I'm ****ed off....
what is the damn point of that?????? Except to make me hate this crap...
What I really don't like is the fact that there is no way I will ever be powerful enough to exact any kind of revenge... as they are far more advanced....
And I can't remember who one of them was....

And the cherry has been popped.
Grats Cisplatin, you can say you're a veteran of EVE now.
Why'd they kill you? Boredom, maybe, or perhaps they thought you might be carrying something valuable.
But sure you'll be powerful enough to get revenge. You can't one-shot a Battleship, bud, and you definitely can't one-shot a Battleship with friends.
So you got blown by another player for the first time. Laugh it off, get another ship together, and move on. If you spend a lot of time in lowsec, it'll hardly be the first or last ship you go through. But once you get some PvP combat practice in, you'll start smacking 'em around too. That's the way of EVE - ruthless competition.
Welcome to EVE. -------------- What good are actions if there's no one to tell the tale afterward?

Success is the ultimate revenge.
Gotta treat lowsec like a bad neighborhood. Someone comes near you, you run. There are no friends below .5 except those colored purple green or blue, everybody else is presumed to be hostile.

There is an Arab proverb that goes something like "A man who waits 7 years to avenge himself upon his father's killer acts in haste".
Revenge is so much sweeter when the person who did you wrong isn't expecting it.

The key to enjoying this game is to remember that you can always make for isk and buy more ships. So you lost a ship. What was it? A frigate? destroyer? In the grand scheme of things those ships are cheap. Wait until you have a few more months in to you, and you're flying a T2 ship and a buddy asks you to go PVP, and you agree, then you get out there and get trapped in a hostile region, and end up losing said T2 warship. Now that my friend, is pain...*sigh*

Not true. It is difficult to find who to trust, but to my experience, most ppl are decent, even pie-rats. Difficulty ofcourse is to decide who to trust. But it can be done.

Wrong. You can get revenge. I have a small list of persons I will pay a visit in the future... As has been stated before: the sweetest revenge is when the mark has no idea... ----- FreeHansje

I can see that you might be expecting the gang option to be like the partys you form to raid dungeons and what not in other games. This is one of the many uses of the function, but...
Where in other games you only kill people for fun, it has practical use to destroy another ship in Eve. You kill for the purpose of stealing loot, testing setups, creating future conflict, maintaining notoriety, add another kill mark on the hull, keeping others away, and yeah: sometimes just for fun. Let me tell you just one thing: Everyone who enters low sec are hunters and hunted. You put yourself in a position to be hunted. That being said, there are more means to evade hunters than there are ways to hunt the hunted. For an oblivious newbie like yourself, this results in the same kind of destruction that happens to everyone first time. Be glad you experienced it now when ship loss means nothing, I was in a cruiser when it happened to me the first time and that sucked a little, but I was glad I was not in a battleship or something like that because that would have been a bigger loss.
Some pointers: Eve is 45% a PVP game, PVE is just an underdeveloped 10% sidething because it is necessary to have in an MMO. Use your anger to fuel your love for PVP and you'll love Eve more than ever. If you don't even like PVE, then maybe you should become a producer or miner, which is the other 45% of Eve. If you want PVE Im afraid you'll be bored pretty soon, especially if you're killing NPCs in low sec where you make up a perfect target for piracy, as PVE'ers tend to fit good mods since they don't expect to lose them, and they are much more fun to kill than miners and haulers.

The best advice is can give you is Petience, the time will come when you can axact your revenge on these pirates. Untill them, add their names to your "special" list and get training up those skills. GL

They're not "jerks."
They're called pirates. They wanted your loot.
What, did you think you are special and deserve a "get out of pirate free" pass?
And do you seriously think there's no way to get revenge? Hire a merc to take out the pirate (costs a good few 10s of millions, not too much), or get a few friends and take him out yourself. You'd be surprise how easy it is to beat a large ship in a group. -- Proud member of the [23].

There's a reason you get a warning when you first go into low sec space. The whole point is with the potential for greater rewards comes greater risk. As has already been said, if you really want to bear a grudge, you and a group of friends can kill them irrespective of how long they've been in game. With the right ships/set-ups revenge can be very sweet.

