yeah, ok, point taken.. thats still no reason to not announce something like that.. god, i really couldnt give a dam about the skill points cause i didnt lose any, but doing a change like that and not informing your players is idiotic to say the least.

I'm at work for the next five hours so I just don't care. As long as the new hardware is up and running by the time I get home I'm happy.
P.S.Can you email me some chocolate cake? -- (Battle hardened miner)

lol i have a job,a wife, a house ,a truck, a car, a projectcar(69 dart 340 wedge wroom), cash toys ect.
but What I have the most is patience to realize this is just a game , not my lifeAnd if CCP is going to try to make the game better more stable, then all the power to them i can wait a bit..
And if it is your life, may I be the first to offer my condolances.

In summery. Yes it would be nice to be told about these things in advance. However, there are ways to say things like that and ways to just sound like a whiney spoilt little brat. If only for your own sense of self respect, if you can not handle doing it for the benefit of others, ensure which side of the line you are on and everyone will get along a lot better.

Yes, that was sarcasm. Look guys, they have an hour downtime EVERY DAY. During this downtime, there are minor jobs that need doing, none of which expected to take more than the hour. However just sometimes, things don't go to plan. Deal with it.

unfortunately, i do have a job and a life, which is why when the servers go down for an hour an half longer than they should have been during my "peak" playing period, i tend to get a little annoyed
But, none of thats the point... even SWG (as crap as they are) would have announced something like this being in the works.
Anyone who works in IT knows this as fact "you mess with things, you got a chance of breaking things"... and when you screw up, you pay the price...
But not telling your user base whats coming when there's a chance your about to break things is truely pathetic.

I was training a skill, so thre was no harm done this time but I find it hard to take that CCP decide to implement what has turned out to be a more than trivial hardware change.
It went on well past the scheduled downtime, and there was no word from them again.
CCP should be more responsible in there customer liason and also with what they do to the servers, changes like this should be announced to us. And scheduled..

Now lets see the downtime has always been an hour give or take. yes it's not sent in stone it will only take an hour so deal with it.
So you want to take a dev away from doing there work of trying to get the servers back up and running just to post a quick message saying wait abit longer!!!
Come on how many of you can say: That when something went wrong that you were working on, the first thing you did was tell some one. Not as we all do try and fix it first!

Right, for unexpected things and emergencies.
But this was an UPGRADE, a planned thing, where there was additional hardware and they knew IN ADVANCE that it was going to happen.
So, before it does happen, how about CCP notifies the playerbase that they are upgrading the hardware and that the downtime may be extended?
Are you saying that this doesn't sound reasonable?

"Luck" has nothing to do with it.
They have to upgrade the hardware or the game will be unplayable. And then they'd lose money. It's a simple business decision.

If they told us every time they did something that *might* extend downtime, then the downtime message would permanently read "Scheduled downtime from 11:00am till it's done." Do you really want to know about every hotfix or tweak or reboot due to OS patch that *might* cause an issue and extend downtime?
I'm sure if they expected it to overrun in anyway they'd have told us in advance. They told us that there was a delay instead of just keeping quiet, give them a break! Theres far too much unneccessary *****ing and moaning done around here by sad gits with no life.

What a completely senseless whine
If the servers are down for dt for 1 hour each day, what do you care if they upgrade it, or talk it for a stroll?
This has to be the dumbest post I have ever seen, complaining about a hardware upgrade. Do you think it would have helped if they notified you?
CS should be stable enough for you by now.
DEVS: Well done, thank you for the upgrade, keep up the good work.

*sigh*
Explanation for the slow people (Serpensis):
Some of us only get to play for a couple of hours a day during the week. The time I get to play during the week is right after the server comes up.
Today CCP installed a Hardware Upgrade (which must have been planned, no?) and the downtime extended for an extra hour and a half. This ate up most of the time that I had available.
If there had been any notice from CCP, I could have gone and done something more interesting.
I'm glad others get to spend time playing, but I think that it's important that the people that maintain the game keep us informed of planned unavailability.

look, they DONT HAVE to tell folks when the server is going to be unavailable, just like the downtime is their option, if they want to extend it they can. Would you rather have a MOTD on the client saying Yardware upgrades, bear with us or nothing at all? Perhaps the hardware upgrades are a last minute nessisity? As is often the case with technology
Now if your complaining about wasting time waiting on the servers coming back up, just think of the time you've wasted starting this pointless thread. Also personal insults to fellow players aint cool mate, try to discuss things in a cooler manner. If you cannot do that then please do not do it at all.

Sometimes things go wrong.... anyone in IT knows that, as the OP pointed out...
Personnally id prefer to know it was "all hands on deck" getting things back up and running as soon as humanly possible, than "most hands on deck whilst someone better used fixing things uses valuable time to write an announcement"
Besides, sometimes when things go "bad" you dont know how long its going to take. Ive been there meself, there are times when you're being told "itll be up in 2 minutes, honest" and you figure, hell by the time i finish the announcement, theyll be back anyway. Sure in retrospect all those "just 2 mins" adds up to a lot, but at the time, its just 2 mins....
