I am just on a trial account, only until my tax returns come out though. Anyway I wanted to start a fruitful discussion on the potential energy need to destroy a planet. I am no energy or space expert so I would love your guys' thoughts. :)

It's a really large number... something like 1e28 joules for an Earthlike planet (111.11 gigatonnes of matter and antimatter colliding together, for example.) Oh, and note that that's in actual mass, not in tonnes of TNT.

And probably a good sized chunk of antimatter could do it BUT antimatter is extreamly hard to come by. (Fact a teaspoon of Antimatter can produce enough energy to problem a ship to mars. The probably though is how to store the stuff.)
