You ARE wrong, Raid. GO TO MC AND ASK THEM HOW MUCH IT WOULD COST TO HAVE A CONTRACT ON US!
When they say "50 billion" (or whatever the fee may be) PAY IT AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS!
The point being, my poor misguided and obviously comprehension impaired fanboi, it isn't MC that won't take a contract, it is the peole of EVE that won't pay what it would cost to have a contract taken on us.
There's a rather massive, wide, huge difference, to it being too expensive, and not willing to even consider it.
Does having this outpost in period basis make that fee even greater?
Yes, it probably does.
Wishing you had thought of it first?
My point was the fee would exceed any benefit MC would give someone to be contracted against BOB. THAT is why MC will never be hired against BOB... yes the fee will be steep and its up to the client to pay it HOWEVER, this relationship was designed so that no one would ever be able to pay it thus bob will never be a contract MC will take.
Outpost in bob spave + MC new fee against BOB = MC in back pocket of BOB.
RAID ..... tsch tsch tsch.
people have had the opportunity to hire MC against BoB for a long time and no one has taken it up. So if MC wants to put an outpost up somewhere then where would be the most logical place to put it up that would not interfer with "likely" future conttracts, and where space is pretty safe?
put yourself in the position of MC and ask yourself what is best in their terms?
I say for a nomadic mercenary corp like MC who are good friends with BoB who want an outpost then the answer is fairly obvious.
If someone who has lots of iskies want to hire MC, then they could make a deal. ie. the hiring corp might let them have an outpost in their space as part of payment etc etc. There are ways around everything, just some people arent smart enough to think of those ways themselves.
That being said, I personally would love to fight MC, because they are great guys and i respect them alot, and they are very very good at what they do. What else could you ask for in a war?
So if some alliance came up with xx bill isk, then it would happen and BoB respect that.

People of course have had the oportunity to hire MC, but somehow i think the bill would be outragiously high. Is an MC contract against BOB worth XXbil? IMO.. no way... Hence the reason no one has paied such a price to have them shoot at BOB. With the outpost now there XX bil has turned into XXbil times 2..

Here's the deal...
Someone stole my cookies and took them to period basis figuring I wouldn't follow them 50+ Jumps down there. They were wrong! I went down there, snatched them cookies up and ate them all.
Knowing that my need for cookies was great I needed a nice place to get an oven to bake more cookies. I'm not going to go back to empire as it's just too far and while empire cookies are great why go there when I can just bake them here.
Since BoB was already around they offered me a chance to use their store to build my oven in. I said "Really? Aw shucks mister! Thanks!"
So I built me a big ass oven to bake all the friggin cookies I desire. Now if the cookie theif had went to Venal or Stain, well then I would've chased them there, snatched my cookies back ate them and built an oven for more cookies. But no! They did not. That's why I am baking cookies in Period Basis.
I think Band of Bakers are the only confectioner around that would allow me to build an oven in the back of their store. The other bakeries around the neighborhood are too cutthroat or mean to let a little defenseless gal with a sweet tooth and a penchant for snickerdoodles to build in oven in their stores anyway.
Lucky me, now I get all the damned kladdkaka and tea cookies I could desire!
COOKIES! Haha can't touch this! |

Nope, just a REALLY long time since I got it cut. And yes comparitively speaking his probably old enough to be my dad.

Um if you actually read what i wrote.. thats exactly what i've been saying. MC wont take a contract up aginsst bob and theres some disagreement as to why that is. Dianabolic sees is as no one has a plan or the money to pay MC... i see it being more like MC's fee for BOB has always been just high enough that no one can really afford it (or would ever want to pay MC that much to do it).
The end result is the same, and this outpost only solidifies that such a contract will never happen.
I patiently read all the posts of yours in this thread, and all of them have only one thing in common - you somehow assume that MC is in the business just for kicks. Sorry to break the news for you, but they are in it for money. Helpful link. Consequently, irrespective of any outpost existence, MC bills for engaging BOB would be higher than average, simply because they rely on intelligence and reconaissance data to estimate potential adversaries. I hope this is comprehensible enough without having an accounting background of dbp
Perhaps you would better understand the issue, if your guys would stop humping the Doril/Sendaya gate and trying to demand "something substantial and meaningful to the region" from 15-man newbie corps who had actually taken the trouble to make a proper diplomatic approach to request neutrality for passthrough corridor usage. But I guess that would require some business sense, if not actually accounting or diplomacy skills

