There are a lot of excelent classic games out there which are extremely fun to play but have outdated graphics. So, which games would you like to see re-launched with better graphics?
Mine: Sim City 2000 (the best version by far) Wing Commander: Privateer (or single player Eve if you want) M.A.X. (one of the best strategy games I've played) UFO-Enemy Unknown (who didn't love this game?)

Sim City 2000 was fun.. it gets my vote Wing Commander:Privateer + Wing Commander 1+2 M.A.X. Didn't play that one UFO-Enemy Unknown Heck yes, the first and the best of the series.
Adds: Master of Magic Birth of the Federation

In line with the Space Quests then I wouldn't mind seeing the old Kings and Police Quests too, along with the classic Liesure Suit Larry games. Although for the text based ones an increased vocabulary would go down nicly along with new graphics. Dunno how many hours I've spent trying to figure out the correct word to open a "box" or whatever

Hexen, without a doubt. The gothic feel and the background music really made that game come alive for me.
Also, as others have said, Master of Orion 2.
Lastly, Master of Magic, another turn-based strategy game by the same people who did Master of Orion, but fantasy-based. -Wrayeth

The Freespace2 sourcecode has been released, check out This page for Freespace with graphics capable of taxing even the most capable of computers.
For those of you who never played the game, Freespace2 is now abandonware and can therefore be played for zero cost.

Xcom UFO Defese, i have some ideas other the graphics for a remake as well. pretty much just limited to more terran weapons and more varity to the cities. when aliens terrorize New York you would land in a city not the little hick towns from the oringnal hehe.

Yeah X-Com UFO Defense rocked... To be honest, the only improvement I would really like would be just a clearer picture of everything (to fit the big monitors and higher resolutions nicely), but still with that cartooney/manga/80's game look. I think that's one of the things that today's games are doing wrong: trying to make it look real (and failing all too often).
But after reading this, yeah, it kinda sucked that New York looked like a 50 people village (and almost never found aliens on the top floors). ---------- Please fix the scan probes!!! (also included a guide to use them) |

delta force land warriors updated for pc, this is the best army shooting game ive ever played. the map editor was awsome, i could make my own maps and i was like freaking 10 years old or something back then. then there was that one map.. oh my god, best map ever, could snipe off in the hills so far off that you appeared as ONE pixel to your enemy, and you could try and shoot other pixels .. where wind and gravity really made an effect..
delta force land warrior.. oh yeah.. would still play it if anyone had a server up :/

QFT. They have never made a decent sequel. Imho, a few key changes would make Carmageddon great again:
- rob elements from Gran Turismo (loads of cars, real modification options. I don't want to see 3 crappy bars denoting defense, offense and speed. I want to be able to attach big spiky things, rams, and big massive nitrous canisters to my car. Flamethrowers would also be acceptatble. ^_^
- put more of an emphasis on racing, get rid of earning money in-race, and the time limit (because it's way too much like a platformer)
- do away with the moronic physics. Having your front bumper, tailgate, and spoiler fall off just because you hit a shrub at 2mph is silly. It also weakens the effect of the 'real' crashes.
- make the game structure a leauge, tournament, a race across America like the film which inspired the game, ANYTHING relevant to racing. The person who came up with levels and platformer objectives for TDR2000 should have been shot.
- get rid of repairing mid race to create some suspense . Apart from designated areas or something. Keep power ups though, 'cos as you said, Granite Car is t3h pwn. =) -------------------------------------------------- Loyalty, Integrity, Honour. |

ah, that's pure nostalgia. Ever go back and play Doom? Really linear, not as scary or as immersive as it was the first time round - and because we've been spoiled since, probably never will again. Though if you're looking for a modern update of Doom that isn't Doom, maybe Serious Sam is what you're after? ;) -------------------------------------------------- Loyalty, Integrity, Honour. |

ah, that's pure nostalgia. Ever go back and play Doom? Really linear, not as scary or as immersive as it was the first time round - and because we've been spoiled since, probably never will again. Though if you're looking for a modern update of Doom that isn't Doom, maybe Serious Sam is what you're after? ;)
What I miss about Doom I is the feeling of the size of the place. Remember those huge open spaces? Doom III was the exact oposite, all about claustraphobia, and the same can be said of sooo many modern FPS's

Transport Tycoon was the best business sim I've played. Twas a pain having to manually renew the tracks when monorails and magleves were invented tho. If they ever do a retake on that I'd realy like an option to automatically renew the lines. Nostalgia 4tw!

Alien Legacy (quite an unknown game but by far the best exploration/storyline thing going on)
You are the captain of a colonyship send from earth. Your sistership should have already arrived at the new solarsystem but when you arrive you find nothing but ruins. Now it is up to you to find out what happened, build colonies , reseach new technologies, fight whatever enemies you encounter and make sure you stay alive.

