Gallente Navy Comet - Patrol design Purpose: The Gallente Navy Comet has similar construction and statistics to the Gallente Tristan. Capable of both anti-frigate and anti-cruiser tactics due to it's large powergrid and versatile slot layout, the Comet is thus able to be fitted to just about any tactical loadout that you enjoy most. The design focuses on maximizing it's survivablity in multiple situations so that the Comet maintains space-superiority even against multiple hostiles. It must be noted that the design recommends both Engineering and Electronics level V, but that is not a requirement if named modules are used.
Highs: 2xLight Ion Blaster I 2xRocket Launcher I 1xSmall Nosferatu I
Reasoning: Blasters were selected instead of rails because of the additional damage against larger targets. While rails would have offered range versatility the Comet has enough speed and armor to spend the few moments getting within blaster range. It should also be noted that the larger signature radius of the Comet, in comparison to most frigates, makes it an easier target when attacked at range and thus a selection of blasters to force you into close-range combat greatly decreases the risk against most cruiser-class turret weaponry. The high tracking of the blasters also makes frigate-to-frigate combat easier, as your will score more successful hits against smaller craft. The rocket launcher is for that boost of additional damage as well as anti-drone defence and the nosferatu is there to help sustain the loadout under heavy capacitor stress. Antimatter Charge S for the powerful damage it delivers. Foxfire Rockets for general usage but Gremlin rockets and Phalanx Rockets in your cargo hold for shield and armor busting rockets, respectivley.
Mediums: 1x1mn Afterburner I 1xStasis Webifier I 1xTarget Painter I (switch for Warp Scrambler I if in PvP)
Reasoning: The AB is for closing purposes and to keep transversal velocity high. A top speed of 603m/s means it isn't blazing fast, but enough to quickly reach your target. With the Stasis Webifier you have the ability to both slow down faster targets and also activate it on a completely seperate target to prevent it from engaging you before your primary is destroyed. The target painter has more of a use than most people realise. After multiple tests I noticed a signifigant increase to blaster damage against the painted target, from both base damage and consistent accuracy. The additional accuracy/damage is something not to be ignored especially when flying in a patrol group. Switching on the painter improves the blaster damage of all gang mates against the target. Like the webber, the painter can be activated on a secondary target that a gangmate may be engaging alone, increasing his damage while you remain focused on the primary.
Lows: 1xSmall Armor Repairer I 1x100mm Reinforced Steel Plate I 1xCapacitor Power Relay 1xMagnetic Field Stabalizer
Reasoning: The small armor repairer is obvious, but the plate may need some explaining. A close-range fighter, such as the Comet, needs a good deal of agility to maintain a high transversal velocity against both large and small targets but still retain some form of closing endurance. A 100mm plate was a perfect combination of both, as the 50mm proved to be ineffective against cruiser-fire and the 200mm proved to both gimp the ship's powergrid and signifigantly reduce ship agility. The relay is for capacitor regeneration and the Magnetic field Stabalizer is an important factor, allowing your blasters to fire faster and harder.
Drone Bay: 1xWarrior Light Scout Drone
Reasoning: High orbital speed and explosive damage makes it a solid drone. ------------------- "It is not the strongest of the species that survive, nor the most intelligent, but the one most responsive to change." - Charles Darwin |

Small note on capacitor (stupid character limitation per post)!
The setup isn't meant to run everything continually. Everything but the armor repairer can be ran in a sustainable fashion so long as the Nos is activated on your target. As soon as your repairer activates you only have five or six cycles before you run dry, so manual capacitor management is important. Consider, if the higher speed is not required during the fight, turning off the AB to give a few more cycles to the armor repairer.
Also know that your capacitor is going to VERY quickly regenerate. So while you may be close to empty capacitor after repairing your ship, it's going to skyrocket back up to a norma level of capacitor. Use that and consider setting your repairer to manual. ------------------- "It is not the strongest of the species that survive, nor the most intelligent, but the one most responsive to change." - Charles Darwin |

You can't take a ship that costs millions and millions of ISK then gimp it with T1 fittings!
That is like saying, "You have now bought your first lambergini. It is very fast, survivable, and versitile. Let me help you fit it!"

Because I bought it in the first place, I can really do whatever I want with it.
But no, fit whatever you wish on it. I always post tech 1 setups because that gives people an idea of base ship capability, knowing that using named items or t2 items pushes the ship even further. Why should I post t2 setups and give people the impression that my tactics can only work with t2 gear? My tactics as a pilot make or break my ship, with modules only being a side benefit of improvement.
Use t2 or named as you wish. My comet is loaded with over 45m isk worth of named modules, but that doesn't mean it's required for people to understand the purpose of the ship. ------------------- "It is not the strongest of the species that survive, nor the most intelligent, but the one most responsive to change." - Charles Darwin |

I'd take the Ares over the Taranis anyday.
And save the "Get a ..." for a different thread. This is a thread about the comet and how to use it, not a car dealership. ------------------- "It is not the strongest of the species that survive, nor the most intelligent, but the one most responsive to change." - Charles Darwin |