Owning a business in a foreign country doesn't usually automatically make you a resident, and certainly not a national. There are exceptions to that rule, but not many. Same goes for real estate. There are countries that limit the sale of real estate properties to residents only, but tbh I haven't noticed any such legislation to be in effect in Period Basis |

Though, should be noted that the "we reserve right not to accept contracts on friends and family" is just a safe-guard in case we got a contract proposal on an alt corp or something. But as Seleene said "we'd take a contract on our alt corps, too, since it'd be so damned fun!"
Also, don't keep your valuables in the back pocket - it's a rather easy to pick pocket those.

Edited by: Fitz Chivalry on 13/03/2006 11:35:21 I cant really understand why there is any major surprise/interest to this move as it makes perfect sense for both parties.
(i) BoB get someone they can trust with a vested interest in the security of that region so that if they are threatened they would effectively hire the help of the MC for free as they would want to attack that hostile.
(ii) The hostile would not be able to hire MC against BoB as the cost would be prohibitively high (though it would have been anyway).
(iii) BoB often go wandering about space and if MC are at home carebearing then this leaves their home space with a decent pvp presence that would attack hostiles for free.
(iv) MC need access to 0.0 space as there is far more money to be made ratting and mining in 0.0 than there is from merc activities, they are just not as much fun. Also it makes things much easier from a capital ships construction perspective.
(v) I doubt very much that MC would have ever taken a contract against BoB and so this changes very little. I am not saying MC were/are in league with BoB, its just that the price they would have quoted would have been so high that it would not be worth doing, you would be better off hiring half a dozen of the other merc bands out there instead for more bang for your buck.
Having recently constructed our own outpost, I know what a sense of achievement it brings to have your own home. Enjoy.
edit: be interesting to see if another alliance forms a similar deal with one of the other big merc corps/groups. |

What an amusing thread.
MC's outpost means they'll never fight BoB? Hardly.
If they got paid what it takes, and were sure that the contracting alliance had the stones to carry through the fight until the region was secure, what difference would the outpost make?
So long as MC are allowed to use it, it doesn't matter to them who 'owns' the space.

What I don't understand is why everyone is so hellbent on building their own capital ships instead of outright buying them.
I guess it must be because it's so much easier to convince the corp pets to mine for corp minerals instead of asking them to hand over the cash right away ---

Congrats on the refining outposts.. two questions though: 1) Is it made of duct tape and corrosioned metals, like all the minmatar ships? 2) Would like to see one and how it holds together. are we allowed to come take a look there, and dock? ---------------------------------------------- All my posts are my own opinions and dont not represent any organization until stated otherwise. |

Being self sufficient is very usefull during a time of war, especially if hostiles are doing a lot of camping.

If a mercenary is not willing to take a contract on against anyone and everyone then they should no longer be considered a Merc.
MC are now just a another 0.0 alliance nothing more.

There are a number of reasons, in no particular order:
* It guarentees a supply. * It guarentees a delivery date. * It saves us money. * It makes us money. * They're built where we want them. * We build 99% of what we use, ourselves, it's a self sufficiency thing.

This entire thread only really has one point regardless of future contracts or not (as I fully believe MC to fight BoB if the price is right - read: high). MC, with the construction of the outpost in BoB space (as the culminating event), has firmly entered the 0.0 political/military arena as a non-neutral entity on the "side" of BoB.
Standings will be set (if they are not already) accordingly by many people I'm sure.
