As this very posting in this forum already gives away: I've resub'ed to EVE after an almost two year's break from the game. And much to my surprise, I've found out that EWA still works after these two years.
Although I've kept updating EWA's database throughout my break, development on the application itself completely stopped, both because I got tired a bit and (mainly) because without working API keys development is close to impossible.
Well, for the next few months I do have working API keys. As a result, I've just published a new version (2.1.0) of EWA. There was an (unannounced) update a couple of weeks ago, which introduced Order Alerts to EWA, but much to my dismay it didn't work properly. It took me some time to find out why it worked at one machine but not at another. I'll spare you the details ... let's just say I have experienced an ID10T problem with myself .
Back on topic - new version. This one has
- Order alerts (for real, this time, I hope)
- Most profitable items-report
- Visual indication of order status (market orders)
See the version history for details and downloads.

For those of you willing to try it out, here's a 'preview version' (if you like) of an upcoming update: EVEWalletAware_2_1_1.zip. It includes only the EXE file (named EVEWalletAware_2_1_1.exe to not interfere with your production install) and needs to be copied into EWA's program folder in order to work.
In this preview the "pretty table copy for teh intarwebs" feature is implemented in a useable fashion (I hope). Meaning - any data grid can be formatted and copied to the clipboard as either a standard HTML or a BBCode (a format, which most forum software uses/understands) table.
This might for example be useful if you run a public business and wish to publish your figures on your web presence.
The way it's meant to work:
- Open one of EWA's forms (i.e. Wallet transaction, Item details, Balance sheet)
- Set filters as needed and retrieve/display the desired figures
- Start the export by clicking menu 'Edit -> Copy to clipboard'
- Pick your preference there and click 'Copy to clipboard'
The feature itself is still not fully completed, I intend to add MediaWiki table syntax, too. But I thought I try to get a little feedback first. |

I didn't have the time to read half of this thread yet and I probably won't until later on today or tomorrow.
I would recommand downloading (and/or installing) and run the program : http://eve.basicaware.de/EVEWalletAware/download.html
and save potential wallet data deletion or other similar problem.
This in turn would avoid loosing important EVE business costs related expenses and important records of those costs. |

It seems you've downloaded only the beta version of the application itself. If you've never used EWA before, you need to grab the full installation package. Also: that beta version has made it into the official release. |

Seems that you know how to install and run this program on Windows 7.
I did download the Full Installation version 2.1.1. I didn't verify the checksum. I can make a video of the procedures to verify what may need to be fixed.
What makes it seems like if I downloaded only the beta version of the application? I have never used EWA before. (I didn't find the beta version yet.)
The first image Run-time error '91' was partly caused by the program being blocked from downloading by Windows 7. I then managed to remove that block and have the file downloaded.
However, that didn't solve the problem or the most part of the problem.
I tried to install it from an XP version although it won't work on that system properly either due to admin restrictions.
I read there is a processorArchitecture="X86" line in the exe.Manifest so I only tested the x86 version of the 3 MS files to test the component installed (on the Win7 system).
The second image is the files that were in the folder (placed by me) as I tried to run some of the suggested steps under Dependencies/Requirements.
- GÇóMDAC (Microsoft Data Access Components) 2.8. You can check your currently installed version with this tool (Component Checker) from Microsoft.
- GÇóMSXML (Microsoft XML) 6.
I now read that : Please note: these components are only required for Windows XP and earlier. Newer versions of Windows (Vista and later) already include these files as a part of the default install.
Which would mean that the previous procedure were useless on the Windows 7 system.
- NTVDM.EXE has stopped working
A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.
[Close program] -
The EVEWalletAware.exe.manifest is the text file that is suggested in the download page under EWA manifest.
UAC dialog means User Account Control. https://www.google.ca/search?q=UAC+dialog&sourceid=ie7&rls=com.microsoft:en-ca:IE-SearchBox&ie=&oe=&gws_rd=cr&ei=vOxXUuX2BKLcyQGVpYDQAw
MDAC_TYP_EXE file is a copy of the file I tried to unblock to check the windows component as mentionned in the : Dependencies/Requirements GÇóMDAC (Microsoft Data Access Components) 2.8.
That also failed although that it loaded a little black DOS box which seems to have been to try to install or extract some files before running an executable. However, this led to the NTVDM.EXE error message or interruption above.
I also read there is a Manual in *.rar archival format for which I'd have to get the program to extract from it.

Well, yes, I am preparing to file a ticket. I'll also be able to redo a video with the file download and the install on Windows 7 which works by the way.
I think I saved about 2 months of data on it, although 1 month maybe right. In any case, I would be able to download the ingame data once a month and avoid further wallet data deletion.
Wasn't the wallet data showing for more than 1 month before from EVE Online? Isn't the wallet data from last year should still be available in my characters account in EVE Online, aside for your program API data source.
I downloaded an MS Access database file. I will try to upload it to a server which can be linked here. Alternately, I could upload it to my own domain website which was paid 1 week late 2 days ago.

Whatever the EVE Online game client shows you - CCP's API only lets you retrieve API data for one month, mkay?
No headscratching needed - that's how CCP defined their API. That's the rules by which we 3rd party devs work.

Whatever the EVE Online game client shows you - CCP's API only lets you retrieve API data for one month, mkay? ok, I didn't know that. But shouldn't the ingame EVE Online game client show me more than only one month since the pilot was over a year old with older wallet data? It is possible that the API only lets me retrieve API data for one month, I am not certain of that either.
I'd really appreciate if you could confirm about the period of time which the ingame EVE Online game client does show.

Hel O'Ween wrote:And I'm not sure what you're point with that Access DB is. The point with the Access DB simply is the format that the EVE Wallet Aware program saves the data for Export. I guess data can be imported in that way although that I didn't test it yet.
I am mostly concerned about the Wallet data that was displayed in the ingame EVE Online game client. The reason for that being that there is over 3 billion missing from one of my pilot data and another few millions invested in PI costs. I can repeat it again if you forget that it is what I was asking you about.
I am not so much concerned about the EVE Wallet Aware data since as you now mentionned it only works with one month of data.

