What inspired you to name your character or characters the way that you did. Is your character set up just for playing the game as it is or do you role play with your character as well? It would be neat to get a good cross section of the EVE community out there and see how people like to experience the game through their characters...

Alexia Te'Len is the name of my Elven Wild Mage in DnD, I use that name here because, with a few alterations (There's no "magic" in EVE, for example) the character's mindset, attitude and general ability seems to suit the EVE universe.
Hard to explain really.
That and the name suggests "Hey, lookit me! I'll Roleplay! Roleplay with me dammit! ROLEPLAY! >.<".
I have nothing against "FPS names", but it does feel weird Roleplaying with someone called "Uber1337Killah747".

Edited by: Rinekar on 27/08/2003 16:43:39 I totally agree. When I joined the EVE universe back in beta I was intrigued with the rich story and background. My character names (Rinekar, Renkar and Fenklar) all have a significance in their own right. After release when it became evident (well it was true even in beta) that most of the players were not out to role play and have fun with the story I was a little disappointed. However there is the little part of the demographic that does, which helps. One of the things I keep seeing repeated on the boards is that CCP needs to give us content. I think that many have failed to realize that they have done an incredible job in doing so. Take for example the story line. If you look at it in depth or even casually skim it you can see there are endless opportunities for us to develop our own content for the game. EVE is in fact a player driven game.
As for my characters Rinekar and Renkar, I play them as brothers of and Intaki miner and an ex-Amarr Ni-Kunni Slave. They have prospered and done well for themselves and now own their own manufacturing corp. that builds equipment for ships. As for Fenklar he is an ex-Amarr slave to that has escaped his old master and now is a freedom fighter on the border of Minmatar and Amarr space. I decided to do this so that I could have more fun with the game and it has made it possible. It is interesting how even them most mundane task of mining can become a dynamic adventure when role played. I would love to hear what you the EVE community has to say on this matter and get your positive feedback...

I wonder what's worse,
an Elven Wild Mage wearing pink cloth and jumping from tree to tree called Alexia Te'Len
or
someone with an Aug and a CMAG called "Uber1337Killah747" destroying the entire elven population with one full auto spray and pray and crying "r0x0r3d".
Wait, even worse are those ASCII special character dudes, you simply can't spell their names.

I'm disappointed in you, Rinekar. Until that last post, I'd imagined you'd named your character as a tribute to the time when Gary Lineker played in Japan..... |

My character comes from one of the main characters in the "Night's Dawn Trilogy" by Peter F. Hamilton.
If you've read the books you'll find a LOT of similarities with the world of Eve.

I love the rich storyline and picked my name accordingly. I've been searching for roleplayers in this game since day 1 but have failed to find any with my caliber of play. |

I thought Molly named herself after that character in the Vectrex game "Spike".
But then again, I doubt she knows what a Vectrex is.
Where my callsign comes from is quite clear: Greek mythology, to fit with the Hadean theme. My character name is simply thought up. -------------------------------------- Sarela "Eurydike" Taris

Discorporation. Rawr. been my online nick for around four to five years now, if not more. (It's a shamanistic process of detaching the spirit from the body, and a way to keep heads alive seperate from the body. Neat, huh?).
My RP name Dote mal Payne was ruthlessly pilfered from the Dark Sun AD&D (welcome to the dork side) world. He was a necromancer, ate humanoid flesh and rode a giant undead beetle into battle.

Lol.
I don't know when William Gibson has written Johnny Mnemonic exactly, but I am pretty sure, that it was before 1982 and Neuromancer was 1984.
Sorry, I don't remember playing on the Vectrex, I might be. Didn't want to disappoint you. I am not such an old fart as you are , but at least I have read some good books.
And btw not everybody had the access to state of the art gaming technology in the 80's, just think of east europe...

Entity
|

[24]
Edited by: Entity on 27/08/2003 19:18:31 "Entity", well. I adopted this name for numerous reasons.
In no particular order:
- Star Trek (Crystalline Entity)
- The only consonants are N, T and T, which when pronounced by themselves sound like Entity again. It's the shorthand spelling of my nick people often use on IRC and in other chat channels.
- With certain fonts, if you write eNTiTy, the NTT bit sticks together using the dot on the i. I used this spelling on IRC for some time until I realised it could be seen as an attempt to be "l33t" (the random caps stuff, which wasn't really random), which kind of sucks :-)
- Versatility. You can mangle the name in many ways on IRC depending on the situation (ent-city, aunt-ity, etc)
- Primary meaning; a being, a lifeform. But it doesn't tell you much about gender or origin, which I like.
- Alternate meanings; It's used in various fields of science I relate with (most notably computer related: HTML entities, 3D entities, etc).
- Aesthetically pleasing character balance (subjective as it may be :). It's a graphically balanced word, it just looks ok. It can be written with one unbroken string of line segments too, except for the I, which gives ample possibilities for creating a logo or so.

I made up a weird-sounding name for no particular reason.
I have my own, utterly unique, net-name but I didn't want to use it here. (And no, it isn't vrneuigprh43p652379854gqn5uig542qh5t4f. My utterly unique net-name is only 7 characters long, all letters, 3 of them are vowels, and it's entirely pronounceable )

In beta, I made a gallente char that was named "Looks***". And he did indeed, look ***.
I figured I didn't want to get stuck with a char like that for the rest of the retail. And, a possible namechange and/or deletion because of the offencive nature was suspected too.
So... I made a char that looked SlightlyMad instead.
The name actually fits my IRL personality. It just looks more evil :) Sometimes I do roleplay a bit, pushing myself to do quite some stupid stunts just for the hell of it. * -"You know, we play the "good guys" right? We kill pirates, griefers, retards and general subversive elements in the EVE-Community. To the rest, we are friendly and always prepared to help out. Peo |

COWPS IS GOD
this comes from football, by the way yanks and rugby freaks the game is called football we have football clubs, football associations eg the f.a. u.e.f.a. and not forgetting f.i.f.a.
if it wasnt for football you wouldnt have your games. football-rugby-gridiron, also other off shoots like gaelic and aussy rules.
as for cowps
colin cowperthwaite played for barrow assocition football club, fromm the late 70's to the early 90's for over 20yrs was a faithful servant playing for his home town, even tho he lives in grange 25 miles away, he played over 575 games and scored over 250 goals. he turned down numerous approaches from the professional clubs such as carlisle, preston rochdale etc. in the northwest of england to stay with barrow afc, he won northern premier league medals, presidents cup and chairman cup winners medals.
the highlight of his carrear with barrow was on the 14th of may 1990 when he helped barrow to win the f.a.trophy (thats the football association trophy) beating leek town at wembley 3-0, he scored the second goal of the three with a diving header.
the cowps is god is a trtibute to him by the fans when a fanzine was created, he was still playing at the time, the first issue of "give 'em beans" had the title spash and a pic of colin on the front stating "cowps is god or what!!"
now it is just cowps is god.
feel free to donate to the church of colin cowperthwaite, he will undoubtedly bless you and his face will shine on you, with the toothless grin he has
IS COWPS GOD OR WHAT?
yes he is 575 app = 250+ goals
praise be to COWPS |
