Since this is a hardware upgrade, there is no need for a client-side patch, nor any changes to the Eve server code that will require patch notes. The 'old' stuff will be used by CCP, so you can't have it.

By recommending a long skill, I mean something that won't complete training on Wednesday at 0800 when we are estimating a return to service. Give it a day or three longer than that just to be sure.

Talk about a stressful week, I want to see pictures from the after-party when you all go nuts and release stress in various weird ways ;)

Rumour has it they'll be sacrificing the old hamsters, to the hardware gods, for a long, prosperous and lag free cluster.

Oveur mentioned in a previous forum post (I can't find it right now) that the old hamsters would be retired to a cozy nest, watch gladiator movies all day and be used as an escort service from time to time.

In any case, they have served us long and faithfully. I think they deserve better than to be sacrificed.

Best of luck with the server upgrade. Hope it goes well and kicks EVE's lag right in the ass.

As a side note, will you be sacrificing any attractive female interns to the Great God Murphy to ensure success of the cluster swap? And will you be taking pics?

At the risk of sounding cynical here (beleive me I was never a cynic till I started playing EVE), Lets assume the worse and that the upgrade goes over schedule and that we cannot connect for 3 or 4 days. before you all start shouting at me, tell me 1 patch, upgrade that has been done over the last 3 years that has gone to schedule!
Anyway assuming that this is the case are CCP still going to charge us for a full month?

If not then it is a little like paying for a full season ticket for your football club only to be told that there are some matches that you cannot go to even though you have paid in advance for them

No its more like paying for full season tickets 5 or 6 seasons ago and getting to use them year after year with the occasional delayed game here and there. Seriously, free upgrade to improve our gameplay and then another free patch a week later.

I got a few months of training to do packed into maybe 3-5 skills, so its not like I don't have anything to train

I volunteer my basement as storage for the old hardware. Its big down here, and I need more warmth

Nuthing. This is client side patch for people experiencing problems with Dual core processors. To make EvE run properly it load balances between both cores, instead of maxing 1 Processor. P.S. If windows detects you have more than 1 Processor (core) dont worry about it.

Nope. No 64bit client as yet. Hopefully this will change. But all data is transfered to & from server in simple coding anyway. No 64bit transfers in networks yet.

Anyways... Good luck on the hardware upgrades guys!!

Not noticed much lag where I am. Just hope you fix the client a bit.

i thought it was said the old server equipment would supplement the RAMDAN to run the database requiremetns ie market - cargo holds all the database requests that would help improve performance there to - so can we look forward to some new systems or jove systems opening up perhaps.

Congratulations to CCP. Being a flagship installation for IBM running a MMORPG is a serious win. This kit wouldnt be out of place in a large multinational.