I don't know and I dopn't care, to be honest, because it has nothing to do with how much data is delivered by the API, which is - and I repeat that for the last time - one month.

It's not that I don't want to give you information - I can't! I'm only an EVE Online player just like you are one. I have no deeper knowledge about the game client than you have.
I guess the discussion is pointless. You don't seem to understand what I write. And I don't understand your ongoing posting in this thread (nor in this forum section at all), when it seems that your problem is not related to EWA, but rather with the game client. For that, Issues, Workarounds and Localization seems a more appropriate place.

Not sure what you exactly mean with "Personal Transaction Report". If you mean menu Wallet -> Wallet Transactions, then yes, there is a way: right-click on the item -> "Mark as ignored".
Please note the difference of the above vs. right-click on the item -> "Delete this transaction". The former marks the item as ignored in the database, but still leaves the record for it there. In case you want to reactivate it (for whatever purpose), check the "Show ignored". To then permanently revoke the ignore status, right-click the item -> "Mark as not ignored".
"Delete this transaction" does just that: deletes the item form the database. There's a drawback, though: this does only work if the selected transaction isn't part of the wallet transactions served from the EVE API = the transaction must be older than what the API serves for you. Otherwise the transaction is stored by EWA again, as EWA "thinks" this transaction is missing from a previous API query.
If you mean something else: please be more specific as to which report you're referring to.
I admit that perhaps not all of EWA's options do honor the "Ignore" status. I guess I need to check this. EVEWalletAware - an offline wallet manager. |

Both. It even allows for the creation of what I called "Virtual characters". (And if I'm not mistaken, EWA was the first trading app to offer such a feature.)
This lets you create a single character by combining the data of multiple (and unrelated) characters into one virtual char. All figures for that char actually happen to be the cumulated data of all combined characters. All calculations are done "on the fly", so there's no additional data which is created nor will any data of existing chars "mixed up". EVEWalletAware - an offline wallet manager. |

The database update for tomorrow's expansion Rubicon has been released, among with an new version (2.1.2) of EWA itself.
This version adds a new feature, titled "Journal balance report" (in lack of a better term). It's a combination of the traditional wallet journal and balance sheet by wallet journal windows. This should make some reporting needs easier, as it allows you to select multiple journal entry types. Just look at yourself: mneu ' Wallet -> Balance sheets -> Journal balance report'. Yeah. It's the retrieve button itself that's causing the crash. Touching the dropdown or leaving it alone seems to have no effect. |

I have the exact same problem.
Version: 2.1.3 DB version: 43
Operating System: Windows 7 SP1 Install locations: Defaults Installed as: Administrator (Right click, Run as Administrator on setup file)
Process;
- Run EVEWalletAware as Administrator from Start Menu
- First time user advice dialogue box appears, OK clicked
- Options window automatically opens, on API Key(s) tab
- I populate Account name with Trader
- I populate EVE API User ID with the random number 123 - following the manuals guideline to set this to any unique random number.
- I populate Verification code (Char) with my verification code
- I populate Key ID (Char) with my key ID
- I check the Default Account radio button
- I click on the Save button
- I switch to the Character(s) tab
- I click Retrieve character(s) from EVE API button
- A dialogue box appears called EVEWalletAware with the following contents "Run-time error '87': Application-defined or object-defined error" and only an OK button. I click OK
- EVEWalletAware closes.
The API key and Verification code are tested and working in EVEMon. I have tried using a brand new API key and verification from my second account; following the above process I get exactly the same results. |

First of all: thank you very much for your very detailed description!
Try the following:
- I click on the Save button
Insert this step:
- On the "API key(s)" tab, click on the newly created account to make sure it's selected.
Then continue with:
- I switch to the Character(s) tab
- I click Retrieve character(s) from EVE API button
I admit that the account creation/character selection process needs some love badly asap.
Besides the main window - which is more or less just an empty "frame" - the Options dialogue was the first thing I implemented. And it stayed there.
See if the above helps you getting EWA to work. I tried the account creation step earlier this week with a fresh install, when Truth first reported the issue. But I was unable to reproduce the crash, most likely because "I know the drill". I'll look into it next week (got a bad cold currently and find it hard to concentrate now ...). Nope, the key itself has nothing to do with it. I'm not doing any verification of sorts at this point, I'm just trying to grab the characters for that key, which requires no special rights.

On the chance that it's something network related, I'll see what I can do about testing this from outside of my home. I'm a little reluctant to get my hopes up that that's the case, however, since I don't seem to have API issues with other apps, like EveMon or Mentat. |

We're getting closer. Could you have a look at 'Extras->Cached XML files' if there#s any entry in there at all?
Meanwhile I'm scratching my head over the Application-defined or object-defined error. AFAIR, I don't use application-defined (making up your own error numbers) at all. And the only (programming) object involved at that point is Microsoft's MSXML component. But that's used everywhere in EWA.
Quote: On the chance that it's something network related, I'll see what I can do about testing this from outside of my home.
I agree that the network is not the problem. At least not directly. However AV software/firewall might be, preventing EWA from contacting the internet. Might be worth to give it a try and temporarily excempt EWA from the rules and see if that makes a difference. EVEWalletAware - an offline wallet manager. |

Nope, no entries cached.

I'm afraid I already thought that might be the case, and completely paused my AV suite for an attempt, to no avail.
If it helps, I think I've narrowed the errors down a bit, and can probably confirm your suspicion that
frmMainHelper:MainWalletInfoFill->87, EVEWalletAware, Application-defined or object-defined error
comes from opening the options screen itself, and
cEVEChars:GetCharsFromAPI->87, EVEWalletAware, Application-defined or object-defined error
is from clicking the Step 1 button.

