My name is Petur; I am the designer of EVE: The Second Genesis CCG. I promise we'll do our very best to deliver you a high-quality CCG and I hope that you will feel that it keeps up with the brand's standard.
The game is mainly aimed at mature gamers such as your selves as well as CCG veterans. Even though the game hasnÆt been officially announced yet, we obviously havenÆt been ôhush hushö about it
There will be a more formal announcement as soon as possible that will contain more information about the game and its release. E-ON also provides a lot of information on the game.

It is a "good" idea. But which place would it have with already well known CCG like Magic? I have EVE friends, but those are not very near where I live. Why would I buy such a game (and I really would like)?
If there was a CCGWorkshop version of it, i'd like to test it. Do you mind if someone did an electronic version of this CCG? ____________________________________ Free ISP users, read this if you have connections problems |

CCGW is a nice application, but I don't think CCP would appreciate an electronic version of the game right now. I can't speak for them (contrary to popular belief I don't work @ CCP) but I would estimate the chances of there being an electro-CCG are the same as for an electro-EON.

I hope this game is not just 2 player... Would be nice to have a large game where each player is a major empire or alliance... Remember the Babylon 5 CCG which did something like that? *wonders if there will be any mention of current player alliances in there* |

Making sure that the game would play equally as well in multiplayer as in 2-player has been an integral part of the game design, in fact, one of the beta groups prefers to play multiplayer only.

WOW! Still in Beta, eh? Do you need anymore beta testers? I'd love to try it out. In my community, there are five of us that are Magic the Gathering veterans that also play EVE with me. We are all part of the same corporation. I know they would love to help beta test as well. We take our gaming seriously and I think we could provide for you another perspective from half a world a way (San Antonio, Texas over here Yeehaw!)
To clarify from previous posts, CCG is an abbreviation for collectable card game. The term is used to denote a game that is primarily based in a card format (however, some companies do stretch the definition a bit). CCG's are different from other games in that each player plays with his own deck of cards that are customized by the player. Within the scope of the rules of that particular game, the player can customize his deck based on the availabilty of cards. This is where the term "collectable" comes in. Unlike a regular deck of playing cards, each box of cards contains a randomized collection of cards. The cards, more often than not, can be grouped into a collection much like a suit of playing cards (spades, hearts, diamonds, clubs) but the grouping has more meaning in a CCG as it determines compatability. Once you have bought several boxes of the cards, you will notice that you will have several repeats of the same card and fewer repeats of other cards. The name for this anamolly is what makes the game so addicting: rarity. Some cards are "rarer" then others. In a generic sense, most games have "commons", "uncommon", "rare-uncommons", "rares", and "ultra-rares". Usually the commons are the weaker cards and the Ultra-rares are the more powerful cards (but not always--sometimes they make fewer of a card just for collectablilty factor). To make EVE-sense out of this, think about the suit of cards being the races of EVE and the commons being frigates and rares being battleships. An Ultra-rare example could be the Navy Issue Megathron or a Daredevil Frigate.
Once you've tailored a deck, you can pit it against someone else who's done the same thing. Deck construction is it's own science and it can be frustrating at times. Each game system has its own rules for deck construction but most of them follow two basic rules: Card minimum and Card Compatibilty.
Card Minimum: You would think that if you had every card in your deck, you'd have everything at your disposal but the problem with that is the draw. The draw limits you as to how fast you get those cards you need into your hand. Plus, if you have a deck of 50 cards, there is a 1 in 50 chance that you will draw the card you need as opposed to a 100 card deck (1 in a 100 chance). Which odds would you prefer? So in this case, more is not necessarily better.
Card Compatability: Nothing is more frustrating in a game when you have your hand full of one suit of cards only to draw the next card you need but its the wrong suit. In playing CCG's the same thing applies. You could play with all one suit of cards but that also limits you too. Imagine (back to EVE sense)you play in a corp with that is all the same race. Lets say, Amarrians. Nice ships: strong armor, good ranged weapons and nice tank-ability. Now lets say you set up for sniping. Wohoo! Your 150km off a gate and ready for stragglers. But in warps a Blasterthron! Uh-Oh, could be trouble. If he gets under your optimal, you better get your warp on. In the CCG world, each suit or grouping has it's weaknesses much like a sniping Apoc vs a Blasterthron and if your opponent has just the deck to do it, you are smoked! So imho, playing at least two groupings is ideal. Each one to cover the other's weaknesses.
Well, I could go on but i'm running out of characters. He he. I hope this helps you understand some of the basics. My intention was not to write an exhaustive treatise on CCGs but it looks like a nice start for one. Well down to 66 characters. I guess I better stop (28). Matthias DuBastyra Imperiadux

Originally by: Shugo Kazuma Dunno if I'd be interested in actually playing a Collectable Card Game based on EVE, but I wouldn't mind picking it up if the artwork on the cards is half decent.
The artwork for the CCG has all been done internally, most of which have been taken from ingame screenshots or the illustrations used for the Eve Chronicles, and other sections of the web site. If you're a fan of our artwork, you will not be disappointed by the quality of the CCG artwork.

I'm guessing next we would have the equivelant of Battlefleet Gothic but with Eve... that would be... would be awsome!!
I dream alot I know.
I hope the CCG would be a complex one, as those are the CCG games that most mature audience finds atractive, at least around me. Battletech comes to mind as an original, diferent and complex game and some other games come to mind as Horus Heresy, Net Hack, etc.
I would still love a miniature game on the Eve universe

I think the real question is whether the predominant player base will be socially retarded 30 year olds with neckbeards hanging out in comics shops, or maladjusted 14 year olds being stuffed into their lockers at school between games.

Good point, Remedial but then again how would that be any different from EVE players? Based on the tone of your post there, I'd say your the maladjusted 14 year-old.

With a few years to lend perspective, I rather wish prosecutors would descend enmasse on corporations that peddle these gambling services to young people, especially whomever distributes those pokeman and other crap to my nephews. Surely, some prosecutor, somewhere sees a RICO acts violation or something in all this.
However, I do kinda miss those fellow childhood geek friends who would meet every other night for a 6 geek tabletop free for all with red and green jellybeans for kobold tokens. Those guys are probably all either in prison now, or killed in a freak LARPing accidents.
If you or someone you know is a teenager and is considering a flashy lifestyle of collectible card gambling, please stop and tell your friends that it would be better and more productive to do something wholesome like support the local alcohol distribution centers. Think of the children!

Just a small suggestion, you could do an un-glued-like set which could contain things like TomB's nerfbat and a lag cannon, could also make things like "Eris's Pink Dread of Doooooom" and a "Wrangler Ban Stick" etc, would make an amusing addition :)
