Hobgoblins.
With 7150 HP armor you can take alot of punishment! The WCS is there incase a BS gets on top of you kill the tacklers and warp out to rep

Edited by: Drakhis on 17/02/2006 11:16:11 Im not a huge user of Gallante ships but i did throw somthing together in Quickfit.. it is VERY skill heavy minimal of adv weapon upgrades 4 and uber ass drone skills goes down like this
Hi 5x Heavy Electron Blaster II (i know your chuckling now but just you wait and see)
Mid 1x 10mn MWD II 1x 7500m Warp Scram 1x Medium Cap injector (800 boost charge)
Lo 2x Magstabs 1x 400mm Rolled Tungsten or Steel II 1x Med armor rep I (you would need adv weapon upgrades 5 to fit a tech 2) 1x Energized Adaptive nano membrane
Ends up about 30% explo resists with all the armor resist skills up and about 50% to thermal and kinetic and a decently high EM (about 70%ish) you can load out 2k AM ammo in it with 1 boost charge in the cap booster and 4 in cargo (ive personally never used cap boosters not sure if the boost charges are single use? but lets give me the benefit of the doubt and say they are) you can almost TOTALLY replentish the Rax's capacitor 5 times over again.. and at optimal the electrons hit hella fast for decent hits (like um 1.5 refire rate with 100+ hits) Drones should include a heavy web drone and as many light scouts as possible. witht he heavy web going on anything smaller than a cruiser and the light drones eating at it and you having a (decent) chance of hitting it due to its slow speed should be a decent setup... ill have to trian up to gallante cruisers on my guy to do it (currently i only flie caldari any minmitar ships) :( go ahead and laugh or w/e if you gallante pilots think its ****e im a shield tanker at heart tbh
The ability to perceive or think differently is more important than the knowledge gained. |

NoXii, Is this a PvP setup? If so I'd look at some of the other setups in this thread m8, no scram and your enemy runs away, also no Exp resist and a good Ruppie pilot with NOS, 220's and fusion is gonna spank you.

How on earth will you have an easier time killing inties, npc or no, with non-rail rax instead of a Vexor?
Are you carrying just small drones and spares in your 50m3 rax drone bay?
Wait a minute.. you loaded your vexor with 3x heavy drones didn't you?

I use,
5 x heavy ion Blasters
1 x web 1 x 10mn MWD 1 x 7.5 km scram
1 x MAR 3 x specific passive energised hardners 1 x mag field stab.
Gives all resists of about 50-60, and with drones has a dps of just under 250 with including drones and skills. Normaly I use best named mwd, MAR, webber and scranbler. As well as a tech 2 damage mod.
I known its not the best pvp setup, but as a pirate I want speed to get on top of my client before they wrap out, a plate would cause me problems with this.
Also, the real thinking behind this setup to try and get away from the mentality of,
I'm fiting a ship, better put a Nos and plate on it!
Flame away.

You are quite right, 5 Heavy Neutrons do not fit. Fit 5 Heavies, but do not try and fit Neutrons - it can't be done without sacrificing other slots... Regards,

PvP Setup
Highs: 5 x Heavy Electrons(Antimatter)
Meds: 1 x 10 MN MWD 1 x Webber(A good webber really helps a rax out ) 1 x 7.5km Scrambler
Lows 1 x Med armour rep 1 x 800mm plate 3 x Magstabs
5 x Valkyries
I found this to be a solid setup. Very deadly against other cruisers and bc's. Be sure not to engage a ship that is likely to have a nos setup from too far away though, otherwise your likely to run out of cap.

My Rax setup is still a work in progress but i think it works quite well.
3x med neutron blasters , 1 med nos, 1 small nos 1x 10mn mwd, 1x webber,1x scrambler 1x small t2 armor rep, 3x active hardners, 1 cap power relay
my next step will be to replace the active hardners with passive... and perpaps try to get a med armor rep in it again. works great... have taken machariel(800k) npc with a friend with a poorer skills needed setup.

Check it
high slots 3x light neuts tII 2x heavy modal ions
y-t8 overcharged mwd web scram/or 20km jam if soloing
lows:
dual small reps TII 2dmg mods or two stabs or reven two hardners (use your imagination) plus 1600mm plate (titanium works best being the cheapest with the most arm tungsten cost is half of the price of your rax)
