why would it go anywhere? this game has more subscribers than it ever has and the devs are going to upgrade the graphics engine sometime this year so i doubt they have any plans to retire it anytime soon.

which PC gamer is that? the British one has an article about EVE almost every second month, and it scored 90%, second only to WoW (94%).

EVE has been leading all other MMOGs for a long time now. It is ahead of World of Warcraft, City of Heroes, Guild Wars and Everquest 2.

Edited by: Caer Lakief on 11/03/2006 18:28:18 You can see why however that many people don't think highly of Eve. For one it is a mostly European game that hardly any Americans know about or stumbled upon by chance like myself. Personally CCP needs to get an American advertising department open and get the latest patch in a box with game time in stores.
Edit - Of course I've got no idea if the server could handle the load of a couple thousand more people starting to play. |

Well there's the problem then :), The US PC Gamer sucks, the UK one => all. The UK one got me into EVE.

Advertisement on Penny Arcade did it for me. 14 day free trial and fancy space ships flying around, I just had to check it out.

I foud out about eve when I was bored and accidentally happened to look in the mmorpg.com site.
No advertises here, nobody knows about it and no magazines or TV-shows (Yeah we got TV show about games ). Each and every point I mentioned above is vice versa with WoW. Infact, I'd better mention about this game to that game show, maybe people realise then how much better this is compared to WoW. (CCP note this and gimme a HAC bpo!)
NEVER FEAR, THE REVELATIION IS HERE!
Im in Finland btw. -------------

The same for me actually, I believe I heard about Eve a couple years ago and have played off and on since then. It was sheer luck that my cousin had played beta.

I play Face Of Mankind also, and that game is based out of Europe. Some of the players told me about this game and that is what got me started. I live in California, USA and I have never seen this game in stores.

a lot depends on the article writers bias. Like it or not, most mmorpg players can be pigeonholed and eve would not appeal to the majority as it is a niche game and consequently to the article investigator.

If CCP were to open up a carebear only server (using say... the old hardware that just got replaced ) then you would see thousands of US players come give the game a try, IMO.
Hardcore PvP games don't seem to do as well in the states as in other countries.

I bought this game in the box in June 2003, if you go to CompUSA in some of them you can still find the strategy guide which came with it..... ;)

Edited by: Ralle030583 on 13/03/2006 08:24:30 i think that a lot of german players will come to eve in the next weeks. The 4 biggest gamer magazines in germany have this months articles about EVE and put the client and a 14days trial code on the CD /DVD's witch comes with the magazine. (and i think because of this we have this month more new members in our german corp that in the past 3-4 months.)
btw. i dont think that eve will end in the nearest furture.

NO they dont I like the amount of players we have now, EVE is our little secret. I am amazed at the lack of advertising for eve tho. Like you I stumbled onto it.

The only copies you will find anywhere are from the launch version, they certainly don't include Exodous or I think even Castor expansions.
EVE is I think the only MMO which is sold exclusively through electronic distribution, that puts the money in the developers pocket and doesnt get siphoned off to publishers, distributors etc.
As far as advertising goes, in the last six months EVE hasn't needed any. We've only had the new server about a month now (six weeks maybe) and before that it was chronically overloaded. When your hardware cant take anymore why advertise? To see if you can make it melt? ;)
We're finally getting back to a healthy system, the bugs from RMR are being gradually fixed and the memory leaks plugged. There is reportedly new hardware still on the way though, so maybe advertising will be put off until thats sorted. Or maybe there just wont be any. We hit 25,000 players online last night, another milestone broken. When the player base keeps on expanding, do you need to spend a load of money on expensive advertising?
EVE is far from dead, it's only just getting into gear.

I hope this game stays around for a long time. I bought a boxed copy of EVE in a store for ú5 after picking it up and putting it down for 6 months in the shop.
When i loaded it i thought if only they had made more effort with the CD case i would have bought it months ago.
Most games the pictures on the box look better than the game but with EVE it was the other way round.

I played in beta but couldn't get past the learning curve, but when I saw the advertisement on Penny Arcade, I thought I'd give it a shot again and now I'm hooked. I think the PA ads brought in a ton of people, because when I picked it up again there were usually maybe 10-13K or so people on at any given time, and now it's almost always around 20K except during off hours.

LOL, I too found Eve from the banner ad at Penny Arcade.
And, please. Who gives a flying fart what some idiot at some magazine says? If those guys were really gamers, they'd spend their time playing games, not writing about them.
I used to read PC Gamer, until about the 15th time I read a review of a game I knew and played, only to find much of the info in the review was misleading or just flat wrong.
No, I think your average game magazine writer is some dork with a big ego and a tiny p3n0r.
