Mining outposts are great for recycling loot. You can put them in systems with many belts and will recieve a big return on investment.

Refinery outposts are most useful Outposts.
Everyone gets Market.
Labs can be replaced with a Mobile Lab, with BP's stored in outpost. And the Mobile's reduce more time from research
Deployable factories are a lot the same. can make ships faster, usually easier to just use a deployalbe factory.
The Refinery array, though, is VERY limited, and takes a long time. Coupled with the fact that mining is one of the more active things players do in 0.0 (having a factory doesn;t help if you don't have the minerals) it really just makes sence if your making an Outpost, just make it a refinery.

I don't get grumpy at you Junior, I just point out when you're being daft
Anyway, as you know we're just a stale old carebear alliance with no teeth these days (it says so on the forums, numerous alts told us, so it must be true) so you surely can't be surprised at us putting up refining outposts

Random question; With the MC outpost in Bob space does this mean the MC will not be taking contracts against Bob anymore? Or is Bob okay with a Mc base in their own space during wartime? Or will Bob be taking away the outpost incase of war?
Oh and no im not an alt ^_^ -------

I guess it means so is/was the ISS then, seeing how they were allowed to operate in BoB space and run their starbases in it...
or maybe someone simply had enough business sense to negotiate a contract that'd benefit both sides enough to warrant it. o.O

"I dont think we will ever see MC take a contract up against BOB. Am i wrong? tell me why if i am..."
If they do, then it's reasonable to expect cost of the outpost would be included in the contract bill.
Which doesn't automatically mean no contract ever, but likely reduces amount of people who could afford it even further...
but then it's not like any other alliance wasn't free to offer MC a deal like that, and gain similar advantage.

No doubt they will quote someone a fee for a contract on bob... But to seem impartial they will quote a ridiculously high fee to a point where no one would even want to pay it. If i was MC and i had an outpost in your space, why would i risk it for a contact that would eventually expire? They have a money making outpost that will generate more revenue that any single contract ever could.
When i said MC was in BOB's back pocket, thats what i meant.... is what i have said above wrong? Explain if so..

Edited by: Shibby DoWa on 12/03/2006 17:33:43 ok, lets try a constructive post.
The last time MC went carebearing in BoB space, there was a huge out-cry over MC being in BoB's pockets, how they would never take a contract against BoB, etc and what-not. However, this was only a short-stay to get the wallet up, something that just about every merc corp has to do from time to time (KIA were mining in someone else's space for a while to get their capital ships too). Once the carebearing is finished, there would be no need what-so-ever for the merc corp to hang around.
Now, if a merc corp creates and builds property, whether it be a POS or an Outpost, they are at the mercy of the alliance who controls that space, and others who wish to claim their space. If hostile entity X decides to try and take the MC's outpost while the MC are at the other side of the galaxy on a contract, who will defend it? If somebody is attacking BoB's space, will the MC intervine (even if on another contract) to defend their outpost or the space of their hosts? If someone comes up with enough ISK to hire the MC against BoB, will the outpost be fair game to take? What will happen after the contract?
It would be good to get both an official BoB and MC statement on this (especially the MC) about how the above situations and more will be resolved. While the ISS maybe allowed into another alliance's territory to get rich, this is because their neutrality is different to that of the MC's. ISS's goals are to get rich and be friends with everyone. The MC's is to kill whoever pays them lots of ISK wants them to kill, and never to turn down a contract due to "friendly relations" with a certain alliance. People will be less willing to hire the MC if they will have to constantly worry about them backing out of a contract to defend their home systems.

Ask MC exactly how many, SERIOUS, with CASH and with a PLAN, offers they had for contracts they had on BoB.
Once you've had an answer, ask why any forward thinking group could possibly want an outpost - then try and work out why we're the most obvious people to speak to about putting up an outpost.
It's all rather obvious, Raid, if you think about it.

exactly, but MC would quote the cost of the outpost PLUS any revenue they might lose in the future... a total of countless billions. So no, MC will never take a contact against BOB because the price is simply too high. The advantages gained by MC would never justify such a bill...

Incorrect, the bill for using mc against us is now something that THE CLIENT *might* never pay.
So again, if you wanna find out - ask mc how much they want, cough it up and let's see the result, shall we?

Any answer given is far less comprehended than an answer found.
edit: the fact that the answer to this has been given, on many occassions, by the ceos of both groups, just further proves the point.

