There is no best. Tactics and experience makes your ship the best only in your "hands". There is no easy way out.

Personally I would say the Caracal is the most deadly cruiser around atm.

thorax used to be king, dunno bout now, missile bonus sure does make caracal nasty. moa is interesting as well, nifty shield bonus, plus with t2 guns and tracking comps you can turn into a ****ty eagle, kinda.

Try a rupture or a thorax best cruisers for PVP in my opinion.

Maller. Tank forever, and a low, but steady stream of DPS. Amarr style.

there is no best cruiser :)
every ship has nice bonis for a other tactic
a rax with a 1600er plate and 5 drones is deadly but a vexor with the same setup is deadly too. so you can use a abtribator with nos and drones and you can kill other cruiser. important is your fitting which you use to engage other cruiser. you can kill a rax in a caracal but you get problems if the caracal attacks a blackbird which jamm the caracal. so every setup has advantages but there will ever be one pilot who can kill you

The Augor ! Its cheap enough that when i come into a belt and kill you you wont be crying!
In all seriousness ive done allot of pirating in Cruisers, Plated Maller, Rax Plated or a Plated Arbi are All a good choice. Caracal is ok but i find it very fragile.

IMO
Blackbird > Rupture > Vexor/Thorax > Caracal/Moa/Maller
Blackbird has EW so it has a good chance to take on anything and run if it can't beat it. Rupture has a good balance of tank/drones/guns. Vexor and Thorax both have good tank and the drones are great. Maller has great tank but low damage (really depends actually, if you fit cruiser guns, more damage but less tank). Caracal has a pretty weak tank though it does great damage, best in a gang. Moa is best used for sniping. Sure it can do some pretty damage upclose with blasters, it can do a bit of ew but other ships can do that better.

Edited by: Spaced Skunk on 23/01/2006 12:14:50 Edited by: Spaced Skunk on 23/01/2006 12:13:46 Caracal is hard to use solo PVP. Quite a weak ship.
Vexor I would say with decent drone skills is great. And one of my favs also is the rupture.
Vexor - Best tank you can fit. Include nos. Drones = damage :)
Rupture - I use - 3 X 425MM autos, 2 X heavy launchers, 1 Medium nos, AB, 20KM disrupter, webber, medium rep II, 3 hardeners and a cap relay.
Caracal - 5 X heavy launchers, 1 X 20KM disrupter, 3 X multispectrals, 1 X cap booster, 2 X ballistic controls.
Important point is, use the cruiser that fits your skills.

Such a beautiful cruiser. Fast, tough and sucks 4tw! awesome vs frigs but can do plenty of damage to cruisers that get too close!
Domination/Serp web (lvl 5 min frig) gives 19km + range. You then control the fight. Get to NOS range (19km NOS )and enjoy.
True, ****ing expensive but so much fun

If you mean for solo PvP, then neither; Amarr ships suck for solo PvP, and Caldari ships cant afford the midslots to tackle and mount an effective tank.
If you mean for group PvP though, then:
Best Caldari/Amarr Cruiser:
Maller is awful, as people will just not shoot you so your tank means nothing, and your DPS is fairly irrelevent.
Blackbird, great support ship, awful DPS and obviously pretty much no tank,
Caracal rocks also; it has major hitting power, and heavy missiles do enough damage to webbed/painted frigates to be useful there too. It can also mount EW in its mids, making it essentially a Blackbird that deals damage. Pick this.

Had a few sparring fights with a BB with a friend who runs t2 ECM using my Thorax and he never put a dent on me b4 i broke his tank. Escaping is FTL plus a BB will always get called primary in any engagement of more than 2 targets:) Add the fact that you can;t actually tank on the BB if you want to use any sensible ECM setups and you have a good fleet support cruiser, not a gunship...
