I finally succombed to the skill obsession, although I swore I never would.
At 3:17am this morning, my "silent" alarm (vibration setting only) slowly brought me to consciousness. I slipped quietly out of bed, making sure not to wake the wife. I walked slowly in the dark, down the hall, towards the computer desk... switched it on... fired it up... made sure the sound was off... logged in and changed my first skill mid-sleep.
Feeling guilty, but extremely pleased with the skill change - I just had to try it out didnt I? Could I push my luck and get away with a quick 20 minutes of game time?
Yes. Oh look at that tractor beam! Its beautiful, a thing to behold... Lovely.
At 5:22am I creep back into bed. Ouch, last time I do that. Or will it be?
Does this mean I'm officially addicted? How many other people out there have also found themselves creeping out of bed at strange hours just to change a damned skill! Gah!

I train super long skills when I'm sleeping and at work, and short ones when I'm online and active.
Only problem is, I have all these long-ass skills all sitting at like 80% because they'll end while I'm aslep and my brain can't process skill downtime

In my 6 months in EVE i've yet to have to get out of bed or re-arrange my real life schedule around EVE. And no, I don't use EVE Char Manager anymore because of the hacking spree a while ago.
Not like its hard

That move cost me a GF once upon a time...
She said that if I ever played EVE again she'd leave me...
Hell, at this point I can't say I miss her or regret my choice...
Speaking of which, you'll notice I'm still here... Don't mind me... I'm just a pigment of your imagination. |

hahaha, i've done that many many times. Sometimes at 4am or 5am or 3am... either case, I know it's bad and this game is very very evil. ------------------

Yeah, there's some good points and bad points to that. On the one hand, I've never thought it was worth it to wake up for a video game. Sleep > Video games. It's not a tough decision for me. I don't consider someone who does change their skills in the middle of the night to be crazy addicted -- it's their choice. However, on the other hand, if a girl says "It's either that or me." Screw that. You do what you enjoy doing, and there will be a girl who will be ok with that if not enjoy it, too (although, coming from WoW, there's a lot less girls that play this game when compared to WoW )

I've never set an alarm to train skills, however I'll ocassionally be on the verge of sleep, then realise I didn't change to a skill that would take more than 6 hours. So I'll spring up change a skill, then go back to trying to fall asleep.

I only do it if I awake normally, which is common for me to do in the middle of the night and I know I have a skill expiring. I always train long skill at night (like..longer than a day), unless Im desperate to fit something so I dont really need to manage skills at night

Edited by: Stradivarious on 04/04/2006 17:17:12 I've been playing long enough that most of the time, a skill finishing in the middle of the night and having no skill being trained for a few hours isn't of much concern to me. On occasion however, when I'm in a time crunch to get some pre-reqs done so I can set a long skill while I'm afk for a few weeks for work, I've been known to get whenever necessary to switch skills.
Most of the time I just get up 15 min early to catch the server right before it goes down... Until they changed it so you cannot login 5 min before downtime anyways, very annoying getting up early to change it to find out ccp has closed the server early... I don't think CCP considered east coast US players too well when they wrote that into their code (FYI, until daylight savings time kicked in the other day, DT was from 6-7AM EST, a large chunk of people get up at 6 ) Now its 7-8 AM so its a wee bit better, until fall anyways :(
As for the GF giving you crap about eve, get her hooked on it herself, find one who will tolerate it, or go without one. Now if you can turn HER down for sex, because you are out with the boys pvping, then you know you are truely and sadly addicted, myself included
Edit - Because I forgot how to add and subtract
I like to think of myself as the chlorine in the gene pool.

It's only a game.....I used to bother about it, but now I can handle missed training time, so long as it's only a couple of hours or so.

I use to worry alot about the game. I have not had an implant for over a year. Whats 3 days on a 30 day train.
I lately let the skill train run out while at work and forget to start a new one. Does not really effect anything except the clone cost. -------------------------- I have big balls of Plasma coming out of my guns.

Edited by: Helper Monkey on 04/04/2006 18:01:40 be careful as if your wife is not open minded, she might want a divorse as she could be jealous.
jsut be very careful, i have a friend whos wife wont let him play hardly.
From what i understand she would go on and on about , you never wake up early for me blah blah, she would rather him be licking her toes .
But then again what do u expect from a wanna be hippy / vegetarian / against everything normal people believe in chick ?
She once told me some sad story about how we are all in something like "The Matrix" and she has realized and the rest of us are sheep :(
