CONCORD is supposed to prevent this. You should NOT lose your life's work in FRIGGING JITA!
CCP have long since abandoned that policy; in fact, they now deny that it ever existed to begin with.

Unless things changed in RMR cans don't help. Last time I scanned a hauler with stuff in cans I could still see everything.

I didn't read this, so I'm sorry if this has been said already.
I'm very, very sorry for the OP, that's a terrible thing to happen. And CONCORD is supposed to show up to protect you, not just to blow them up after they've destroyed you.
However, some advice for the future...You're going to need to carry large items in an industrial, yes. But for items that are very small and insanely valuable (BPOs), you should buy an Executioner, fit it with a 1MN MWD, a cap recharger, and a pair of Overdrive Injectors or Nanofiber Internal Structures. You can then use this to transport the BPOs very quickly, and with enough agility and speed that nobody really has a chance to hit you...you would have been able to get through the gate long before Theoraden could have even targetted you. -------------------------------------[04:04:04] Tom Thumb > for a nut case you rawk

Concord do show up to protect you, it just happens youve lost your ship before they get there.
You could be standing in a police station, next to a police man, this still does not prevent someone walking in and killing you, it just means they will be caught.
The same in this case. The criminal gets caught and gets punished, concord have done there job.
Oh and PS: Murders occure inside Jails and Military bases too, and you dont find much more heavily guarded than them.

from the game faq's: # 5.4 How are new players protected from others with malicious intent?
New characters enter the EVE world in high security areas of space, heavily guarded by police ships and sentry guns. Zones with lower security levels are more lucrative in terms of being places to find the highest quality items and opportunities, giving players the incentive to venture further out as they gain skill and experience.

Maybe so, but an escort could have put whats left that's valuable in their cargo holds and guarded any cans that they couldn't empty. ----------------------------------- A gun and a packet of sandwiches.

Understandable, but surely the best idea is not putting the target on your face in the first place

CCP have long since abandoned that policy; in fact, they now deny that it ever existed to begin with.
It didn't Nowhere in Eve has ever been safe.
If anything it is safer now than ever.
You have concord. You have sentry guns. You have to lose your ship to concord (you used to be allowed to run away) You can't recycle characters to avoid the sec penalties involved. You don't have cheap, easy to train, uber-firepower frigs (cruise kessies) anymore. (Manticore does not count :P)
You are trying to make it sound like things are worse now for the 'carebear' player, but think it is quite the opposite. If anything it is too safe. People who feel safe are far more likely to make very expensive mistakes, like the OP.

Originally by: Kurai Amaro Why shall i fly 30 jumps though safe space with millions of tons of items twice, if i move though "safe" space??? Where is the declaration of the game, where it says that you are safe in 1.0??? You are not! No bloody space is safe anymore, if this is allowed and you cant travel though 1.0 - 0.9 space anymore? And where is the sense behind it if i get an answer "dont travel all your stuff in one haul"??? Why not ???
Sorry m8, but I do believe that it is "safer" which is different from "safe". It should be clear to every player that there is nothing certain or safe, like in real life where the only certain think is the death that ends it.
If you had such things of great value you should take precautions, like trying to mount a cloak or use a cloaked ship while moving arround with BPOs in the cargo.
Also you could have the corporation you are in to help with this, there are also ships that can carry stuff and move fast or tank for a short time.
I am sorry for your loss but it is clearly your mistake here. Hope you will recover and I think you will, as a 1 + year old EvE player surely must have conections and m8s to help put you back on track. And next time take more care.
Why not - because you just "got" it, thats why.

Yes this tactic is pretty old and well known.
On the bright side, money is pretty easy to make and you didn't lose anything that can't be replaced over a period of time.
Experience and KNOWLEDGE are the real currency of Eve, and you just received a very important lesson.
Eve is a PVP game and you must exercise risk management.
My hat's off to the perps for a well-executed operation.

no part in eve is guaranteed to be 100% safe, not even 1.0!
the sooner you accept that, the faster you are on your feet again and hopefully having fun once more
btw, i can really recommend shooting ppl, it's a lot more fun than shooting at the dumb computer --------------------------- My opinions are my own and not nessecarily those of my corp or alliance.

