High: 2 x 200mm AC I 1 x Rocket Launcher I (Foxfire ammo) 1 x Nos I
Meds: 1 x 1nM AB 1 x Webber 1 x 7.2km Scrambler
Lows: 1 x small armor rep. 2 x CPR
A lot of the PvP setups I've seen for the Rifter usually use 3 AC's (125, 150, or 200) and 1 rocket launcher (or Nos). I'm wondering how effective this one would be for solo pvping (and perhaps pirating). I've opted for two CPR's over extra armor plating simply for better cap usage. I've tested this out and am able to maintain both scram and webbers in combat (and even the repairer for a reasonably long amount of time). Any thoughts/suggestions on this?

Well you won't be able to tank advantage of the ship bonus with rockets so 3x AC+nos is probably better.

You don't need a webber in a belt.
A cruiser with a webber will kill ya every time. AFs and Inties will giggle. BS will shrug off the damage unless you have support. That NPCer's Torpedoes will kill you in about 3 volleys even running your armor rep fulltime. You might have some luck with Megathrons, Armageddons, or other turret ships with exactly 125m3 of drones.
What kinda targets does that leave? Mining barges. Don't need a webber to take out drones with ACs. Industrials. Here you will need that webber. Other T1 frigs. Precious few of those, and less reason still to try to go after them. Shuttles. You might have an ok shuttle killer with a 20km disruptor.

I've killed a few cruisers in a setup similar to his. If you're right up next to them (500m orbit) they'll still have trouble hitting, especially if you keep your AB running. Plus most NPCers use long range guns. Still very vulnerable to drones, so you'll need to be on your toes and pick those off first.

Edited by: Phish1 on 06/02/2006 10:04:50 This has worked for me in thae past, and i can takea cruiser as long as it doesent have rockets.
Hi: - 2 Rocket launchers (whatever ammo, i carry both foxfire and gremlin) - Nos - Smartbomb (for those pesky drones, gets em good )
Med: - AB - 7.5km scrambler - Tracking distruptor
Low: - Ballistic control - Small armour rep - CPU upgrade (you will need it)
All slots are named or TII of ypu can manage them.
This is over powergrid and CPU of the ship, so you need good skills to get CPU and powergrid up.
Tactics- get in close orbit with AB on, turn on tracking distruptor, they cant hit you with guns. missiles are a problem.
The smartbomb is a great drone killer, i spent a while in galente space, and they used guns allot, so no danger of missiles, adn the drones were allways aproblem untill i got the smartbomb. you can shoot the drones with the rockets, the guy your killing cant hit you most of the time.
EDIT: oh, and a webber still doesent slow you down enough to get you hit if you have the tracking distruptor

But is that extra bonus worth replacing the rockets? Because with rockets you have some pretty decent DPS. I don't have a lot of skills spent on projectile weaponry at the moment, so I'm not sure how much a difference it would make.

This is definatley an interesting setup. I'd like to test it out and see how well it fares.

Probably not useful in belts, however I think it would still be useful near gates/stations in 0.0 space.

Trying something a little different.
My frigate tackler experience in gang combat seems to consist of getting close enough to scramble and then getting webbed, nossed and blown up. So I thought I'd try this:
2x250mm, 2xStandard missile 1xAB, 2x20km disruptor 3xNano
My skills are pretty modest so it's tough to get a set up to fit, but I am pretty happy with this.
It orbits at 12km at over 800m/s and has a good top speed
3 250s and 1 missile would free up some cpu, but my grid is 44/44 so it wouldnt help in my case, better skills will be nice.
The idea is to stay out of the range of some of the nasty nos and webs and running if you are being targeted. Eve is fun. |

You won't have enough cap to run those 20km scramblers. That idea with the tracking disruptor sounds interesting though... ----------------------------------------------- Mercenary minded - I'll fly whatever works best. |

3x small proto autocannons (virtually the same DPS on all kinds) 1x arbalest rocket
1x 7.5km jammer 1x 1mn AB (named) 1x Webber (until I get tracking computers)
2x Gyrostab 2 1x armor rep/emergency damage control
This is my en masse setup, i.e. when my corp and I do frig swarms (no, not the Goon blobs, just 4 or 5 of us who are bored of battleships). As you can see, my fitting relies on me not being the first one targeted ;) ---------------------------- The opinions expressed by Nico do not reflect his corporation. He's just an ass.

