Just wondering how many of us old Eve farts are still around playing?
Date of Birth: 2006.11.03 01:49:00
Show your age to these youngings nowadays.
Back in my day.....
We didn't have warp to 0. We had to set our alarmclocks to change skills, cause we didn't have a skill queue. DUST bunnies were the things that collected in the back of your monitor. boot.ini
To those of us still around after seven years I salute you O7

Although the account is six years old. Well ...... I suppose you could be a honorary member in training :) But we can't teach you the secret handshake. Also, if you haven't been active for the entire time there may be a few inside jokes and things you may not be privy to.

Lol.
I too am a 7 year old toon, however I have taken numerous breaks from EVE.
That said, I remember BoB, t20, he whose name cannot be spoken, T2 BPOs, CCP Tuxford, Burn Jita, boot.ini, the sorely missed warp to 15k (although I do not miss the infinite bookmarks of doom), etc.
And through it all, Caldari ships have been **** in pvp. |

Took me 3 weeks to buy my first combat frigate and I lost it on Worlds Collide L1 after being able to survive the 1st encounter with an actual pirate (player) in low sec with only 5% hull left - I still have his Char on my contacts list.

This was a second account though, may have to fire up my first account and check the main on that one, which was a miner/industrialist that i stopped playing years ago. That toon predates this one by several months, which would put it sometime in the summer of 2004 me thinks.

And I have had this Toon for 7 years on the 23.11.2013
And I have been active all the way through the past 7 years with this Toon.
Did not stop playing EvE or had taken any breaks.
CCP you have one dedicated player who has seen the game changed over the years.
Yes I do remember the boot.ini saga but that did not affect me as I waited for CCP to fix it and after the fix I downloaded the fixed patch file.
Well hope the Future of EvE will be more interesting :) I am not a CCP employee-ájust having a input in the EvE forum

I have started playing Decembre, 27th 2003, gave away the char i started with in 2005. I was young and did ragequit, due to some really annoying bugs, that got some expansive ships killed and not many of them were reimbursed. And came back 2 month later, because all other games seemed to be kinda boring and restrictive after experiencing the freedom in eve :).
If you check this char you will see it is just 2 days old. I am just not posting with my main, because I do not want people to know that i am active these days. Basically taking a break from alliance business :).
The thing i remember most about the old days is how much harder it was to make ISK and that losing something like a battleship could actually hurt your wallet, not even speaking of how long it took to make the money for a ship like that.
Ships and weapons were extremly unbalanced. My favorite solo ship was the scorpion (before missiles had the explosion radius and explosion velocity attribute and dealt full damage to any target they reached. Also jammers were a lot more efficient and had shoter cycle times, was a nice ship to kill small gangs solo :).
We only had frigs, cruisers, battleships, shuttles and industrial ships. Most ppl only had 1 account and mining in high sec was a group activity. (Stopped mining the day i got my Scorpion and the insurance together and turned to the dark side).
More than 20 ppl in a fleet was a quite big fleet :). In EU prime time having 2.5k players online was a lot :).
Ships bumping each other at insance speeds sometimes when "gang warping" (fleets were called gangs at that time).
T2 BPO lottery.
Well.. i am gonna stop here.... if i would give you a complete list of things that were different I guess i will run out |

My "way back when" stories included:
Trying to be part of "Big Blue". Thinking Bob really was going to own all of Eve. Being amazed at seeing a Battleship for the first time, Knowing you couldn't perma-camp a gate. Seeing the first successful gate snipers that made gates start to seem like false security. Being able to buy almost anything from NPCs. Thinking that ganking NPC comvoys was amazing isks! Thinking making trade runs of stuff like tobacco was a good living. Being in the goons when they first became an alliance and really seeing what being at war was like and thinking how awesome giant fleets of frigates could be. Having just flying around to see all the tourist destinations CCP had built into the 'verse.

Sadly, I've only been active for ~40 of those 91 months (although I've been subbed for significantly more) so I don't qualify for the club (tragic). However momentum from my heyday means I'm still ranked #19 on the forums according to eve-search. First trial char back in late 2005: Terpentin. Login data lost though. Started actually playing in early 2006 and paused about half a year in between until now. It was some good video clips and missing the corpmates that dragged me back in.
In '06 I remember quickly moving to a nice 0.3 system to be with rl friends. In the beginning there were about 15 ppl in local. The numbers rose up to typical 60+ in the years after. Nowadays on my visits it's pretty much dead with 5 tops, and even those tend not to stay for more than a couple of minutes. Kind of a sad state somehow.
Lately I feel like being on the brink of becoming a bittervet. What strongly irks me is that newbies seem to get more and more suspicious to helping or even socializing attempts. As if they were to get a better placing on some highscore somewhere if they manage to play for themselves. Also I'm beginning to be afraid CCP is going to change too much too fast. You think you know stuff and then you get told by someone else: Nope, you're wrong - they changed that last week. Wait? That too? What about my 120 tested and approved outfitted ships yet again?
Uh oh rambling.. |

I remember the weekend before warp to zero went live. The entire server lagged as bm's were furiously copied; 0.0 alliances were afraid that the warp changes would be rolled back. And as with most significant changes, wtz was going to be the "end of Eve as we know it" as Eve transitioned into a theme park mmo.

LOL.
As if forcing a 15KM gauntlet run for noobs who didn't get their BMs yet so they can be ganked meant something. When I see people harken back to such days as the "glory days of PVP" they failed an intelligence test with me.
Of course back in those days noobs didn't get popped so much. I used to fly my velator through Amamake and only got mildly harassed.
Maybe if people didn't noob-harvest so much we would not have WTZ? |

Nothing causes more tears in Eve than removing easy kills. WTZ was a godsend; bm sets were extremely expensive, virtually impossible to verify, and caused lag. It also halved travel time. But it removed gatecamp ez mode so of course the crying was loud and often. |

Played last two weeks of Beta and the day they bumped everyone skills ups before the game went live to test out Battleships. I undocked, panned the camera for 1 minute and redocked because I was late for work.
I mined in a probe for 2 months straight because I refused to go Gallente like the rest of Corporation. (We had one of the first 10 Megathron BPO's ever bought) Finally they felt bad and placed me a Rupture.
When they gave me my first Tempest, I past out ratting in a 0.7 belt due to all the mining hours before and woke up to find Signatar in an egg. That did not go well with my Corp.
I remember mining Arkonor and Bistot in Empire until they changed Roid Spawns. (0.0 had roid field to warp to but were basically place holders until the developers could start working on that part of the game.)
I remember it took 40-60 jumps just to go from one side of a region to the other (Molden Heath) and no warp to 0.
I remember roaming with B.O.S.S and Curse Alliance before there were in-game alliance mechanics.