Alright, I've added another round of error checking/logging. You can grab the new (test) version at the above location.
All error reports point the problem that EWA seems to be unable to download (valid) XML files.
- frmMainHelper:MainWalletInfoFill frmMain is the little account/character selection window. In th e above procedure (MainWalletInfoFill) EWA tries to grab the wallet information (wallet totals) from the API.
- cEVEChars:GetCharsFromAPI That is - as the name suggests - the point at which EWA tries to retrieve the characters for/from the provided API key.
Oh ... I'm really grateful for your patience. Not being able to reproduce a bug myself, have to rely an people like you. Thanks! EVEWalletAware - an offline wallet manager. |

Two more (admittedly desperate) suggestions/attempts:
1) Is the EVE API Server base URL in 'Options', tab 'API/Proxy server' set to https://api.eveonline.com?
2) As mentioned before, EWA doesn't seem to receive (proper) XML files, could you therefore try to install the MS Core XML services (the msxml6.msi) from http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=3988? EVEWalletAware - an offline wallet manager. |

Quote: The error log is now just multiple entries of 'cXMLCacheFile:GetXML->87, EVEWalletAware' . Event ID still 1001 ofc. And the XML cache is still empty.
And that (cXMLCacheFile:GetXML) is EWA's core procedure for handling any XML file caching. That procedure then calls cEVEApiCore.GetXML, which does the actual download if needed, i.e. no XML file of the requested type present or the cache timer has expired for the requested file.
I've uploaded another test/debug version, location remains the same. This time if an error happens, a dialogue should pop up and show the exact line in cXMLCacheFile:GetXML where the error happens. EVEWalletAware - an offline wallet manager. |

Sorry about the delay for the video production but I got more busy than expected.
I also have a few problems if not bugs or errors on my end but nothing I couldn't fix so far.
I also compare with Evepraisal - Price check Eve Online items from Cargo Scans ... That works for in case the asset input is faulty or malfunctioning. I managed to open all stations and Ctrl + A all items although that doesn't include ship cargo hold.
Some of the known errors is what seems to be a bug that cause the EWA to close. I then just restart it (EWA) and try to avoid the process causing it (to close with an error message).
What I like the most is the easy to read MS-Excel .XLS format spreadsheet. I should then eventually be able to extract data from them.
(I can also try to make some more detailed report for the bugs or errors. However, it may very well be a hardware or config issue. If the latter is the case, then I will try to include the hardware and config specs. Please be aware that it is not running from my system, and probably not running in Admin mode.) |

I always recommend jEveAssets, if you're heavy into 'Asset Management'. ty, that might be faster for me. I had to keep track of both assets and wallets journal / transactions due to PI. If I get more pod pilots to do more PI that may become even more important. There also are not High Sec POS which I am not sure about but would further add to those (production) costs.
It takes a long time to use 'Evepraisal' since every station has to be clicked. It would become impossible as the assets grow, added to the multi pod pilot factor.
Nonetheless, I needed your program for the fact that EVE does flush Wallet Transactions / Journal data periodically. (Whenever they need to try to improve or upgrade I guess...) I lost many initial costs and income which I would now be able to refer as comparison for (the) said income / costs. Your program would have, does and will save me the risk of future occurence.
(The main reason I currently use asset data is to know where to send hauler(s). I then plan to sell the extra assets with trader(s) and increase capital. There will be other uses for it in the future, such as comparing the relative values based on time and jumps per locations.) |

Hi kara,
first of all, thanks for your kind words, much appreciated.
Could you please check the application log (Extras -> Application log) see if you could spot errors that might potentially related to retrieveng the wallet journal?
The error 364 and EWA crashing is only an indirect result of missing journal entries. I'm trying to store the last position & layout of the window ... in this case a window which doesn't exist ... and obviously I also failed to add proper error handling for that case.
Quote: btw i'm ceo of the corp with full access
Unlike with the old API system, where (ingame) role also granted the right API rights, with the "new" API keys, you need to specify the rights for an API key when creating the key. If you're a CEO ingame, but the flag for (corp) journal access for this char is not set when generating the API key, the API can't retrieve journal data. Same's true the other way around: if you're not at least Junior Accountant ingame, enabling journal access in the API doesn't yield any results. EVEWalletAware - an offline wallet manager. |

API keys, you're doing it wrong.
Yes, you have to create two separate API keys for personal and corporation access. But you don't have to create two EWA accounts. Just copy and paste both keys into the appropriate fields in the EWA account screen.
As for your feature request, the wallet journal provides only two dedicated identification fields for the involved parties, which EWA palready presents as 'To' and 'From/For', both of which are already sortable (right-click on the grid -> 'Sort by ...').
If the info is hidden anywhere else (like in the field EWA currently presents as 'Misc.'), I'm afraid I can't help you at this point, as I don't do any PI and therefore have no clue how the returned data does look like. EVEWalletAware - an offline wallet manager. |

Greetings Hel.
I just came back from a long break myself and installed EWA. I am restarting my trade activities and experimented with EWA over the weekend to see if it can help me track profits.
So far it seems easy with your program. It easily helps me filter buys/sells for a particular item. I export the data to Excel and add up the total buys and total sells. I then apply sales tax (to total sells) and broker's fees (to total buys), which are percentages based on my standings, etc. Subtract the new net buy from the new net sell, and come to a net profit. Does that sound about right?
I've been out of the game for 18 months so just making sure I'm not missing anything.
I am aware that there are two columns in the Wallet window (Price and Total). I'm using Price since it's the raw figure all the way down for buys and sells, and it's easier to apply the tax/broker's rates to it.
Could you ordinarily not export this data out of your in-game wallet?
Thanks for continuing on this excellent program! +1. |

Hmm, not sure. Try opening the INI (configuration file) itself. It should be located at C:\ProgramData\EVEWalletAware\EVEWalletAware.ini.
The database itself should be located in C:\ProgramData\EVEWalletAware\DATA
In the INI, search for [Database] and check if the line Connection=Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source= ... points to the right location.