Bah, right you are sir.
I can run one for pretty much as long as I please, but 2 are right out. Other stuff that would fit in that slot and not kill the cap:
shield resist 7500 scram remote sensor booster passive targeter ship scanner

Bump.
I use this setup for frig v frig pvp, ratting and fleet ganks.
Hi's 1 x 150mm I with emp (fusion in cargo) 2 x Limos rocket with gremlin (foxfire, thorn and defender in cargo) 1 x small dim Nos
Mid's 1 x Langour webber 1 x Random named +2 scram 1 x AB I (has to be named)
Lo's 1 x 100mm plate (nano i think) 1 x Damage control I (Could be Balistic or gyro, you choose) 1 x small armor repairer II
This setup has served me well - and has the versatility i need, so for me its the best setup i have found, and ive been usng a rifter since my second day playing. All this is with about 1 - 1.5 mill skill points.
I have yet to loose in PVP with it, with the exception of a station camp that went horribly wrong when a 2 year raven warped in :/. I've nailed a Crow and one of the amarr inty's aswell, both with massive skills (2 years on the crow) and also survived the alpha strike of a hound with 40% armor (again 2 years of skills).
give it a try before you knock it. Rifter is probably the best frig in the game for PVP if you set it up right (yes even better than the kestrel as i have proven several times against rocket and missile setups)

Imo the best rifter setup there is goes like this:
3x150mm autos, nos mwd, web/tracking disruptor, scram rep, 200mm plate, gyro
It only fits with mad hax fitting skills so switch 150s for 125s as required (really makes very little dps difference).

Edited by: Maeltstome on 14/08/2006 11:12:07 Dont bother with the MWD unless your passive tanking (which is possible in 1on1 frig pvp)
The 3 150's are really all don to personal preferanc, i use the rocket launchers so i can fire defenders on the way in - and since missiles are the only really long range weapon that can hit something as small as a rifter, they are negated by the defenders. You can hit nearly 1k's with an ab, so why bother with the 500% sig rad bonus on a MWD?

With that scram, I sorta doubt he's talking about NPC cruisers. :) * * * In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

The fit is really tight I have 1/2way decent fitting skills but not even close to maxed. This setup works well for solo and small gang/wolfpack work.
Rifter
125mm Light Prototype I Automatic Cannon 125mm Light Prototype I Automatic Cannon 125mm Light Prototype I Automatic Cannon 'Arbalest' Rocket Launcher I Cold-Gas I Arcjet Thrusters J5b Phased Prototype Warp Inhibitor I Medium Azeotropic Ward Salubrity I
Gyrostabilizer I Power Diagnostic System I Damage Control I
It's somewhat reasonable to put together pricewise. The Medium shield extender can get expensive but thats the lowest CPU one I've found. The ship is right at the ragged edge of fitting. I have less than 1 PG left and less than 2 CPU left, but it works and it works pretty well.

autos + nos or rocket web, scram, mwd or ab 200/400mm plate, repper, EANP/gyro/MAPC/whatever
Disadvantage: Useless against cruisers or BS with webber/nos (except for tackling)
Advantage: Excellent Interceptor-killer if you get them in webbing range (not Blasterranis and Autoclaw though).
Note: You need a ****load of skills and experience to a) fit it, b) be a good pilot in it
PS: Do not fit Damage Controls (pointless-too little structure), Cap Power Relay/Power Diagnostic/Co-proz (wasted low slot)

Unless I completely misunderstand the attributes the damage control adds 7.5% to all shield resistance. 10% to armor resistance and the big 50% to structure resistance. With the little bit of cpu and grid I have left the only 2 real choices I have are Shield power relay, or the Damage Control. Quickfit shows that the relay will add about 2hp/sec to my shield recharge. The way I figure it is if I come up against something that does 100dps that 7.5% will save me 7.5 damage per second on my shields. This will vary some depending on the type of damage done. Even if whatever I'm fighting does only 50dps and is doing a damage type that I have resistance against the Damage Control unit will help atleast as much as a shield relay.

There are Rifter setups, and there is THE Rifter setup. Latter is as follows:
Highslots ------------------------------ 150mm Autocannon x 3 Rocket Launcher
------------------------------ Medslots ------------------------------ Afterburner 7.5km scrambler Small Capacitator Booster
------------------------------ Lowslots ------------------------------ Small Armor Repairer 200mm Plate Damage Control
Now, as always, use named/t2 mods according to budget. A frig will always be vunerable and die easy, so it's up to you how much you want to pimp it.
I prefer using EMP ammo and Phalanx rockets. In the cap booster, I use 150-charges. This keeps your tank going and going and going.
Will wtfbbq pretty much any other frigate, many cruisers (Caracalkiller extraordinaire) and have the survivability against drones to serve well as heavy tackler against bigger ships. I've also spanked Crusaders several times in it.
Speed around 900ms gets you under the targets guns, and orbiting at 500m you should be reasonably safe even webbed.
