Been watching this post. Some nice posts.Nice read jasmine.Brought pack some memorys.
Odet, This is Tankuk.I was in Venal from the first days of VA up to PA. What happend is while i was heading out of venal i ran into m0O. I turned around quickly as they chased me back into Venal as i was surely out numberd. While running back..boy did i run! :) I setup a trap with the rest. They jumped into a trap in 6nj8 and they had to retreat into he stations. Bit of smack went on and they left running. So it was the truth. I do know what im talking about being in the first corp in VA with OCC and others then with NVA , PA . Was fun times.

omg I actually remember that! I was a week old noob at the time. It was just about the point that JF joined the original VA pirate alliance and space invaders and friends bashed up a moo fleet that tried to come up. He's talking about a long long time ago Odet. Back before the first VA vs FA war even, and before Ragnar's magic hat. I was still flying a tristran and trying to npc .5 system belt rats to pay for a thorax
Hiyah Tankuk!

Considering the three of the integral parts of the GNW, being there right from the start, I don't see why this is amusing.
I'm glad that the both sides involved can look back on those times with interest rather than hate.

Sorry but that is an irrelevance, it is called the Great Northern War. World War II did not in fact involve the whole world, its is called that name all the same. Its how histroy has come to pass. I suspect if the war you mentioned was anywhere near as interesting as the GNW, perhaps its story need to be told better.. plus a snappy name helps.
Prof. Isidor Sek Editor Tranquility Times
It sort of on differing points.
The Great Northern War has all the characteristics of hate, politics and pure complexity to drive it as an interesting story.
The SA/CA War(Great Southern War?) involved the powerhouses of EVE duking it out, introducing the use of some the newest features introduced in the EXODUS. Essentially it involved the death of one of the greatest and most powerful alliances, the Curse Alliance, and stretched unto the defeat of one of the most populated alliances, the Xetic Federation.
To be honest I dont understand why we dont see as many 'Remember the SA/CA war'. As much as we see the 'Remember the Great Northern War'. To bring up another matter, as Jasmine pointed out on several accounts, the GNW pretty much contributed to the creation of many of the largest entities in EVE today. But the SA/CA war destroyed all the large powerful entities of the past.
And yes, I find some fault in Jasmine's post mentioning the creation of the F-E(mk4) alliance, as a reincarnation of UNICOR, and the death of CA having anything significant to do with the GNW.
But the SA/CA war and the GNW were both very large wars(by sheer numbers the SA/CA war was bigger) and it is hard to actively compare the two without a biased viewpoint. --------

Just to make a couple of clarifications - I've actually editted some of the material in regard to the FE version 4 on feedback from people that know more about that situation than I do. Also, I wasn't saying the GNW killed CA, so much as the GNW saw something of the last great ride of the CA before it collapsed and died for entirely separate reasons. Before the dust had settled on the GNW CA had fallen apart and Foyle had reestablished herself with FOE in the north and other CA luminaries had split off to Imperium in the West. Hope this explains things ...

Edited by: Lucian Alucard on 26/02/2006 22:42:30 As much fun as GNW was there will never be another one quite like it the entire political dynamic of the game has changed where in the past the player base was balanced and people actually were intrested in peace, now its back room politics manuvering and biding your time til you can screw someone to get ahead, war is the name of the game. Being set to -10 two years ago meant something now its just a clerical matter.
And the majority of the old guys from gnw are on good terms with eachother now ((well cept me an Halseth, everyone needs a arch-enemy )), thenew conflict is uninspiring only intresting thing is IRONs new stance to politics.
Bad sequels Ftl Tbh

It is so not a remake of unicor. It's got a few different corps from many old alliances. In no way does it resemble any of them.
you missed the mark here jasmine, FE is nothing like UNICOR, it only has some of the UNICOR corps in it. Try again.

Word.
So now I'm the enemy... .. . . Ok. fair enough.
Ah well. I shouldn't say anything really. I'm just as keen to post in GNW treads. You can say what you want about the SA vs CA bit but GNW was an Eve changer. Post and pre really isn't the same. However. I was very much a noob at the time. And I got to say not a very clever noob neither. (hehe. not much changed there tbh.)
What I miss however though is the grand scheme of the alliances. The damn big battles. And the heart pumping. I will never forget that. What is worring though it that pvping alliances is losing out to isk alliances. There are so few who manage to do bought sucessfully these days. Being in a small corp that kills more ppl than many alliances does I feel this is very much the case. I feel gangs like us is loosing out in the grand scheme of things. Hard core small alliances cannot keep up the isk sink required to do the stupid wars some of these alliance do. Where you go in and lose massive ammount of ships and gear. And you still only got a small dent overall. Sometimes I wonder if we're going back to the pre GNW era. Where only the gathering of huge ammounts of players are the way to win.
I'll idmit that it's somewhat of a double standard. One where I really want to see the big battles again and one where I want to continue my ability to do damage as a small gang member. I remember one fight where bob jumped in on the nsa fleet in LEK. We had that damn system locked down hard whit 3-4 bubbles. And atleast twice the ammount of bob. The hacs jumped in and totally mullered us. By the time the bs's jumped in it was really all over. Today you'll be damn hard pressed to pull something like that off. Since then I have hated dual ab hacs/cruisers. But it gave me the insight to see what a small bunch of very good pvpers could do. Since then I've always dedicated myself towards pvp. What I feel now however is that your very hard pressed to preform anything close to that. And I don't think it's possible. Here the other week we (CI) moved towards d7 and FE home systems to get some cheep kills and maybe a fight. And not camping long FE gathered twice our number. We at the time had 12-15 bs and 2-3 frigs. Given though the management was somewhat lacking and we whould never such setup as a pure sas gang. No offence to E-R or Cartiff. But that gang was a disaster.
However I realised quick though. That the idea was stupid from the time we left m-o. F-E brought out nearly more scorps than we had bs. And of course nearly our entire fleet got jammed and the rest is history. Losing 6 bs is not a daily occurance in my corp. (given though we only lost 1 in sas, bud you noob) In fact I cannot remember the last time we lost 6 bs to anyone as long as I've been in sas, from gangs we have runned, be it in alliance or what ever. It also leads me to think that times are changing. And lets be honnest. F-E isn't exactly know for their uber pvp skills. But rather their numbers. There is very few in there I whould rate first class. And then there is the matter of capital ships. Which is totally useless in small agile pvp gangs like ours. But fairly easily dropped into the realms of greater alliances. My thoughs

See the intresting things about GNW is it at least politically split Eve in two temporarily, you had NCA/m0ovolution/Sa/FA/CFS/XF vs. PA/TPS/CA/JQA,the name Great Northern War is really a misnomer since there were corps from the south comming north and raiding and there were corps from the north heading south,it was in all honesty a galactic slug fest that really could only be toped by a second Armageddon Day tbh, gives us all 15 bil,50 mil sp to play with on top of what they already got and drop EVERY system in eves' sec rating to 0.0 for a week, but thats my opinion.

12 months of mindnumbing relentless Fighting.
TWD cruising around in a dual MWD Maller, Splatting everything that came his way, Shrike in an UBER Bommer geddon popping ships for a passtime. and that Ever so boring fight for BKG, Its a Hole BKG, it was never worth fighting for, yet someone always said lets take the station.
BoB owned it during the Day PA Owned it my night for about 2 hours and so on and so forth.
the fighting preceding that was much more fun, I was in Biomass Cartel during the great northern war, and that was real fun.