I have a list I been carrying around for alot longer than that. they are going to be soooo hacked.... the best part is all I remember is they are on the list, I don't even rember why. but I'm sure it'll really ruin their day. The Destruction of your ship is usually preceeded by the thought,"I think I will try somthing a little different this time...." |

And when you don't have any loot? Are they still "pirates" when they kill you in a shuttle? Or your pod? Or can you accept that there are people out there who get kicks from gratuitous actions that have no real gain for them?

The other problem is that people learn by experience. So if you do let new people go, they will continue to be reckless until someone kills them in their new cruiser. And if you don't kill them in a cruiser it will be a battleship etc. etc. It's by losing stuff that you learn to take care of what you have; in the short-term bending the rules for new players might be nice, but it will really hurt them later on.

I notice that you didn't actually answer my questions, nor those of the original poster.
If these so-called pirates really cared only about loot, they'd use ship and cargo scanners and they'd know whether it was worthwhile to engage another ship. So when someone opens fire on a ship that has no worthwhile loot or useful cargo, it must be because of something other than loot.
Would a mugger stick a gun in everyone's face if he had a way to see if passersby had money in their wallets?
As for your allegation that the best loot is carried by alts in shuttles, I remain skeptical. A 10m3 cargo bay doesn't allow for the transport of a lot of loot, and a shuttle doesn't offer much protection for such valuable items. People don't tend to make instas for such loot runs, and if they do... I bet they aren't carrying that loot when they do it.
Now, would you care to address the actual issue at hand?

In dangerous space most BPCs or BPOs are carried either in a CovOps ship or a shuttle. Shuttles are excellent for getting by gate-camps and often signal something juicy.

Wrong--fitting a ship and cargo scanner gimps your setup. With a ship and cargo scanner you won't be able to tank the sentries.

As I said, transporting such a valuable item in a shuttle is foolish. If he's got that kind of bread, he should be able to afford a more durable form of transportation for his precious goods.

A battleship is not going to survive against a ten person gate camp. Unless you have a big convoy, it will ultimately come down to speed and agility.
I use a covops for dangerous gear, but some people just don't have the ability to fly it. In dangerous space a solo BS is *very* vulnerable to a pirate group.

everyship has its weakness, Battleships arn't the "win button either" btw you can get their ame in kill rights so you can kill them anywhere for a month i belive it is.
As for my option, personally i guess i would classify my self as an anti-pirate right now, i dont get my fun from holding the weaker hositge for isk, but right now i am finding eve less fun them when i started, i have stoped doing missons since it is the same missoin more ore less repeated 50 times, minging doesn't generate the isk needed for serious money making unless you have acess to the 0.0 ores.
Chances are that the players that killed you have been playing for about a year or so, and in that year they have probally tried just about every profession that there is, and PvP isthe most fun in thier eyes.
the reason that they probally killed you was
1) they thought that the loot that would drop would be worth more than the ransom you could py 2) you gave the false impression of being stronger than your are. meaning being in a BS a lot sooner than you should be.
the best part of eve is that no matter what happens you can crawl your way out of the gutter no matter how broke you are. my adviceis to join a mining corp, these corps are good for teacng you the ropes and provide a safe environment to learn and get thoes skills.
and a group of 5 well fitted frigates can easialy take out a battleship just get a possy togeather and get your revnege.
also what did you lose

On a somewhat related topic, are there any viable accepted reasons for podkilling? I understand and accept pirates blowing to bits for loot, challenge, or fun and games, but once you've scrapped their ship and claimed their cargo, is there any reason to go and a-splode their escape pod as well?
I don't have anything against losing a ship, but there's nothing to gain from podkilling, and it just makes your camping spot that much more obvious on the map, so what's the point? Other than jackassery, of course...
(This is an honest question, I'm curious about the mentality here :)

No, there are many things to gain.
1. The primary reason. It gets the victim out of local. If he stays in the area, he will smacktalk for hours on end and alert all the locals to the pirate's presence.
2. It gives you a corpse.
3. It makes a nice squishy sound. -- Proud member of the [23].

TBH if people couldn't speak in local when in a pod there would be a heck of a lot less poddings.
Oh, one extra reason is to inflict maximum damage: implants are lost when podded.

There are ships that have better speed (and probably also agility) than a shuttle and better defensive capability to boot. Trusting a 10 Billion ISK BPO to a shuttle in hostile territory is as foolish as driving through South Central on a bicycle with a backpack full of $100 bills.
