Well either CCP got hacked again or there is a new exploit. Woke up, logged in and found that I had "Player Donated" all my ISK to someone named love555 that had only existed for one day. Filed a petiton and changed my password but since my old password was yH1,ooth odds of someone *****ing it were pretty slim.
Needless to say when I looked love555 was a day old character and CCP needs to ban the account and give me my ISK and anything that was removed from my account. Anyone else missing ISK this morning.
All I have to say is I am glad there is no abort on lab/manufacturing since that was where most of my T2 and high end BPOs were.
What a fine way to start the weekend.

Ultimate suckage Miri, not good to hear.
The problem I have with Eve's security is that if you discover someones user name there is nothing to prevent a brute force attack on the password.
I hope you get your stuff back, and if you need some cash until then, let me know. ______________________________________________

I filed one right after I changed my Password or right before.. but yeah I did.
Now I only have to wait the 2-4 days before I get the email asking if I still have this problem, the bad guy swaps the ISK around and cancels this account and I am told too bad. svetlana - "whining gets you stuff. that is why humans got to the top of the food chain and all the other animals got nerfed."

Not been hacked, got all my stuff and all my loving ISK. So u must have been very unlucky. It is malice software than can listen to ur keyboard so scan ur computer with a-virus, ad aware etc etc. Maybe u should wipe ur drive and re-install the OS.
I would however suggest a long passwd with letters and numbers, and not use family names or obvius items etc.

That is why I think Eve had to be Hacked. My account name is something made up, which I will not put here, and as I listed my password was random characters upper, lower, and special characters. So, how did they get my account name, I never give it out, and how did they brute force that password, I made it hard on purpose. That is why I think that CCP or the Eve servers got hacked. svetlana - "whining gets you stuff. that is why humans got to the top of the food chain and all the other animals got nerfed."

Ouch, I feel for you and hope CCP gets your stuff back fast.
It is however nice to see that the new factory design has made someone happy to date.
As for banning love555's account, I would bet dimonds vs coal that love555 is a char on a trial account but the only follow the money trail should work.
As far as I know there are very few ways to transfer isk or goods that does not leave a trail that CCP can follow.
Good luck getting you isk and stuff back.

Also, CCP's passwords can be quite long in length. Try using a phrase or something instead of a standard 8 character password.

I think CCP servers being hacked is unlikely, but far from impossible. It is more likely that your computer was compromised, or your details where somehow phished off you. Either way, this does need to be looked in to, and whoever did this needs to have any accounts they may have banned. ______________________________________________

I think is technically impossible to ***** ccp's userdatabase due to the network structure they use. But i might be wrong.
However the biggest change (esp with the big exploit in Windows currently) is that you got infected by somekinds of keylogger. So i would suggest you reinstall windows and get yourself a good firewall/virus-scanner. ----------------------- Nuttin ^^ |

I agree on that the server is unlike to be compromised, then loads of accounts would have been trifled with. But I feel with ur companion, some people are so rotten that they should have been fed to the wolves.
Lets hope CCP rock bottom on this asap, and make a press statement.

it wouldnt be CCP end i think u would have a trojin on youre PC have u visited an unoffical eve site or given youre password anywhere ? have u used the same password to log perhaps into a forum related to eve (unoffical fansite or the like) That could be the source - my password used for eve is not used anywhere else just for this reason there have also been emails apparently targeting those that give their main email accounts on corp forums - alliance forusm claiming to be from CCP admin (perhaps u replied to one of these ?) u need to be very careful No doubt its something at youre end and not CCP otherwise all the t2 BPOS would be in someones account and not just some lone characters ISK. ccp would have to ascertain that you didnt create a second trial account and pass the money to yourself on a different I.P. Also, the hack, I think, is not server side, but rather on your computer.

No they wouldn't. There would be no benefit to doing that whatsoever.

Yup its your PC I think.
Worth scanning it before pointing the finger elsewhere.
Also if your on a shared network, if your getting internet access via a server, someone could just be monitoring network traffic... I dont believe eve packets are encrypted and so your passwords are sent plain text over the network and internet... easy enough to sniff out given the right bit off software, and some time. Yeah, it happend to my friend too. (Scyrdein) His account was hacked and his character was deleted. So he can`t restore his account because his email was changed. It happend before new year and he still offline because his petition is still awaiting a reply from a senior GM staff.
Why it`s so easy to change a email, and there is no confirmation for it? If user changes his email, then there should be confirmation sent to his old and then to his new email. Why there is no such simple security check in eve?

Some trading might involve revealing your account name - character transfers for example. Brute forcing the password does seem a bit far-fetched though. I dunno, it all sounds a bit nasty and like it's someone you know. To find out your account name, and do whatever it takes to work out your password. Let's face it, it's not going to be a random passing hacker, is it?
Anyway, hope it gets sorted out quickly for you.

why no simple security checks on eve - well hello i mean alts - corp theifs hello they actively encourage ingame greifing - some nasty types of individuals - and some ebayers have methods of getting youre details and clearning out yore account (mostly to sell on ebay) at least the horror stories we have read here. Sorry for youre lost but always use a non core email account for anything related to eve (keep youre secure email account out of it) - never give youre email account on any forums etc (or barring that have a 2nd one for correspondance forum registration etc) never visit any unoffical sites promising eve downloads ore other benefits (no doubt some are traps) Keep youre PC secure. KIA was once the victim of such an act.
We had everything stolen, all of our cash, every asset, and my main character was pod killed without implants many times.
The GMS passed it to a their leader, who sorted it with a very swift response. All of my items were returned, and my character given back his skill points.
It is against the law for such hacking, and had CCP released the identity of the culprit to me, i would of prosecuted him to the very best of my ability and means. Unfortunately, they chose not to.

yes i do hope its resolved - as for the legal source of the hacking if u took it to law enforcement agencies and it was in a country with a internet legal treaty with iceland - then perhaps if u took it further and the culprit was also in one country where they could be prosecuted then CCP may have been forced to reveal teh identy
That said i would think if its a piece of software u have picked up on some unoffical fansite or other type of website someone has spammed in game etc then it would probably be a country where they cant be touched - i think we all have a fair idea same place macroers - ebay farmers come from and this covers up to 40-50 countries where u could make a profit from such neforius activities in which case u wouldnt stand a chance
Just hope its resolved ASAP if it is in fact a act of illegal activitiy Im a happy little camper now - CCP 4tw. |

GB, the servers are in great brittan and thus if the servers are hacked into the crime is comitted in GB.
Net law is actually rather interesting and can cause alot of odd discussions, way back when I played MUD's the USA passed a Decency act prohibiting anyone from using anything but aproved language on the net. That law only applied to US part of the internet. I ran into a rather anoying player who was griefing me and we got into a discussion, after a while he stated that he had logged the entire discussion we had had and would report me to the powers that be. I can not say how good it felt to explain to this person that I was sitting in sweden and was not bount by that law and that the MUD was also based in sweden and thus also followed swedish law, infact the only person that could get prosecuted by the US law was him.
Right on cue he told me to "**** off" and went away :)

well moving to internet law there has been some progress but most countries outside the austrialia-new zealand, japan, GB and western europe and US-canada arent really able to be chased up for any offenses committed
Why do u think after the USA most spam is routed through china (originates from US scamsters - other regions of course) and routed through china to avoid detection or legal risk.
Though now the source can be tracked in some cases but still.
U need to be paranoid about internet security also Im a happy little camper now - CCP 4tw. |
