As promised SNIGG has now delivered to the players of eve a peek of what a battle fighting 3 dreads and a bunch of battleships looks like. This is the thread for discusions about the battle. This could be footage of the most amount of isk being lost by any group in one engagement.
At the end of the battle the kill count was: (in order of kill mail time)
SNIGG killed Raven - battleship Dominix - battleship Phoenix - dreadnought Moros - dreadnought Revelation - dreadnought Apocalypse - battleship Capsule - uhm capsule
Vogon Deconstruction Fleet killed Megathron - battleship Helios - covert ops
A little bit of info when trying to kill a dread with a battleship, you will get stuck on the dread if you try to orbit it too close. Then die really quick when you are sitting still. Kinda funny way to loose a battleship by getting stuck on a dread. But hey what are you going to do.
The original thread about this battle a little while ago ended in flames and a lock. To not let that happen to this one please keep the smack out of this thread.
If a certain person starts it up again mods please leave the thread open and just "snip" them please.
Thanks to the brave Sniggles that took the time to turn on fraps during a battle that could have killed them for doing so.
www.eve-pirate.com is hosting this file for us so go check them out.

Thats pretty damm good. Ive never actually firsed on a dread before, must be alot of fun!
As to the vid; I liked the editing, but at the same time I didnt (yeah im cookoo), there is just something about it that doesnt seem right, but yet again it adds alot to what would be a boring vid of missile and turret spamming.

The chunk of video in the middle is actually 19 minutes long regular speed. I sped it up or no one would have sat and watched the whole thing. It was a really long battle taking down just the 3 dreads. Capital armor reps give back an unbelievable amount of armor per cycle.
Really the whole idea was to take over as many minutes of people lives as i could. The goal was for them to watch it twice. Thats 10 minutes of you life. HAHAHAHA, it just shows that I do have superhuman powers that allows me to waste 5 to 10 minutes of peoples lives I always knew I was superhuman

A dread is safe in a blob, yes. But 5 BS vs 5 dread...who will win??? The 5 dreads hit $hit while the 5 BS - if propper fitted sink 1 dread after the other. And it doesnt not mather what pilot sits inside i guess. Believe me: a dread is useless without a fleet to cover it and the SNIGGS show this here. Dreads are prenerfed and should not be used without carriers, BS support, webber HACs and a recon team.

Unfortunately, many of you here running your lips are quite ignorant of the circumstances in which this transpired, and are forming your opinion based on facts you yourself have fibritated. This video only depicts one aspect of the fight; the only aspect that really matters - the killing of the dreadnaughts. If it weren't for the shot at three juicy dreads, snigg never would have shown up. As such, this video is not of VGND vs SNIGG, it's of SNIGG killing three dreads.
To fill the rest of you in on what actually happened, we(VGND) were tipped off to possibility of Ginger Magician running a POS in the area of Lermireve. Further inspection (you don't simply ignore information this good!) revealed Ginger not only ran a POS in Lermireve, but a network of POS (consisting of 2 small and 1 large tower). After much deliberation (more like Guy 1: "These POS belong to Ginger Magician"; Guy 2: "Lets blow them up!"; Everyone else: "Okay!"), we set a scheduled a time to commence operations.
The day before the operation, we started moving our stronthium into system, right under Ginger's nose - infact, he tried chasing around one of our haulers to no avail a time or two(this alone made the operation worth it imho.) The final count for our forces were 16 pilots; 3 Dreadnaught pilots and 13 battleship support pilots(that's roughly 4 BS support for each dread, for those of you who have difficulty with maths.) This was the first time we'd used all three dreadnaughts at once, and I must say - they are incredible one you get a couple going. We were able to take all three of Ginger's POSes into reinforced mode in roughly 2 hours!
The next day we return as each of the POS exit reinforced mode. The first small falls to a Moros with 2 BS support; also during the engagement there was one rather expensively fitted Megathron lost on behalf of mr Ginger Magician. The second, two hours later goes down, again only the Moros but this time with more BS support. Finally, the third and final tower, the large, comes out of reinforced mode. I think the showing for this was a little disappointing, I beleive we only had something to the tune of 9 pilots (3 Dreads, 6 BS) due to several of our pilots having other real life obligations to attend to. However, we proceeded all the same.
Shortly after we had commenced the seige, SNIGG start filling up local. After a quick discussion on TS, we decide to leave the dreads in seige mode and fight tooth and nail; they will never be able to make it out of seige mode in time to warp out, they are unable to use their jump drives when warp scrambled, and just may be able, granted a long shot, might be able to hold out long enough to peel off enough of the attacking support ships to force SNIGG to retreat. This was of course assuming the tower would also attack the SNIGG pilots.
Ultimately, we had no such luck. We were quite simply outclassed by SNIGG. Not only did SNIGG have us outnumbered (our 9 vs their 13), but they also had the POS guns on their side as Ginger had set SNIGG to positive standing after they agreed to his pleas to bail him out. Meanwhile, our support ships were set up in a quite funky, but effective (for POS tanking purposes, anyway) fashion that put us at a real disadvantage for actual combat.
In addition, while the tanks on these things(the dreads) are absolutely incredible, SNIGG came prepared with a dread's worst nighmare: engery vampires and neutralizers. Jamming our support ships, they were easily able destroy the cap of each of our dreads' effectively rendering one after another 1.5bn paper weights.
There was virtually no other possible outcome given the situation. We once again send grats out to SNIGG for fielding a rock solid offensive strike. We just wished you would have waited another 35 minutes or so and swooped in as Ginger's tower blew up in a glorious display of fireworks!
This is not, in any shape or form, a flame of SNIGG although... [char limit ]

