So far I heard of GMs that Login Traps are considered an exploit since it affects ingame mechanics with out-of-game mechanics. It gives you a free full fleet cloaking device. Now we lost a freighter because the enemy used it on us and the GM Neptis is answering that this is NOT considered as an exploit. I want some official clearance please if it is now or not, because we had a similar situation today as well but we didnt use the login trap as it was considered an exploit.

If the enemy does an emergency warp, its not an exploit. If they appear at the exact same position in space where they logged off, then its an exploit (which isn't possible).
Thats the official word, when the thing was first introduced. Technically its impossible to do login-exploits, even it could be considered a login-trap by players.

Edited by: c0rn1 on 27/03/2006 05:34:21 Edited by: c0rn1 on 27/03/2006 05:31:34 ok, so if I log off with a 200 man fleet in front of a gate when I have a hostile fleet at the other side or a couple jumps away, just leave a cov ops there and 2 or 3 interdictors. then I wait 30 mins and prolly the fleet will jump in there because they got a station there, I will let the dictors place bubbles and the ppl log in at the gate. all at once. the whole jumped in fleet is crushed and intel is completely worthless, because you can do that all day. login, logout. it doesnt show a blob on map and the 15km random warp back in spot, doesnt really interest me at all in a sniping battleship. It exploits the whole game mechanics of fleet movement, tracking and strategy. it's such an easy exploit to trace, because you just have to check in logfiles what people logged in at once in a system in a timeframe of 1 minute and you can warn the people not to use it again.
I think that's not what was in the mind of the devs when they once created the "login" procedure.

"it doesnt show a blob on map"
Aye; which is why some people asked for the map to be enhanced with "number of people logged off in the system in last 24 hours" filter, or something to similar effect...
edit: in the meantime though, it's allowed because there's technically mechanics in place which prevent the old type of login traps.

And yet this is no longer true (nor ever was as a matter of fact). Frieghters changed this. Escroting never was safe from loggintraps, and with capital ships in the mix escorting has become much mroe important.
Luckily, it's not like we didn't warn CCP two months before they came up with the whole frieghter thing that this would happen.. So I guess we can expect a solution soon.

I'm just wondering is Eve considered in ANY fashion a RP game? or is it whatever you want it to be? I see a lot of "RP" style news updates and events etc, etc so this is why I wonder.
In an RP enviornment how the hell do you use out-of-game knowledge to kill people in-game?
Whats really funny about this is we ALL know its wrong even the ones doing it, yet its allowed. I really hope CCP looks this over because it shouldn't be allowed.
The poster is right if everyone starts doing this fleet battles will be determined by who can get their side into the right spot then logging first, wait a while until some of the enemies say "This is lame i'm not waiting around for them to log back on" then pop on with a 5:1 advantage.

And even if I completely agree with your point here Jenny (we know ho is 'good' at login-traps) unless it is concidered an exploit some will keep on using it to their advantage.
KOS, this is a known way for your foes to battle you (as they do it with us), you know this now. It will not happen again next time because you must always consider a login trap.

They could make it so there is a time delay for players who recently log on to lock targets. Granted that target hasn't agressed.
Then again, the more and more crap you put in to prevent others from pulling less than legit things.. The more you break it :D
I wish people would have the respect not to abuse game mechanics.

Not sure if I understand you right. Seeing multiple pilots logging in at the same time and dropping out of warp around your current position at a gate/station (can be seen in a CoC movie) is an exploit. But according to your statement above, its not possible. Now I¦m slightly confused. ------ Ö Ship lover

Yes. Because they have delay, between logging in, and appearing on the battlefield. About KOS case... Guys, buy new glasses for your scout.

Edited by: Rod Blaine on 27/03/2006 09:25:17 I like the "can't target unless targeted" penalty for those that log on in space. Except that it's exploitable again by targeting your group with an alt you leave in space.
I'd say that it needs adapting a bit. How about you cannot lock untill youve taken damage ?
A 5 min duration should do.

Log-in traps are used by rejects to make up for a lack of skills.
Look at who uses them and their recent losses and say it ain't so.

Players, corperations or alliances using logintraps loose reputation.
Reputation cannot be calculated like ISK in wallet or killmails - but reputation is very important in EVE. Once a reputation dropped too low, respected veteran players will not cooperate with these people anymore.
Using logintraps does seriously damage your reputation. Like macromining or whatever other sort of exploit. Loging of in battle also makes you loose reputation. Even logging of to save your pod makes you loose reputation because you didnt have the balls to die with your character.
All in all these people hurt themselves. They get or keep some ISK for the price of honor.

Three mechanics will deal with this problem
1st) Take away shields and cap when logging off outside of a station 2nd) Increase warp distance to several AU 3rd) Make the warp distances random, so that no organized fleet appearance is possible
The strength of these effects should depend in a non-linear way on total time logged off.
That is, within 5 minutes there should be hardly any effect, in order to not further penalize people with disconnects and ctd. After that, the effect should increase very quickly until it is maxed out after more than, say, 15 minutes.
