I agree with Veggstry; there are certain characters that are too easily mistaken for certain other characters. |

CCP wanted a well known artist and celebrity to test the new font so it's approval would be well known. They got Ray Charles.

That's a load of crap. Unicode text showed up just fine in Cold War if the viewer had the Windows foreign language support installed. After RMR, unicode text still only displays if the viewer has the language support installed. All that changed in RMR is that we got a hideous font.
They didn't need to screw with the font in the first place.

Yeah, I don't understand it either. Nothing really changed with the supposed upgraded Unicode support (Except that now characters you don't have support for are blanks spaces instead of question marks or squares! WOW), so there doesn't seem to be any kind of valid reason for the new font.

I liked the font after RMR. I often use Cyrillic fonts and they were very good after RMR. After last night update, I was upset. It is bad. Not really really bad, but quite bad. In my HO put old cyryllic back. Latin, do not care much as I liked before RMR and did not have much trouble after. |

1600*1200 on an LCD monitor (Viewsonic VP201). The font got bad after RMR, and the period character apparently left in disgust. The last patch font change has earned EVE the unique place of being the only game I have which I can't actually play, mainly due to getting a migraine within roughly five minutes of logging in. I'd complain more about how utterly insane it is to provide only single font with no apparent regard for how it might appear on the different displays and resolutions found amongst players, but I need to lie down and hope the meds work. The game is quite honestly unplayable for me.

After tonight, and a migrane tablet, I feel the question is more "Do The Devs Test The New Fonts?"

I imagine a GREAT deal of alcohol, and perhaps other substances, is first consumed. Then they get around to deciding which font to choose. Of course, at this point, Mother Theresa in her final weeks would have looked like a Playmate to them. This would explain much.

They test them using hamsters.
If the hamster spins its wheel, its a bad font.
If the hamster explodes in agony, its a perfectly good font. -- Proud member of the [23].

OK. Tried this font. Set to wide, feels better than the RMR font. Any other than wide is bad (may give headache? Didnt want to test something that will make me sick). With wide settings, font looks better but certain stuffs like escrows, etc. doesnt really fit wide text well. Even option screen is a bit messed up. Oh well, better than no change at all. If we have to use this, I can tolerate this font but would be nicer if we could have Cold War font back please.
CW font - buggy chat but 7/10. RMR font - 2/10. RMR 1st patched-up font - 5/10.

I'd grown to like the former font, this new one looks like crap, why the change?

Till the following cannot be confused, it's not a good font:
VY DO0 G68B& 1.1 11 0.0 00 Il1 "'`
On the forums and in the forum edit all those characters are extremely distinct. In game each line is the same effectively.
Not to mention that to make the current font readable I need to make the font "extended", which than means it's too big for tab and column captions. :( -- Lil Miner |

Edited by: Golerre Evraun on 11/01/2006 08:31:45 I have an idea, how about a small patcher, allow players to select their own fonts and have the patcher integrate the new font into the game, i clearly remember seeing a font unpacking during the Cold war>rmr patch. ---------------------------------------- If you ain't dyin, You Ain't tryin. |

Can someone explain to me why unicode has to equal horrible? I've seen plenty of perfectly good unicode fonts in my time. I have NEVER seen the font that is in EVE (probably with good reason, i.e. It's not readable...).

Day 2. You know, I'd really love to be able to log in and play the game again. I've already spent months getting even the Advanced Learning skills trained up, and now I need resources and standings much, much more than I need a mandatory vacation. That nobody has bothered to even acknowledge this as an issue is disappointing.
Ah well. I have a WoW account, and that's the cheapest gaming entertainment I can get. EVE is quite a lot more fun, but that's not an option now. Hopefully things get fixed before the EVE account runs out. Till then, I shall ***** no more.

Edited by: Niffo on 12/01/2006 05:37:24 I would like to see a set of font sliders that increase the size instead of spacing for the different text areas in the game (such as chat window, etc). I think it would also be good to have a "bold" type option for all areas including the chat window. An option to select different fonts would also be a nice addition to the UI customization.

You can't imagine how many times I've been called Veggstry.
What about the number 8... I can't tell half of the time if it's 8, 6, 0, or 9

The fact that we have to argue about the font at all is proof that the way fonts are handled within Eve is not adequate. The font type should be selectable and the font size should have wide scalability to match different peoples preferences or disability needs.
Everyone should be able to to get what they want out of the user interface. This isn't a win or lose situation.

The font is not good. you can not see the refined minerals any more in 123.958 for isogen instead you see 123... only if you go with mouse over minerals you can see the exact amount of refined minerals. Using 17" screen in 1152x864
