Geezus, they finally decided to make a move into DX11 because everybody apparently run Eve on calculators and you want them to support some barely released OS just because it had geek news headlines for like 5 seconds?
On the other hand they made mediocre shooter for PS3 so expect full Steam OS support next month. I am not my skills but... http://eveboard.com/pilot/Schmata_Bastanold |

I dream of native linux client. The steam on linux initiative is a bold step btw, I'm curious if steam is strong enough to actually change things, it would be interesting. Windows is boring.:) |

At least I can fix most of my problems on Windows by myself (which I rarely have), when I use Linux I have to consult 7 different people on changing display settings through the console and still fail to change the screen resolution no matter what superuser rights I command. Also when there are issues with Windows I'll probably find at least a few people who have had the same problem and know how to fix it. God help you if you can't connect to the web and need help with that, altough with the advent of smartphones this problem is a little lesser.

Playing EVE with a controller on the livingroom couch. That would make POS bashing and laggy blops a lot more enjoyable, I can imagine. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UoavH8xbrPE |

Cool story bra. If you even fail at finding the menu for the display settings and think you have to do something on the cli then I doubt very much that Linux or the desktop environment you used was the problem. I hope you stay on Windows, I would hate it if the "fix my printer" crowd switches over. |

Well Einstein, I obviously did try to change the settings from the control menu. Didn't work. Then I explained my problem and asked around how to change the settings manually I was told to edit a config file, which I did, once again to no avail. As a final resolution they told me to "type this command to the console and use super user" to do it. Did so and still did not work. After this people just shrugged and said they didn't have any solution that they could think of. And yes I did provide them with all the relevant information they asked of me - the system was updated with latest drivers and system updates available, aside from that it was a fresh installation.
Anyway, as I really wasn't too keen on using my computer with 800x600 resolution in the year of the lord 2010 I did what any sensible user would do after trying to fix a very damn basic problem with the help of numerous people for a week, fixed MBR and formatted the Linux partition and continued using Windows I hadn't and wasn't planning on uninstalling due to Linux being a relatively poor OS for gaming at the time and as far as I've understood, still is. |

Superiority complex from Linux users is probably the worst part of that OS and will never get fixed. Good to know you're an uber master 10th degree on computer sciences programming nuclear engineering and yada yada.
Ex linux user here, WIndows is for sure not the best but my 64b Win8 version entirely satisfies all my needs, and for once one that works. I don't need to be a computer nerd to get my stuff sorted, it's easy, simple, it's click&go, that's exactly what you guys don't like because you need to feel special and make it know, have claps and thx from fans etc... sadly for Linux and its future. *removed inappropriate ASCII art signature* - CCP Eterne |

What about the people who forget about how that steam box is supposed to be able to run your games on your windows computer and just have a stream to your TV with controller link? Why would dev make a steam box client when the win client can be streamed? Well as long as the feature work I guess... |

Let's try again...
I have a USB controller on my PC. I use it for various games sometimes.
This doesn't mean I HAVE to use it for every last game - as a matter of fact I'm using a keyboard to type this right now! The controller is just sitting on my desk looking sad that I'm about to use the mouse to press post... |

SteamOS will be openGL where as Eve is directX based, Eve on Mac and Linux just use the Wine DLL to emulate directX. CCP would need to recode the engine in openGL to truly benefit from Linux and with the dx11 announcement this seems very unlikely.
In other news got Eve running on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS no probs just get some slowdown with certain SFX. |