I didn't realise there was only one ship in the game that mattered for each role.
In fact, there are so many useless ships that everyone should have the exact same tastes as you. Let's all fly the same ship and ignore visual style, preference of combat style, and make only one Race avaliable in EVE.
I've seen your posts and they are neither helpful, inventive, constructive, and continually reside in a "I'm a troll, my way or the highway." Please, find a different thread. You seem to be missing the point, as always. Some people in this game don't have a problem with ISK and therefore can afford to purchase other ship types. Some for fun and lesiure, some for action and warfare. I've purchased the comet for both.
And a taranis wouldn't suit the role I'm looking for in the first place. If you are against people enjoying other ship types and find it horrible that the setups they mentione for these fun ships work, or if you are simply upset because you lack the ISK to enjoy the game, take it elsewhere. ------------------- "It is not the strongest of the species that survive, nor the most intelligent, but the one most responsive to change." - Charles Darwin |

Okay, requesting a thread lock mods. As always, Kil loves to take a thread and completely run it off point. I'd rather people read it than allow Kil to attempt and flex his intellectual superiority in another mistimed way. ------------------- "It is not the strongest of the species that survive, nor the most intelligent, but the one most responsive to change." - Charles Darwin |

You're aware alot of people share that opinion too? It's not because you have the isk to fly a worthless piece of crap like the comet that it's worth flying over another ship that cost less and is made for it.
When it pops, it's still another ****ty frigate.

Seems like a bit of an odd use for a fleet issue type frigate, but to each his own. As you pointed out it is your ISK.
To anyone else looking at this thread for a more practical ship fitting... Drop the Nos and the plate and it should kit out a Tristan fairly well.

Stop being Elitist and go make your own thread. You are just trolling here.
I thought it was a nicely written setup for the Comet, and as a newbie, I am sick of seeing Tech II splattered accross all the ship setups on these forums. Some of us haven't been playing this game for nigh on 3 years....

Nice setup, but :
1) How do you manage to fit 5 turrets/launchers on a four highslots ship ? (drop the NOS)
2) Why use a 60+ millions ship when you could use a Tristan with the same bonii, only one less low slot, and a cost under 300K ? (drop the Plate or the Mag Stab)
Yes, I know, the Comet has 150% of the shield, armor and structure of the Tristan, but it's worth 200 times more and it's still a T1 frig with low resistances ...

Edited by: Toy on 12/02/2006 14:54:46 I didn't mean to start a troll fest.
What I want to see is the faction frigs fitted out with T2 gear, then an estimate of their capabilities.
On a side note, the main problem is the agent offers in the first place.
These faction frigs should be offered for 10000LP with no strings attached, and then at multiples of 10000 with no ISK requirement.
Next, considering the 1000 possible balanced bonuses, why can't these frigs all be made unique... I mean a taranis, a comet, a tristan... and the difference is there, but they are just various upgrades of the same template!
Surely such a genius, creative staff as at CCP (and I mean that sincerely) can fix these faction frigs a bit more... |

As you can only find those from Agent Offers, and as those offers ask for 50 millions (or 50 millions in tags) per ship/run on a BPC, I really don't think they'll ever go below the 60 millions mark ... and that is not a nice price, IMHO.
Yes, that setup is nice, with the exception of fitting FIVE weapon systems on a FOUR highslots ship, but you can do everything it does with a Tristan for 1/200th of the price.

Edited by: Halunoto Vankaalen on 12/02/2006 19:15:06 I like this thread, it's good to see somebody using their imagination and flying more faction ships around, and that some people aren't obsessed on whether it has "uber 1337 pwnage" attributes.
He wants to talk about the Comet, not a Taranis or any of it's variants. A Comet. That so hard to understand for many of you?
Seems like you've got a solid setup there, but I'd definately go for named if not T2. I'm planning to purchase a Hookbill in the future, so threads like these are an encouragement.

I bought a Hookbill.
Fitted it with 150mm T2s and Arbalest Standard Launcher (no T2 missiles yet), a classical T2 shield tank and some Magnetic Stabilizers T2.
Did a few level 1 and 2 missions with it, and a bit of NPCing in belts in 0.8~0.5 security with it.
Nice ship.
Then I docked it, stripped the fitting, and used a good old Merlin with the exact same setup. The Merlin was better.
Someday, I'll buy or try to get the offers for the "Navy Frigs" I'm still missing, but only because they are collectors, you can do almost everything they do with standard Tech 1 frigates for 1/200th of the price.
Oh, and that still leaves a point I'm trying to make in this thread : you cannot fit 2 Blasters, 2 Rocket Launchers AND a Nosferatu on a FOUR HIGHSLOTS ship.

What is wrong with you? It takes a week to get tech 2 small guns, and much less than that for most tech 2 frigate-sized mods.

The additional rocket launcher was a typo.
Jesus christ people, chill the **** out. I know the Taranis would do a better job, but this thread isn't about a tackler. I'm so sick and ******* tired of people forgetting how to enjoy the game and flying some ships just for fun. Math and efficiency is great, it wins battles. But when someone purchases a ship for fun and then decides to kit it out for fun, shut the hell up about "use blah ship".
I have a taranis. I like the Taranis. I have a comet and this is the COMET thread. It doesn't have a scrambler because it isn't meant to be used in real PvP. Does everything in your life have to have a ******* point? Has everyone really forgot about what "fun" is aside from continual PvP?
This is a game, and damnit I'm sick and tired of people trying to turn it into something else. ------------------- "It is not the strongest of the species that survive, nor the most intelligent, but the one most responsive to change." - Charles Darwin |

Then please accept my apologies.
I still find the price tag on those Faction Frigates way too high for them to have a practical use (apart from being nice and shiny in a hangar), but if you find some fun in piloting those ships, that's good, since we play a game where the point is to have fun.