Sounds good, if you insist on detailed fee & tax amounts.
If you don't mind a "few cents", you could try EWA's fee & tax estimation. Set you skill levels in the Options -> Character tab. Then switch to the Wallet/Asstes tab and enbale both "Estimate ..." options.
EWA calculates the fees for you and ignores standing. This means that any standing to a station owner will result in a higher net profit than EWA reports.

If EWA's estimation hasn't been enabled, the Total should do, as it then is just Volume * Price.

Thanks Hel.
What's tricky about calculating profits is that you have to have an even number of sells and buys for a given item. Either you wait until all orders are complete and then calculate it, or you take the latest set of transactions and run those (like the last 3 buys and the last 3 sells).
Right now I have a problem that I'll have to figure out once I'm home, when I can run EWA again. I may not have waited long enough to import the data last night into EWA. It's showing 60 individual buys, and 60 individual sells, but 121 total transactions at the top.
Looks like one sell order had a quantity of 2 in it, so it was actually 61 sells and 60 buys. All of my orders were done last night, but it looked like it didn't pick up the last sell order when I imported the API.
I'll re-import that data into EWA again and see if it can obtain 122 total. Is there a certain amount of time I need to wait, from when I sell my last order, to when I import the data into EWA? |

That's why I decided against doing profit calculation based by actual (sell * volume) - (buy * volume) numbers. Instead EWA is based on averages. If your average sell price for a certain item is high than your average buy price, you should turn in a net profit. This ofc assumes that most of your purchases are meant to be sold again. So while you bought 100 units (item x) and only sold 75 units so far, the remaining 25 units will sell later (and profits are adjusted accordingly).
Both the Item Details view and the (relative new) Most profitable items should give you an idea of what I'm trying to explain.
If you really want to calculate your profits on a per item detail level, I damit that other trading tools will serve you better as they try to do automatically for you what you want to achieve.

There are two time factors to consider: API cache timers and the unknown (at least to me) time it takes for CCP to "shovel over" the live data from TQ to the API server(s). The former is ca. 30 min for wallet transactions. EVEWalletAware - an offline wallet manager. |

Uups, my bad. Compiled the published version with the wrong parameter, which resulted EWAAutoData to look for the INI somewhere else.
If uploaded a new verion, which identifies itself as version 1.0.25.
Don't get confused by the website identifying the version as (still) being 1.0.24. I just haven't come around of updateing the site's text yet. The published MD5 checksum also doesn't match, for obvious reasons. The MD5 for v1.0.25 is 5fa547283aadd389feb1c1bc5104d987.

Quick update notice
I just realized that with the deployment of Odyssey 1.3, the corporation information API was changed to include an additional corporation wallet division (merc wallet). This broke EWA's readout of the corporate wallet names and subsequently didn't display corpration wallet information in its main window. However, corp data was downloaded and processed.
I uploaded a quick fix (version. 2.1.5), just grab the new EXE from EWA's website. As with the previous fix, I haven't update the website itself, which still reads "version 2.1.4". Will do so if time permits, as I'm also about to prepare EWA's database update for Odyssey 1.3. EVEWalletAware - an offline wallet manager. |

Although the newly introduced 'Gecko' drone is included in CCP's latest published database dump, it's marked as 'not published' there. This results in EWA not 'seeing' the Gecko as of now, although EWA will happily process Gecko transaction. (So you're not losing sales data, in case you wondered about that)
In order to chenge the Gecko's visibility go to Extras -> Database maintenance -> SQL database query. Paste the following line in the 'Your query' field ...
Quote: UPDATE invTypes SET published = 1 WHERE typeID = 33681
... and click 'Execute query'.
This command doesn't return a visible result. In order to check if the command was executed successfully, paste this line into the 'Your query' field and click the 'Execute query' button again:
Quote: SELECT * FROM invTypes WHERE typeID = 33681
This query should return a single row with the gecko's data, where the column 'published' should now show a checked checkbox.

HI there Hel O'Ween
I was just trying out EWA after a long break from EVE.
Everything in EWA seems to be working perfectly except the Market Orders: when I try to open them then I receive the message "0 market buy orders found." (same for sell orders as well).
I checked and re-checked my API-key and it's definitely a full API and "Market Orders" are definitely available via that API-key (since they get displayed in other tools such as EVEMON).
I also checked both the cached XML for market orders as well as the access DB but both do not contain any market orders what so ever.
I also checked the other obvious things like that I actually have market orders and am using the API-key for the correct account etc...
Lastly, I read the entire documentation in the hopes that I was doing something wrong but I couldn't find anything... is there some problem with the market orders in the current version? Or is it some classical case of ID10T error of some kind?
Thanks in advance for any ideas or advice you can give me...
Also, great work on the tool! I really like it!

Hi Lianara ,
holy batman, you've already did a pretty decent analysis yourself.
One thing you didn't mention: have you checked the EWA's log (Extras -> Application log) for errors?
Also, are we talking personal or corporation market orders here? For the later, your character also needs the appropriate ingame roles. EVEWalletAware - an offline wallet manager. |