Originally by: Amaii Templ Sorry, but that's B.S. There needs to be SOMEWHERE in EvE you can be free of paranoia, provided you have taken the simple precautions of not having gotten on someone's kill rights list (check,) and are not in a wardec situation (check.)
Otherwise, it's nothing but anarchy. An empire ganking Should Not Happen. Plain and simple. And I think you'll find something more like 70% of the players agree with me - yes, we're the 70% that resides in Empire. You know, the guys you guys woulden't be able to ride around in Ravens pounding on one another without.
There is no complete safety in Eve. Ever.
There is safER not safe.

It's not like you got stupid and flew through Lowsec in an unsecured Badger. This would be like driving around in front of the primary princinct house in NYC and getting carjacked.
Committing a crime outside of Cop Central should not be rewarding. The GM's answer was B.S.
I hope CCP loses a customer over this. Maybe then they'll start to realize that saying "I hope you recover as quickly as possible" may work when the player is a month old and has just been ganked of a month of stuff, but when they've just been ganked of nearly TWO YEARS worth of stuff...
Sorry. That's B.S.
Agreed 100% This is unacceptable, and the OP's loss reflects poorly on the support system. Now I know the 12 year olds (maturity wise) have some tactics like this in 1.0 space and I'll be extra careful with what appear to be flawed game mechanics.
Guess I'll have to figure what can tank while joe griefer gets his laugh behind the keyboard during Concord's arrival time...
I know pirates who are in their mid thirties and forties.
One of em is a Vice President at a BANK.
This isn't some kiddie game where you skip down the road picking daisies. This is dark gritty future cyberpunk type game, and someone basically got ownt.
Its a game. Sometimes you don't win.

unfortunate to lose that much. I agree with the others who say use transports to haul, the deepspace versions tank like a bs so that's worth it alone, it would take anything too long to shoot ya down(and then you have the option of using mwd as well) ... on the other side there are the blockade runners, speedy little buggers, good enough tank. Seriously if you want to be even safer use them, the normal indy's are wet paper compared to them , otherwhise, high-sec space is not safe space. ------------------------------------------ The ammatar are not the enemy, they are the smoke and mirrors of the amarr. |

what if theft in front of concord units will get you blown up as well? That gives pirates an even smaller margin to gain some thingies in 1.0 space :)

The game was like it was and Zombies found a good way to pirate highsec, tanking the sentrys+concord while smartbombing traffic. Carebear-mass-crying made the GMs do this mistake and CCP lost a lot of reputation in my eyes.
That's simply not true. Ganking ppl in Highsec space was always considered an exploit.
Somehow the policy has changed since I left eve about a year ago.
But good to know. No afk-hauling my stuff anymore.
Btw. that kind of pirating is really lame, but then ppl just don't have any honorable rules they follow - just like in rl. :)

really guys you should get your facts straight... they got banned (be it temp or perma) because (i'll highlight it for you) they didn't do what the GM's told them to do, even after several warnings. complaining about that is like complaining about a parkingticket after the police gave you a warning and a chance to remove your car and avoid it, wich you chose to ignore.... --------------------------- My opinions are my own and not nessecarily those of my corp or alliance.

Perhaps the punishment of criminals needs to be looked at. As others have pointed out, you can stand next to a policeman and still be shot. The deterrent for criminals is the punishment. If the pirate gets blown up and gets his insurance this is wrong. How about they should get jailed? If you attack in high sec space and get blown up by CONCORD then you are 'captured' and your character is suspended from playing for a period of time. When allowed back the character finds himself in his pod in the closest CONCORD station. If you escape without destruction then you 'got away'. Imagine some kind of Smokey and the Bandit police chase!
And as for moving lots of stuff, you could set up courier missions. Let someone else take the risks of moving your gear. If they lose it, you get the collateral that they paid, so it's not a total loss.

ppl, piracy is a vaild career in eve, suspending ppl from playing the game after they did their 'work' is not a solution... heck i would say there isn't even a problem
and no i'm not really a pirate, and i've been a carebear for most of my time in eve (not any more though \o/) but if you remove the piracy element it might aswell have been EvE-Singleplayer.... --------------------------- My opinions are my own and not nessecarily those of my corp or alliance.

1st: your wrong, Lifewire, Avon and me where around when that stuff happened. GMs asked them to stop after some time, Zombie didnt follow and got punished for some days, if you are old enough, you will notice that there are still lots of ex-zombies flying around here.
High sec piracy was always ok, the only thing your not allowed to do is, is to use throw away alts, but that was back in the days of suicide kestrels. Your memory is cheating on you.
RL assumptions based of ingame actions is weak, only shows your not able to get the point of a game. Most pirates have normal jobs in RL, uni students, nurses, lawyers and so on.
