So for running lvl 4missions I thought something like: high
5 1400mm 3 assault launchers
med 2x specific hardeners (though maybe invul field as I'll be fighting angels right? a bit of advice would be welcome here) XL shield booster + shield boost amp cap recharger
I could go with 4 inv fields/2x2 spec harderners without boosting though
low gyro's, PDU's and maybe cpu upgrade if neccesary
I haven't tried this, rather new to lvl4's so some feedback plz

I'm not sure why people are talking about setups as if they are one-time things.
I fly level 4 in a Tempest and I change rig to suit the mission. Obviously swapping hardeners depending on the enemy but also switching 5 x 800mm for 5 x 1400mm if the opportunity exists to snipe rather than rumble.
I normally warp in with 800's and clear the entry groups and then scope it out. I can either finish the pocket with ac or swap to artillery depending on the layout and ship types. In which case the shield extender gets swapped for a sensor booster.

Edited by: Matrices Sunbound on 05/04/2006 18:02:43 Why do you need a webifier on a Tempest while using 2 Nos? Shouldn't the Nos suck dry the cap of anything under a BS pretty fast, so that the cruisers die from AC and the frigates die from light drones? And would you have problems hitting a MWD/AB BS that's under 10km with AC?

i believe naughty has some good spreadsheets, go root them out. It's less than most bs except for in falloff. Can't wait for 800mms to be fixed and therefore actually useful.

I've confirmed through painful experience that some of the big angels do thermal and some do em damage. I believe it was: Seraphims = em and Cherubims = thermal, but it may be the other way around. When trying to take a double or triple spawn of these bad boys, they will tear you apart if you are only tanked for explosive + kinetic. They will destroy your shield tank if they are doing em damage.
Indeed.
Angel Saints, the 1,1 million, do thermal. Angel Seraphim do EM, and Angel Cherubim do Thermal.

Yes, Tempests make good sniping ships. With the right equiptment and skills.
If you just have the base skills and all basic T1 mods, your not going to be very efective. But with the below setup your will kick some major arse.
6x T2 1400s (At least get Protos, or Scouts) 2-3x T2 Sensor Booster, 2-3x T2 Tracking Computers 3x T2 Gyro, 1x T2 RCU, 2x Whatever.
1400s are very expensive. Might want 2 WCS in the lows in case someone gets the warp in on you.

A "short" range 1400 setup needs to be able to tank incoming fire, since it won't be operating at sniper ranges. I suggest:
6 1400 II 2 malkuth rocket launchers (defenders)
1 XL C5L shield booster 1 heavy electrochemical cap injector 2 invulnerability field II 1 shield boost amp/tracking computer II/sensor booster II (pick one)
4 gyrostab II 1 reactor control II 1 coprocessor II
I can't remember the exact lowslot setup, so you may have to switch out one of the gyrostabs for a PDU II to get even more grid, but I think the setup as-is is do-able with high levels of advanced weapons upgrades. -Wrayeth

For PVE maybe switch one of the webbers for a Target Painter and fit some med drones with u for pesky frigs :)

I've fallen in love with variations on this theme. Sometimes I'll pop a hardner or two in place of something in lowslots, especially when I know who I'm fighting.
High Slots 6x 1400mm IIs 2x Seige Launcher IIs T2 Javeline ammo
Medium Slots 3x Sensor Booster IIs 2x Tracking Computer IIs

You need awu 5 for that setup. d425's aren't that bad if you need a bit of grid.

What about running 3 armor reps with 425s? 700 repair every 12 seconds equals 3500 HP per minute. So you last more than one minute and you've effectively got a 1600mm RT plate and then some. On the other hand, a named damage control gives you 5800 structure HP plus an effective ~2500 armor/shield HP, and doesn't require using another midslot for another cap injector to feed the third rep. Thoughts?

6x dual 650 II's 2x heavy nos
gisti b-type ab web scram heavy electro hypnos multi
large rep II 2x adaptive nano's 3x gyro's
or, w/o instas i use the identical setup to wizies dual rep 2x adaptive setup.