Thanks for the fast response.
First off: it's only personal market orders I'm interested in. I currently don't want to access any corp data.
All other personal data (assets, wallet transactions etc.) are working - it's literally only the market orders.
What I've tried since my last post is:
1.) create a completely new full API key, dedicated only for EWA (in case it was some problem with my old API key).
2.) clear the EWA DB ("Nuke Everything!")
2a.) this seems to be causing some problems for me. After "Nuke Everything" I restarted EWA, get the message that it's the first time I started it on this machine, click OK on the message (normally at this point the options window would appear) but I'm now getting a run time error:
EVEWalletAware
Run-time error '380':
Invalid property value
OK
3.) to resolve the above run time error I simply did a fresh install of EWA - after that I didn't get any more errors on start-up.
4.) in the options of EWA I entered my newly created full API key in the tab "API Key(s)" and marked it as default account but now if I click "Step 1: Retrieve character(s)..." on the "Character(s)" tab of the options then nothing happens. I don't get any error message but the drop-down also isn't populated with characters - so I'm stuck on this step.
Sadly I didn't see your post fast enough so I already deleted the application logs from my previous try (and my current problem doesn't seem to be creating any log entries what so ever except "0 log entries deleted (auto purge)." which doesn't seem relevant.
Please let me know if you want me to try/test something. Perhaps there are some registry entries I should delete after the deinstallation of EWA for example? Something must be different between my first installation this afternoon (where everything worked except the market orders) and my new installation this evening (where I can't even get my characters to appear in the drop-down in the options).
Oh and just to make sure it wasn't an issue with my newly created API key I also tried with my old full API key (the one I used during my first test this afternoon) but with that API key the drop-down also isn't populated with my characters.
It's all very strange...

I have a suspicion what might be the cause of the problem. Could you try out the following:
To share my suspicion with you: your vCode might contain a character which is not allowed in a URL parameter. Examples are "<", ">", "?", "&". Try testing with a very simple vCode (aka "password") like "MySimplePassword123". EVEWalletAware - an offline wallet manager. |

Hi there
I just performed the test with the URL as you suggested.
I receive the following error:
"Error message" wrote:2014-05-15 11:11:52 Invalid characterID. 2014-05-15 23:11:52
I just deleted my old full API key that I was using for EWA (and the above test) so there's no harm in sharing it with you:
The URL was: https://api.eveonline.com/char/MarketOrders.xml.aspx?keyID=3356835&vCode=dMsPuTx7m3BFYbJA8YPqqPG12Qs7bsZY13t3tud6LBO0UbLqIl5FtTfCJgrGoaTh
(obviously no longer working since that API key no longer exists)
As far as I can see there are no special characters in the vCode.
I then deleted the above API key and created a new full API and used:
"My temporary vCode for EWA-test" wrote:myPasswordWithOnlyRegularCharacters111222333
as my new vCode and now my market orders are being correctly loaded and displayed in EWA! (Woohoo!)
I'm going to delete this API key again and create a new, more secure one but I'll make sure to use only regular characters instead of the auto-generated vCode that the API key management provides.
Please let me know if you'd like me to provide you with any further data or contact me via PM or EVEMAIL if you'd like to have my API key for testing purposes or something like that.
Thanks for the support!

I believe I have found the issue:
If I create a new full API key and select "All Characters" then I don't receive any market orders. However, if I go and change it to only a specific character (my trading char in this case) then my market orders are loaded successfully.
The vCode used doesn't seem to make any difference (I just tried the above with a regular auto-generated vCode and it worked perfectly).
Hope that helps!
PS. Perhaps this issue is caused by the fact that the character name of my trading char contains an apostrophe ( ' )? Maybe this is somehow screwing up the query and if the API key is limited to only that single character then the problem doesn't occur since there is only one character to query?

This helps a lot. I've never tried to create an API key for "All characters". My guess is that in that case I need to pass an additional parameter to the API to indicate for which char the request is made. I need to do some investigation on that matter.

Nope.
First and most importantly: the API doesn't deal with char names. It solely relies on the API keys
And second: I'm fully aware of potiential problems stemming from apostrophs in names, as my family name might indicate. EVEWalletAware - an offline wallet manager. |

Hmm, strange.
I'm using Win7 64 bit myself, so that's not an issue which prevents EWA' installation/usage.
You need to run the setup with administrative proviliges, of course.
And just to make sure the previous setup wasn't broken somehow, I recreated and uploaded it again.
P.S. When downloading the blank database, if you wnat to use it with your current EWA installation, make sure you either edit the connecting string value in the INI to match the file name or rename the database included in that download from EVEWalletAwareDB.mdb to EVEWalletAware.mdb (not the missing "DB").
A standard EWA installation expects the database file to be named EVEWalletAware.mdb. While EWA's update routine uses the same blank DB provided for download, it handles the renaming thingie for you, of course. EVEWalletAware - an offline wallet manager. |

Sorry for the late reply.
The error 364 when trying to bring up the wallet journal window is caused by the fact that no wallet journal entries are present. This should ofc not happen, but that isn't the main problem you're both facing.
Is there any error entry in the log (Extras -> Application log)? If so, which one(s)?
Also, have you created an API key for a specific character or is the key in question generated with the "All chararcter" option? If the later, could you give it a try and create a key for a specific charatcer and see if the problem still manifests. EVEWalletAware - an offline wallet manager. |

EDIT #2: Found an older version off of SoftwareInformer that didn't crash while trying to run. Downloaded the latest EXE and that worked. Updated the database to Hyperion, that worked.
Now I can't load wallet journals for either personal or corporation wallets. I get a 364 error followed by a crash, and in the application error log I see this:

Hi Eric,
sorry for the late response.
Try the following steps:
- Create a new EWA account by clicking "New" and enter your API credentials. - Make sure you mark it as "Default Account", even if you only plan to use one EWA account. - Click "Save" - Select the account from the list, verify that the values are still there.
- If that's the case, switch to the "Character(s)" tab and try fetching the characters associated with your API key. - Set one character as the default character for this account (even if yur API keys is created for only one character).
I admit it's a bit awkward, but that stems back from the early API days, where the API keys weren't so granular like today.