Edited by: Mesasone on 03/03/2006 04:51:14 ...just a few closing comments I couldn't fit in due to the char limit.
This is not, in any shape or form, a flame of SNIGG although I have little doubt that some will try to interperate it as such. I am simply putting forth my account of the rest of the engagement, as I hope it will not only provide a good read, but quell the comments of the blissfully ignorant (ZOMG u shudnt be flyin dredz!!1). Other participants from either side feel free to make any additions.
And, to the poster(lifewire) who displayed his disappointment of dread's performance and feels they have come pre-nerfed: I must say, that I feel it is quite the opposite. The perform incredibly well at what they are designed to do: seige starbases. They seem to be much, much more effective with more than one dreadnaught; two was nice, but three performed well above my expectations. Additionally, in the video the dreads are in seige mode, which accounts for their poor performance against battleships orbiting them at 5km. You can against Ginger about his encounter with our Moros in this rather expensively fitted megathron at his first tower, if you are curious about out of seige performance.

What Mesa said :D Dreads are siege machines, not super-battleships. With thre uses, large fleet support and POS removal and station capturing.
That movie reminds me so much of taking out trebuchets with calvarly in Rome: Total War.

LOL.Nice vid. Keep making excuses vogon. You screwed up and it has cost u very dear.Your corp is in tatters and significant numbers have left since this happened as well as the ongoing empire war against me. One point I would like to make is that I believe vogon only found out about my poses because a few days beforehand I actually had 4 pos in that system and was taking down one when one final module refused to unanchor and I had to ask for GM assistance. The GM took down the pos for me and there was only 3 left when vogon attacked. However as I know that most GMS have player accounts I cant help but wonder if this guy was a member of Vogon or otherwise informed people as to the location of my poses. This is obviously a cause for concern but to be honest the 2 small pos had paid for themselves during the time I had been running them and my losses were insignificant compared with the massive ones incurred by vogon and the enormous enjoyment of being there to watch the dreads go pop.

I did not doubt that dreads are good at sieging starbases, but in fleet battles they are pretty useless big targets. We now have 3 dreads too and i feel quite unsafe with these ships. Dreads can be compared to war machines of the middle age like catapults: expensive to built and good at destroying a castles wall. The difference is: a catapult is also usefull in a field battle once it is set up. About a dread i am not sure if it will be of use. I really think without webber+painter support ships, dreads are next to be useless (in fleetbattles). However, thank you for letting the community participate in your experiences.

W-hat?
Ginger, since you have war decced us, we have only seen you a hand full of times. And, of those times, only once have you actually come out and fought. And, the one time you didnt sit, cowering in a station, you ended up pouting and smacking in local because you couldnt kill our one of ravens. Funny what happens when you're not shooting newbie ships, huh!?
Also, Ginger, we have not lost a single member since your little war dec has been in place for I dont know how long now. I dont know what fantasy world you live in where you know the status of our members and wallet better than we do, but I guess you can keep living there for all I care.
The rest of your message is so rediculous, I'm not even going to bother addressing it.
Finally, my name is TomB and dont you forget it. It was me, and me alone who, with one swift swing of the nerf bat, rendered your megathron, and yours alone, useless against AFs!