Actually im more concerned about what MC is doing. Im not asking why BOB has let MC into their territory thats fairly obvious. Question is, why has MC decided to build an OUTPOST (not a pos or something else that can be taken down) in someone elses territory. Such an action does effect the prices they charge for their contracts and does effect who they are contracted against.
I cant compete with the RKK forum *****s so call me whatever you like. The questions however, will not be going away. Either answer them or just admit you now own MC.
edit: shibby beat me to it... thanks for actually reading my posts shibby.

whether that was a serious question or not, you can't part a titan at an outpost, only POS.

You ARE wrong, Raid. GO TO MC AND ASK THEM HOW MUCH IT WOULD COST TO HAVE A CONTRACT ON US!
When they say "50 billion" (or whatever the fee may be) PAY IT AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS!
The point being, my poor misguided and obviously comprehension impaired fanboi, it isn't MC that won't take a contract, it is the peole of EVE that won't pay what it would cost to have a contract taken on us.
There's a rather massive, wide, huge difference, to it being too expensive, and not willing to even consider it.
Does having this outpost in period basis make that fee even greater?
Yes, it probably does.

My point was the fee would exceed any benefit MC would give someone to be contracted against BOB. THAT is why MC will never be hired against BOB... yes the fee will be steep and its up to the client to pay it HOWEVER, this relationship was designed so that no one would ever be able to pay it thus bob will never be a contract MC will take.
Outpost in bob spave + MC new fee against BOB = MC in back pocket of BOB.

and if CC held space that the MC could build an outpost in, exactly the same kind of deal could have been struck.
Being honest, the issue here isn't that the MC built an outpost in 0.0, it's who's 0.0 space they built it on. anyone who attempts to take bob's space will now have both bob AND the mc after them, which isn't really a very inviting prospect.
still, an official announcement from the MC would help calm things down.

But no, Raid, your point was that MC wouldn't take a contract against BoB - I've proved that it isn't the MC that are the problem, it is the EVE community (most notably our enemies) who don't have the plan, nor the cash, to make it worth their while.
FA failed to pay for it when we took first Delve, then Fountain.
Imperium failed to pay for it when we kicked them out of Outer Ring.
If that is how you define somenoe who is in the "bob back pocket" then great, the MC can keep my pockets warm allllll night long. But right now you look like a bitter little fanbois, who is jealous of the empires that can be built, all that is required is a little bit of effort.

If the MC's current client(s) or serious client(s) to be are concerned about anything to do with our services or contracts they are of course free to contact us privately and have things clarified and dealt with in a one to one situation as is our normal SOP.

Um if you actually read what i wrote.. thats exactly what i've been saying. MC wont take a contract up aginsst bob and theres some disagreement as to why that is. Dianabolic sees is as no one has a plan or the money to pay MC... i see it being more like MC's fee for BOB has always been just high enough that no one can really afford it (or would ever want to pay MC that much to do it).
The end result is the same, and this outpost only solidifies that such a contract will never happen.

Point is MC is not neutral and merchs are supposed to be neutral. They have taken an outpost in BOB space and they lose potential customers that are not BOB friendly or against BOB+BOB friendly targets. Fair enough merchs are in it for the isk after all. Tryin to say that a contract against BoB would be "Lots of isk" + "The cost of an outpost" is rediculous and you underestimate the average readers inteligence just by saying so and thats y MC havent made an announcement about it.
I expect to see a lot of BoB-hostile entities beeing war dec'd by MC in the future and we already know the price on those "contracts".
Bottomline BOB n MC have mutual intrests from now on, so BOB will be an "exception" as a war target. Maybe they will have a war funded by some unknown person for 1 week to prove otherwise, but its obvious as many ppl said, points at dianabolic ;)

Its pretty obvious why MC built an outpost. Eve seems to be going towards bigger and bigger capital ships, so having 0.0 refining and production facilities is super useful in order to be able to produce these things.
They couldnt build an outpost in "unclaimed" space because it mainly has crap roids and moons, is generally close to empire and so hard to secure, and what happens if the MC are on contract and someone else moves a fleet in to take their space?
It's pretty obvious why they chose bob. Noone seemed to be willing to pay what it would take to make them fight bob anyway, and bob's space is amongst the most secure in eve. Also they already have friendly relations.
It's less obvious what the problem is. And that problem is that BoB have a tendency to get involved in fights beyond their borders. (Unless they suddenly went all carebear on us). What happens if MC are in a long term alliance war contract, with their full force, at rates of say 2bn a week (I really dont know what MC rates are), and suddenly the situation changes and BoB comes in on the other side? MCs forces are all committed on the contract and BoB attack their outpost. (And I'm not accusing BoB of being dishonourable here - it's war right?).
It just seems like a messy situation...
Or hey maybe BoB and MC are bored (I havent heard of any big MC contracts lately), and they're just setting up for a good old fashioned war down there :)

So there will be no official MC statement regarding the outpost? That'd be a bit odd, seeing as you don't usually shy away from releasing news about considerable achievements (we'll agree that PR is important for corporations in the mercenary business).