Have you checked the application log if there's an error recorded?
Permission might be an issue, but AFAIK, EWA even refuses to start without proper permissions. You might nonetheless try running it in "Compatibility Mode".
Technical background: when I started EWA back in 2007, I decided to store stuff in All Users. Which was OK for 2000/XP, but MS has posed stricter rules with Vista and newer. Meanwhile I would store EWA's data under the current user's profile. In fact, EWA already supports this with the command line switch /CurrentUser.
*BUT* you need to shuffle the data around yourself. I've got yet to figure out a reliable way for EWA to do it by itself, so that the layman can use it.
You'll find the current data location by clicking "?" -> "Show locations". If you move the whole EVEWalletAware folder to the same location in your user profile (that is i.e. C:\Users\Your Username\AppData\Roaming\) and start EWA with that switch, it happily uses that location.

Yepp, that's the directory formerly (Windows XP and downards) was known as "All Users".

You know what irritates me to no end? That you wrote "Verification code reverts to '0'" (I take that is a zero). There's no line of code in EWA that ever fills vCode with zero, because it's not supposed to be a number, but can be any character. If it would revert to be empty, I'd grasp that. But this one ...
Out of curiosity, which program and database version are you using? Click "?" -> "About ..." to find out. If those don't equal to the versions noted in the first post of this thread, try to update both EWA and the database.

Found the issue, and its PEBKAC. However you might want to update your API input screen to match CCP's layout.
CCPs APIs are listed as: Key ID Verification Code
Your input fields are: Verification Code Key ID
Because I'm a dumbass I've been putting them around the wrong way. I guess the Key ID field is getting a string far too long and returning a null value to the field?

It's because keyID is always numeric, whereas vCode is a string.

I've published an update to EWAAutoData, the automatic data downloader for EWA.
I streamlined it a bit, i.e. it no longer reports (even wrong) wallet balances for characters that are excluded from the download. While doing so, I recognized that the code to retrieve prices from eve-marketdata.com hasn't been working for ages. Fixed that while I was there. And finally I removed the irritating screen flickering during updates, when the application was minimized to the system tray.

EWA itself does never delete any data it has retrieved from EVE's API. There's an option though (Extras - Database maintenance - Compact database) which lets the user delete older data.

Hello Hel O'Ween,
i don't know if this is the right place to ask you something, but perhaps you can help me with my problem.
Some years ago I have stopped to play EVE, now I retry it, but for play I need WalletAware/ my old database.
I have reinstalled it on my new computer. Unfortunately I have deleted WalletAware on my old computer and I have only the mdb.
I can't import it (not a valid EWA export). I have try to change the mdb with the new API etc, but that dosen't help me for an import.
Is there a way to do this? I didn't fnd a information in the manual or somewhere else.
Best regards from Cologne!

Yes, this is the right place to ask.
The short answer to your question is: yes, it is possible to reuse your old database.
The longer answer is: depending on how old your former EWA version/database is, it might need some manual work.
"Some years" sounds like we'll have some work to do. Therefore I'd suggest that you send me an eve mail with your real email address, as we most likely need to exchange information of yours that should be kept private. We would also be able to communicate in German.

Hel,
Thanks for the quick reply's everywhere. I too am experiencing the dubious wallet journal error 364. I've nuked everything and started over just to minimize human error.
Here's what I've got, and let me know if you need more info.
Ver 2.17 - DB ver 55
I don't receive any errors on the log file
My cached XML files show... Account Balance (corporation) Wallet Transaction (7 times) Market Order (corporation) Corporation information
According to your previous posts, 364 means there's no journal to show, indeed the XML cache supports that. But, is there somewhere I can check to see if it's even looking for the corp journal? I watch the status bar while updating the corp info, but, I never see it downloading the journal, only the transactions. |

Hi Twisted,
unfortunately I'Ve never been able to reproduce the 364 error. I suspect it has something to with how the API key was created (especially involving a key created for "All characters").
If you paste this ...
https://api.eveonline.com/corp/WalletJournal.xml.aspx?keyID=(your keyID)&vCode=(your vCode)&accountKey=1000
... into your browser's address bar and replace "(your keyID)" and "(your vCode)" with the keyID and vCode you've used in EWA, does the API return a page full of data? Or what's the result. FYI: the accountKey part specifies the various wallet divisions of a corporate wallet with 1000 being the first dviision.
BTW, are you using EWA or EWAAutoData to pull the API data? If you don't already do so, try EWAAutoData. It's newer than EWA itself and has some API handling improvements. Unfortunately I can't publish a similar EWA version, as the updating code's a mess currently, as I try to rewrite that one.

It's a corp key, so the all characters problem shouldn't be an issue.
I'm using the EWA data puller. When I try to launch EWAAutoData, I get the following error:
An unknown error occured while loading this application. Check the log file for further information.
When using the linked address, I get a page full of data. I copied and pasted the API key info out of EWA, so it's the same key and vcode.
If it helps, I don't have any character keys in EWA. Just the corp key. |

Oh, it never occured to me that one would use EWA in such a way. You might be on to something here ... I'm currently not at my development machine and won't be until Tuesday, but that could explain both the 364 error in EWA and the "unknown error" of EWAAutoData.
So perhaps as a workaround (if that's indeed what's causing the errors) you could add a character keyID/vCode to EWA, even if you don't use it.
Quote: Check the log file for further information.
BTW, the log file location for both applications is in Windows Vista and upwards C:\ProgramData\EVEWalletAware\LOGS. EWAutoData's log files (which are all plain text files) all start with "EWAAD"

Thanks for the continued feedback, folks.
Out of curiousity: if you go to "Extras" - "Cached XML files", are there any entries with "Query type" = "Wallet journal (corporation)"? And if so, if you click on (one of) them, does the lower window show any content? And again, if so, does it look like valid journal data or can you spot some kind of error message? (Hint: you can export the XML to file and open it with i.e. Internet Explorer for better readability)

Yeah, that works because of the bug I had in there. Your comment about only using a corp key led me to the right place. Which should now be fixed, along with the 364 error, when trying to open a wallet journal window when no journal data is currently present.
Said that, I've released a new version of both EWA (2.1.19) and EWAAutoData (1.0.30). I highly recommend to update both applications, as they share the same offending code.