Just take any of the setups given and replace the t2 with named.
For fleet pest, to be honest if you can't fit t2 use faction. Shield tank it like you do the pest, but you have an extra slot for em hard, or ab or whatever

If you can only afford/use T1 stuff, then using a Fleet pest is probably not the best bet.

I was thinking of getting one of these for a bit of 0.0 ratting vs Sanshas, and also a bit of light PvP on the side.
So, I'd be having the standard 6x650mm A/C's and 2x Heavy NOS in the highs as I cant stand sniping about, up close is where the fun is at.
Given that its Sanshas I'll want to armour tank her to make use of that sexy 70% base EM resist. Not 100% sure on the low slot layout though, something like a Large Repper, 3x Hardners (Kin/Therm/Explo given that I dont know what any local pirates damage will be), leaves 2 Slots, I was thinking maybe a Gyro II and a 1600mm Plate (Maybe...is the 1600mm plate a bit of a hinderance when trying to get in Auto Range?).
Mids then...the Autocannon demands me to put a 100mn AB II on there, and then I'll need the usual Webber (x5 or Fleeting, dunno what I've got hanging around in my hangar). Leaving me with 3 spare slots....so...decision time.. :) Options:
1) Target Painter. Currently running one of these on my Geddon and its a blessing for when any little sod in an interceptor comes along to play. NOS them, paint them up, and web, and the poor wee thing usually has to limp home with a bruised ego. Great for NPC Frigs / Cruisers / Battlecruisers too, easy hits.
2) Cap Recharger. Well....I'm obviously going to want at least one of these, possibly more. Cap is life after all.
3) Multispec Jammer. For light hearted PvP fun, everyone hates getting a jam cycle on them. Useless for NPC's though.
4) Now....don't laugh....but what about a ECM Burst? Its 0.0 and Low sec, so CONCORD running about all over me isnt a problem. might be useful for when I get jumped by several unfriendlies with multiple scramblers. simply align, ECM burst, hit warp before they re-lock? (or do they "just not work"?)
5) Other suggestions anyone? (Cant use tracking Comps yet).
So, hows that looking? Am I in the rough ballpark area with that layout or am I simply walking into a lions den armed with little more than a toothpick for attack and a rolled up newspaper for defence?

I have kind of an unusual setup, at least compared to most people..
I have all of my missile skills and the add-ons (bombardment, etc) up to at least lvl4, and my artillery is up to large art. lvl4, with all the pre-reqs to at least 4 (or 5 if required). So I find that at least for mission running, which is what I do mostly, any modules that add damage or range become overkill, or just not really necessary.
I've been a shield tanker since the beginning, so my skills are much more geared for a shield tank as opposed to an armor tank. Besides, I think Minmatar ships are much better for shield tanking than armor, but that's just my opinion. ;)
The reason I think my setup is so unusual is because its SIMPLE. Here's how I run almost all missions:
- 4x 1200mm prototype - 4x malkuth siege launchers (depending on what i'm going to be facing, i may throw 4 heavy missiles on, or a mix of 2 siege and 2 heavy missiles - still don't have cruise missile skills quite yet ;)) - 5 large shield extenders, best named ones within my price range i could find - 5 shild power relays - 1 PDU
Now, I know i know, this is really not a very well thought out setup, right? But in all actuality, it allows me to tank every single lvl3 mission I've flown without a problem, and *most lvl4's. I've had a few troubles with 1 or 2 lvl4 missions where I had to warp out, wait about 30 seconds and warp back in, but that was it.
The above setup gives me roughly 17k shield (I think, I don't have eve at work so I can't check the hard numbers), and a recharge rate of about 415. I find this is fast enough, and a high enough shield HP that my shield recharges before the NPC's ever really get me down to armor.
I've tried running with 1 or 2 inv field, also with hardeners specific to the mission, I've also tried a variety of things in the low slots (PDU's etc), but no setup I've tried worked quite as well as this one. Its of course horrible for PvP, but I rarely do that. I'm still too green for PvP. ;)