Edited by: David Corbett on 12/03/2006 22:33:40 So why does this all matter? There are a lot of outposts out there now. They're really not that expensive when you take a look at it and put it all together, especially for a large alliance like ASCN or BoB. Heck, small alliances and assorted industrial conglomorations have put them in space, too.
Actually, by now I'd expect one of the old RA dudes to come in and say that he could pay for an outpost from his own wallet.
MC and BoB have a good relationship. MC is famous for their professionalism, so I'm sure they'd still take that contract. But watch out for gank fleets hiding behind gates :P

Here's the deal...
Someone stole my cookies and took them to period basis figuring I wouldn't follow them 50+ Jumps down there. They were wrong! I went down there, snatched them cookies up and ate them all.
Knowing that my need for cookies was great I needed a nice place to get an oven to bake more cookies. I'm not going to go back to empire as it's just too far and while empire cookies are great why go there when I can just bake them here.
Since BoB was already around they offered me a chance to use their store to build my oven in. I said "Really? Aw shucks mister! Thanks!"
So I built me a big ass oven to bake all the friggin cookies I desire. Now if the cookie theif had went to Venal or Stain, well then I would've chased them there, snatched my cookies back ate them and built an oven for more cookies. But no! They did not. That's why I am baking cookies in Period Basis.
I think Band of Bakers are the only confectioner around that would allow me to build an oven in the back of their store. The other bakeries around the neighborhood are too cutthroat or mean to let a little defenseless gal with a sweet tooth and a penchant for snickerdoodles to build in oven in their stores anyway.
Lucky me, now I get all the damned kladdkaka and tea cookies I could desire!

I patiently read all the posts of yours in this thread, and all of them have only one thing in common - you somehow assume that MC is in the business just for kicks. Sorry to break the news for you, but they are in it for money. Helpful link. Consequently, irrespective of any outpost existence, MC bills for engaging BOB would be higher than average, simply because they rely on intelligence and reconaissance data to estimate potential adversaries. I hope this is comprehensible enough without having an accounting background of dbp
Perhaps you would better understand the issue, if your guys would stop humping the Doril/Sendaya gate and trying to demand "something substantial and meaningful to the region" from 15-man newbie corps who had actually taken the trouble to make a proper diplomatic approach to request neutrality for passthrough corridor usage. But I guess that would require some business sense, if not actually accounting or diplomacy skills

Wishing you had thought of it first?
My point was the fee would exceed any benefit MC would give someone to be contracted against BOB. THAT is why MC will never be hired against BOB... yes the fee will be steep and its up to the client to pay it HOWEVER, this relationship was designed so that no one would ever be able to pay it thus bob will never be a contract MC will take.
Outpost in bob spave + MC new fee against BOB = MC in back pocket of BOB.
RAID ..... tsch tsch tsch.
people have had the opportunity to hire MC against BoB for a long time and no one has taken it up. So if MC wants to put an outpost up somewhere then where would be the most logical place to put it up that would not interfer with "likely" future conttracts, and where space is pretty safe?
put yourself in the position of MC and ask yourself what is best in their terms?
I say for a nomadic mercenary corp like MC who are good friends with BoB who want an outpost then the answer is fairly obvious.
If someone who has lots of iskies want to hire MC, then they could make a deal. ie. the hiring corp might let them have an outpost in their space as part of payment etc etc. There are ways around everything, just some people arent smart enough to think of those ways themselves.
That being said, I personally would love to fight MC, because they are great guys and i respect them alot, and they are very very good at what they do. What else could you ask for in a war?
So if some alliance came up with xx bill isk, then it would happen and BoB respect that.

People of course have had the oportunity to hire MC, but somehow i think the bill would be outragiously high. Is an MC contract against BOB worth XXbil? IMO.. no way... Hence the reason no one has paied such a price to have them shoot at BOB. With the outpost now there XX bil has turned into XXbil times 2..