I can switch the characters around, but its not recongising the second account (under Select Account), and only lets me view Corp A's wallet details. When i remove the API set 1, i still can't see Corp B's wallet info. I am a director in corp A but only accountant in corp B. |

Sheesh, sometimes I wish I could run a dedicated EWA testing account in order to be able to duplicate your settings and test with 'em.
Any chance that you might do away with the "All character" personal key and created two dedicated API keys for the characters in question?.
To be honest with you: I just skimmed over that 7 years old part of EWA's code and couldn't really tell what's going on there. I really need to have a closer look = takes a bit longer.

EWA's Scylla database update has been published.
I also deployed a sneak update to EWA itself a while ago, in case you missed it.
This lets you disable the "Client" filter for wallet transactions (look in "Options", "Wallet/Assets", "Disable client filter"). As stated there, this speeds up laoding times for the wallet transaction window as it doesn't load all the client names that way.
Enjoy!

EWA also stores its data in a MS Access database, which can be used as a data source from within Excel.

While the Aegis database hasn't been released by CCP yet, I've published a new version of EWA to bridge the gap until I can update EWA's database. It includes two minor additions:
Quick briefing The wallet transaction amounts now also apply broker fees and/or sales taxes as set in "Options".
Assets The Assets window received a new grid column, "Date/Time". The date shown there indicates when the item's value was retrieved from the selected data source (EVE Central, EVE Market data).

Hello - I'm in search of a tool that will download my open sell orders. And download my current inventory. And then add the two and allow that data to be dumped into an Excel sheet. Basically I want a tool that allows me to see the complete inventory I have of each item by character. A nice add would be to limit it to a market basket of products. Is this possible with EVEwalletaware? If not - any recommendations?

EWA would allow you to do that - in a way: you can export each of EWA's forms to an Excel sheet. So you could export your sell orders (one sheet) and your assets (another sheet). You would have to paste the two sheets together in Excel then.
EWA also provides a couple of filters, but to be honest: I don't think those aren't enough to create what you describe as a "market basket", though it may help in reducing unwanted data. I'm no "Excel guy", but I think the basket might be better build using Excel's filtering options.
As for other tools, jEveAssets is specialized in asset management. Then there's Evernus, another trading app. And EveHQ, with its various plugins.
Not sure if and what kind of export capabilities those tools provide, though.

I just noticed that EVE Central has addede SSL to its API.
If you want to enbale EWA to use HTTPS instead of HTTP when accessing EVE Central, open its INI file.
(Go ? -> Show locations and open it from there, make sure to close EWA before you save your changes as EWA would otherwise overwrite them)
Find the line
ECBaseURL=http://eve-central.com
and simply change it to

Inspired by a capsuleer's question over in the Tech Lab forum, I've thrown together a little companion tool for EWA, called EWAViewer.
As you EWA users might or might not be aware, EWA let's you export the data you currently looking at to its own file format by right-clicking on the grid and select "Save as ...". (Well, most grids ... I'm sure I've left out a few ...) You could hand the resulting file to another EWA user and he could open it in his EWA (menu File -> Open grid) and view the data you sent him. BTW, the exported data includes what you currently see in the grid and only that, honoring all filters currently in place. So the recipient got to see only what you want him to see.
The above has long been a feature of EWA.
EWAViewer is just that: a viewing tool for the data file you exported. It's self-contained It doesn't require an installation of EWA itself nor any API keys or other (EVE) data from the user.
It didn't took long to separate out that part of EWA into this 'lil tool. If at least one of you guys finds it a useful addition, it's well worth the time it took me.
You'll find the EWAViewer at EWA's download page.
Enjoy! (and bug-report ofc, in case it doesn't work ...)

I've released a new EWA version (2.1.24).
- Upon the request of an EWA user, I've added a new filter option "Vendor" to the wallet transactions. This filter doesn't make much sense for a single trader, though. But for corporate transactions, this lets you filter on the corp member who did the actual transaction(s).
- The charts window now also respects the setting for enabling/disabling the "Client" filter, resulting in a minor loading speed gain when the client filter is disabled.
I've also updated the setup to include the latest release and database (Galatea).

This tool gathers all the scattered data from the YAML files and SQLite database and imports them back into the SQL database. So hop over to the above linked forum post and give Mr. McCallock a big hand.

I've published a bug fix for both EWA (v2.1.28) and EWAAutoData (v1.0.32).
This fixes an issue when fetching item prices from EVE Central and you're possessing items that EC for whatever reason doesn't support and therefore won't answer a request with price data. In that case, EWA ignored any price retrieved so far and "dropped" out of the processing method.
tl;dr EWA wasn't retrieveing prices from EVE Central anymore. This has been fixed.

Holy Hell dude. I just resubed after a few years gone. One of the things that happened near the end of my last tenure was the API changes and you heading out. That was a huge blow to me because I had built a lot of personal tools in a MS Access which could easily piggyback on your backend. I spent a LONG time trying to figure out how to import attribute centric xml into access and never could figure it out so I had to rely on other tools (which while good never could really operate the same as my personal stuff designed for my needs). I really hope your backend is still MS access compatible. Being able to do customizable queries in my own environment is going to be fairly critical for some of the work I want to do now (trying to build some linear optimization models and MRP systems for industrial/market optimization).
Even if not it's really great to see you back, your tool, even as a standalone, was excellent for analytical work. Never really found anything else that worked as well.
Most fortuitous.

Whelp, what would a good tool be without some good problems.
So I downloaded it and tried to give it a run on an install. Strangely the installer hangs immediately. Shows up in my task manager (2 times, like 116k each) and can't be killed with an "end process" command, so it's hung pretty seriously. I dug through Event Viewer as well as I could and couldn't find anything particularly obvious with it. Restarted and tried running the install a handful of times and didn't see any errors pop up, but the same issues persists.

