if hardware memory is an issue and u have a large hard drive implement 2GB as virtual memory that solves a lot of the memory leak issues before this next patch as well as other running issues

Not a problem for me. It reaches 100% of course; most games use a lot of CPU and Eve is very CPU-bound. But it works perfectly, and if I alt-tab and run something else, there is no noticeable slowdown.
On my laptop, Eve doesn't even use up 100% CPU. Yay for dual core centrinos! :-)

LOL yeah, that's the one. Too many probs with home built PC so got fed up and went to PC World. Advent T9404. If I leave EVE running and go downstairs for some grub I can tell if I get disconnected from EVE as the ceiling stops shaking when my fan slows

I have a P4 550 that runs at 3.4Ghz with a radeon X800XT and while I can't comment on my CPU usage (I've never checked and I'm lazy), I CAN comment on the fact that if I run EVE on fullscreen, my computer rapidly overheats and crashes. I don't have any specific temperatures for fullscreen, but when I run EVE windowed (no sound, turret effects off) CPU temperatures are reported to rise from around 40C to 80C+. I'm not sure of the desired temps for a P4, but.. that seems a little high? 
I do have the stock fan, but after a great deal of research it appears that I'd have to spend upwards of ú50 in order to get one with significant improvement and that impinges on beer money.
I'm glad I'm not the only one that suffers from EVE overheating; I've never experienced it on other games, e.g. HL2, F.E.A.R. etc. I don't lonely anymore...
Meh. It doesn't stop EVE from being teh rox0rs.

I run a second account on eve on a 3 yr old computer. Spec is xp 1700 768mb 266 ddr memory
and an old ge force 2 64mb graphics card and a shared broadband connection with my other character. The graphics cards fan packed in about 6 months ago yet everything runs just fine. i run it full windowed and it will run all day and night np. I have always built my own pc,s since the pentium 100. Message here is: 'if you want a good build'...ask me:)

That's because EVE uses less CPU when not the active window, as do all windows programs IIRC.
Yes but it is also apperent that EVE can got good fps (I still hve 40-50 fps when the window is not active) with low cpu usage IF they wanted to make the game as such. Maybe include a max fps option you can set for those that have heat problems (and no I don't consider the present interval options as useful for this.).

You people act like it's a bad thing to have your CPU running at 100%. It's not going to get tired... It is designed to run at 100% efficiency at all times. When it's not being run at 100% then the system sendles idle bits (Trash data) through it to keep it occupied.
Under heavy load the CPU's temperature might increase a few degrees, but that's the only real danger. If you have a halfway decent heatsink and haven't carpeted the inside of your case, (You laugh, but I've seen it!) then you're fine.

Indeed you should be able to run your whole box (CPU/RAM/GPU/HD) at full tilt 24/7 with out over heating.
It might be beeping cause you are taxing the powersupply. Check what alarms you have set in your BIOS. The "wattage" listed on you powersupply is basicly meaning less. If you don't know what to look for amperage wise in a powersupply the best next thing to look for is wieght. You should easily be able to turn some ones head inside out with it.
If you dont have any thing overclocked or exotic you should be able to run with three fans. CPU, GPU, and power supply.
I'm running a 2.6 gHz P4 clocked at 3 gHz with the RETAIL cooler that came in the box with it... if your CPU cooling looks cool it proably sucks. I've also had quite a few boxes come across my bench lately with over heating problems because the heatsink lifts off the cpu just a hair when the case is upright. This cause the damn things are too tall and heavy.
733t looking 100% copper CPU cooler ... $90
Labor to replace it with something that works... $89
Cheap ass aluminum cooler from Taiwan... $15
Seeing the look on the customers face... priceless

EVE didn't use to sit at 100% usage all the time like it does now. In my case it hits solid 100% usage pretty quick, usually after it eats up most of my ram.
I think the ram usage is the real problem right now. After eve eats up most, or all, of your ram it then consumes everything and your comp just starts eating ****.

I've played Eve on my 2.4GHz 1GB RAM machine and it's pegged to 100% as well.
I've played Eve on a Duel 2.4GHz Xeon w/2GB of RAM poweredge server and it proced the processor to 100%. Eve assumes all CPU that's available. If something else needs it, it will provide it but if it's not being used, Eve sucks it up for it's own resources.
I guess it's the way the game was made.
There are a few applications on the web that won't allow a single application to take all of the available processor. I know I used EQPlayNice when I was playing EverQuest.

i run a lot of stuff at the same time as eve 
it all runs good speeds, except videos are a bit jumpy
and my eve idles at 55-65% CPU use on my AMD 64bit 3400+ (ú100 worth of processor almost a year ago, socket 754)
i'm in window mode, for what thats worth