COOKIES! Haha can't touch this! |

Owning a business in a foreign country doesn't usually automatically make you a resident, and certainly not a national. There are exceptions to that rule, but not many. Same goes for real estate. There are countries that limit the sale of real estate properties to residents only, but tbh I haven't noticed any such legislation to be in effect in Period Basis |

Edited by: Fitz Chivalry on 13/03/2006 11:35:21 I cant really understand why there is any major surprise/interest to this move as it makes perfect sense for both parties.
(i) BoB get someone they can trust with a vested interest in the security of that region so that if they are threatened they would effectively hire the help of the MC for free as they would want to attack that hostile.
(ii) The hostile would not be able to hire MC against BoB as the cost would be prohibitively high (though it would have been anyway).
(iii) BoB often go wandering about space and if MC are at home carebearing then this leaves their home space with a decent pvp presence that would attack hostiles for free.
(iv) MC need access to 0.0 space as there is far more money to be made ratting and mining in 0.0 than there is from merc activities, they are just not as much fun. Also it makes things much easier from a capital ships construction perspective.
(v) I doubt very much that MC would have ever taken a contract against BoB and so this changes very little. I am not saying MC were/are in league with BoB, its just that the price they would have quoted would have been so high that it would not be worth doing, you would be better off hiring half a dozen of the other merc bands out there instead for more bang for your buck.
Having recently constructed our own outpost, I know what a sense of achievement it brings to have your own home. Enjoy.
edit: be interesting to see if another alliance forms a similar deal with one of the other big merc corps/groups. |

What an amusing thread.
MC's outpost means they'll never fight BoB? Hardly.
If they got paid what it takes, and were sure that the contracting alliance had the stones to carry through the fight until the region was secure, what difference would the outpost make?
So long as MC are allowed to use it, it doesn't matter to them who 'owns' the space.

There are a number of reasons, in no particular order:
* It guarentees a supply. * It guarentees a delivery date. * It saves us money. * It makes us money. * They're built where we want them. * We build 99% of what we use, ourselves, it's a self sufficiency thing.

This entire thread only really has one point regardless of future contracts or not (as I fully believe MC to fight BoB if the price is right - read: high). MC, with the construction of the outpost in BoB space (as the culminating event), has firmly entered the 0.0 political/military arena as a non-neutral entity on the "side" of BoB.
Standings will be set (if they are not already) accordingly by many people I'm sure.

You know if the MC were offered the right money to have a go at us, we would be more than happy for them to take the contract. The fact that they have an outpost in one of our regions wouldn't matter a damn to us. We'd fight them during the contract and cause them as much pain as possible, expect them to do exactly the same to us, then we'd sit back and have a few beers and a laugh about it with them afterwards.
If you believe otherwise there's no wonder you're crap at Eve.

Shushh and go make some more ignorant posts.
I am glad you brought that up. My question is wtf are you doing in Delve when we are in Stain? Apparently you dont have the ballz to fight in Stain. But by all means stay there it just means Stain will fall easier.

LOL OMFG SOMEONE GET THIS MAN A FECKING CLUE!!!!!
You attacked us and declared war. We came to Stain and you left for Delve.
What kind of imbecile fleet commanders do you have or are you relying on a decoder ring from a cereal box to understand what we are saying?

You aren't anywhere. There is a tiny smattering of ships based out of a couple of NPC stations in a couple of systems.
The rest of you appear to be ummmmm, who knows.

I find it funny how SA have been complaining about us not bringing it and as soon as we bring it you all scatter and run away. A few SA said in local that killing you wouldnt be as easy to kill as FA was. Guess what, even FA put up more of a fight the first few weeks.
You wanted us to bring it, you complained and moaned that we didnt bring it. You have made a fool of yourself and showed the rest of EvE what kind of Alliance you really are. Run and Hide.

... So, you don't even consider the possibility you could actually win a head-on fight, and reckon all you can do is run around and gank random target here and there? That's rather... weak, for all the earlier forum chest beating and stuff :/

uhmm i didn't say anything to such effect? o.O
Galavet asked if BoB came back to Delve for you, would you stay there and fight, and you answered no, you wouldn't let BoB kill you all like that. It was the fact you didn't even consider other possible outcome to such kind of fight but BoB killing you all if you stayed, that i commented on.

People complain when we stop the banter, they complain when we don't. What you should have done was email [email protected] so we could have noticed this thread and addressed it properly if you had a concern.
At least people are using their mains for the most part.
But for now, this thread is too far gone off-topic. It appears as though the OP got her answer in the midst of everything else included.