Hmm, I'm using Win 7 64 bit, too. Other than the typical suggestions like a) must be run "As Administrator" and b) make sure your virus scanner doesn't interfer with the installation process, I don't know what may be the cause.
Can you check how far the installation process proceeded? I.e. is there a folder BasicAware\EVEWalletAware in your Program Files (x86) folder? Is there something in it?
If you can't get it to install, send me an EVEMail. We'll figure out a way to do a manual install.
And yes, it's still MS Access based.

Right. ValueSource stands for 0 - EWA (=calculated from your own transactions) 1 - EVE-Central 2 - EVE Marketdata
Quote: I have 6 value types, what are they?
These corespond with the the combobox entries "Average type" in the Assets window: 0 - Average Total 1 - Average Buy 2 - Average Sell 3 - Median Total 4 - Median Buy 5 - Median Sell
Quote: Also, which region is used for this pull?
All regions. The query string for Tritanium, typeID 34 would look like http://api.eve-central.com/api/marketstat?typeid=34
Perhaps I should implement the option to select a dedicated region ...

It might not be a bad idea. For things like minerals we're talking about a razors edge, so small regional differences could matter. Both average and median are provided by EVE Central, so currently I just "spit 'em out". I also admit that I'm not statistics genius and therefore would need to teach myself first about how the percentile is calculated. So this won't be a quick addition to EWA ... but you'll never know.

Yes and no. I both dind't know where to get the values from and if I had to calculate them myself, what kind of information "Percentile" provides.
OK so especially for you the next EWA release will also store EC's percentile values. It extends the list I provided earlier:
0 - Average Total 1 - Average Buy 2 - Average Sell 3 - Median Total 4 - Median Buy 5 - Median Sell
6 - Percentile Total 7 - Percentile Buy 8 - Percentile Sell
As of now, the values are only stored in the DB but aren't used anywhere within EWA.

The new database update has been released.
Some notes accompanying both the new release of EWA and this database:
1) Fees / Taxes I haven't come around implementing the new taxes/fees formula, therefore the estimated results given by EWA are currently wrong. They were (worst case) estimations anyway, as I only took the character's skills into account, dismissing his standing towards the station owner. Doing it that way ensured that EWA always underestimated your profits, never overestimated them. If you have enable tax/fee estimation (Extras -> Options -> tab "Wallet / Assets"), you might want to disable that for the time being.
2) Citadel locations As of now, it's unsure (to me, at least) who i.e. assets provide information about their location, if they're located in a citadel. Same's true for transactions occurring in citadels. Worst possible outcome: EWA retrieves and stores (this is important - nothing gets lost!) this information from the API, but simply fails to display assets/transactions taking place in a citadel. Once it's clear how to do that and a proper EWA version is released, these items will automatically "reappear". Best possible outcome: citadels work just like player build stations and everything's fine from the get-go.

Lange Rede kurzer Sinn....

If your database isn't too old, it should upgrade your existing data and preserve the old contents. It's a good sign that you see new XMLs to be fetched. My bet is that although EWA can fetch the data with the API key you provided, it then fails to insert the data into the DB, because it assumes a certain table structure which your old DB doesn't provide yet. Have a look at Extras -> Application log and see if it shows any database errors (ADO something ...)
If that (=upgrading the DB) fails, I can offer you to have a look at your DB, provided you trust me enough to send me your DB file, of course.

API key's are ok and working fine.
A new install with a brand new DB work fine too.
the old DB may be to old like you say and so I hope I can use both DB's in same time. will it work ?
The last proper use of EWA was April 2014 |

Nope, that doesn't work.
Have you tried updating the DB as I suggested? Menu "?" -> "Check for updates"

The new database update (version 73, sde-20160912-TRANQUILITY-legacy) has been published.
I've also released a new version of EWAAutoData (1.0.37). It fixes the issue that in Windows 10, EWAAutoData didn't appear in the taskbar and was also missing from the ALT-TAB list.

Folks,
I've prepared a guide on how to create (and distribute) your own database update for EWA. OP has been updated accordingly.
I'd appreciate any comments/suggestions.

ESI API aka "The End Is Near"
Fellow EWA users,
in case you missed the recent memodev blog, CCP just announced a new API for EVE: EIS.
I'll spare you the technical details, which you can find in the above linked dev blogs, if you're interested. Here's the important part concerning EWA (I've boldened the important bits):
Quote: Once we replicate all current CREST and XML API functionality in ESI, we will be shutting down both services. We are targeting 18 months from the release of this blog[/b] to achieve functional equivalence and work with application developers to upgrade their applications. Removing the need to use the XML API will be our first priority. We will be monitoring use of the XML API and CREST to both identify and assist third party developers in their migration efforts.
This is going to be an orderly and measured winding down of operations. As the first step of that, developers should know that as of the release of this blog, CREST and the XML API are officially in maintenance only mode. We will continue to deploy security updates and critical bug fixes to them, but any new feature requests will be implemented in the ESI API.
This means that EWA would have be to rewritten, basically from scratch. I'm not going to do that. Considering the new technology used for ESI, Swagger, and that EWA is written in VB6 (which obviously still works, but is heavily outdated) and that both technologies don't fit well together (there's Swagger support at all for VBClassic), I herewith declare the end of EWA.
I'll keep publishing database updates as long as the XML API works, but once that's switched off by CCP - it's game over. As mentioned in the quote above, that'll leaves you with ~18 month to hunt down and settle with an alternative marketing companion.
A personal note: when I started EWA back in 2007 and made it available to the public in 2008, I never thought that it would last this long. I've I'm not totally mistaken, EWA is the oldest, still supported 3rd party trading application. Even when I took a ~1 year off (Monoclegate), I kept publishing database updates. It therefore is sad to see this "baby of mine" die, but times are changing and I fully understand CCP moving on/forward. It was good while it lasted.
Fly safe! Hel