Total Annihilation. Still the best RTS out there, I don't care what Blizzard tries to sell you.
I never played Masters of Orion, but have always wanted a Masters of Magic remake. Rome: Total War gets close to the play style but is too "real." Dark Elves ftw. --

well, you're in LUCK!
I'm with you, TA was the best RTS ever put out, next to the Homeworlds.
BUT!! They developer has moved, and is now working on a new "Total Annihation" , they no longer have the rights to the TA name and such, but check it out.

Ooooh, nice linkies. Thanks. I read about SC awhile ago, but was holding judgement until it came out. Didn't the same guy also do Dungeon Siege, which, while cool, wasn't up to all the hype?

WitchHaven. God that was an awesome game. Never saw a game like it that could match it. Maybe Hertic/Hexen but they don't have the same feel.
Heretic/Hexen Series. This series was just amazing. And turning into a chicken was hillarious.
Ultima VII By far the best of the Ultima Series, managed to get it to run on a modern system, but without the processor it was designed for the game ran out of time in about 20 minutes. (Too fast, the game time fully ellapsed and you lost) Truly an epic RPG where you had to really pay attention to everything. (Notes folder takes up an entire file cabinet drawer)
Descent/Descent 2. I never managed to beat Descent 2 now I don't have the chance to try again.
Mechwarrior 2 and Mech 2 Mercenaries, the newer Mechwarriors don't have the same epic feel. Mechwarrior 4, Mech Commander 2, Black Knight, and Mercenaries are too much like arcade games, while the story line is great I think more focus on the story line and blending Mech Commander with Mech Warrior would be superb. Die Jade Falcon Clan! DIE! (Yeah I'm a Clan Wolf, and who's idea was it to change the Mech names? Timber Wolf, Mad Dog, Summoner, Hellbringer, Marauder(What happened to this mech!) Dire Wolf, Warhawk... what idiot changed these names?)
What other classics.... Serf City! That was great fun. I think windows can actually run it I'll have to find my copy.

FF7 - i would kill for that FF Tactics - a true masterpiece K9 - not 100% sure of the name - it was a space game on the Amiga where you spread and colonized asteroids in a randomly generated universe. TA - But thats actually in the making under the guise Supreme Commander woot!!
There has been numerous Dune remakes over the years trying out the 3d aspect all have sucked miserably none come close to the original 'deathhands' ruled.
Turrican - 1 or 2 they were both fantastic

The System Shock seres are great, many people have started projects to bring them to newer engines. Though largely people focus on SS, since SS2 at least works (sometimes) on the newer operating systems.
Last one i saw mentioned was this: http://doom3.filefront.com/screenshots/News/17022/1
But there's been no news for months, so it looks like the creator gaveup/can't continue.

On amiga that was K240, i loved it ! I still have my memories from playing that ! Altough there was a later remake of that on PC called Fragile Allegiance, it wasnt that sucessfull as the older amiga classic.
so my list is
Elite 2 - Frontier K240 Powermonger Paradroid
and several others already mentioned

afaik, the three games are 'Dirge of Cerberus', a Devil May Cry style game starring Vincent, a game designed for mobile phones about the Turks pre-FF7, and the remake. Disappointing, they've been keeping us in agony for years, and this is what we get. =/

Remember we are talking about not touching the game play, just the graphics.
Dune 2, the Grand daddy of all RTS, yes we got dune2000 and Emperor but they messed with the gameplay toooooo mych imo. I for one liked being able to manufactor multiple units.
X-Wing / Tie fighter, awesome gameplay and graphics were actually good for their time, but could really really shine with todays technology. Only game on the PC I bought a joystick for.
Colonization, I cannot tell you the number of hours wasted on this game.
Syndicate, there was the sequel syndicate wars but the first one was best imo.
Ultima VII Part 1, was the best of the ultima series. Part 2 was not as good and I hated Ultima 8. After it when to 3rd person I never bothered again.
Privateer 2, again a brilliantly playable game.
Finally, probably the game that is the reason that most of us older players like eve, Elite, but as I keep saying dont mess with the gameplay just graphics. Elite 2, was ok ish, just buggy as hell, and well first encounters........
Nims 99% of the above is said in RP. The Other 1% is personal, and should be taken that way. :P

ooooo so many great games listed already.
Top of the list HAS to be 'Carrier command' I played it recently on an emulator and it's just not how I remember it :) I guess way back in the Amiga days games took a little imagination as it looks a tad dated!
Another classic is the original Syndicate, probably the first game I ever played that made me unhappy I had finished it.
And finally, to whoever mentioned Starcraft.....This game is still a classic and is still very popular, it doesn't need revamping and ruining thankyou please!

Lots of good ones in the list but have to add my own from the Atari ST/Amiga days and older :-
Starglider 1&2 (God the intro theme song 'Starglider....... from Rainbird [Echo]) Barbarian - How good would it be for the head cut off manouveur Virus - another braben hit Conqueror - based on the virus engine but with tanks Cuthbert in Space/in the Mines (Dragon32/64 anyone???) Jet Set Willy (Spectrum Days - how I miss the rubber keyboard)
I'm sure theres more but I'd run out of space eventually -------------------------------------------------
