Hi guys, title says it all. I need to know what program is fairly user friendly, and able to handle the code for IGB. I am not very http literate, my only real experience was creating a family website using microsoft access (which I have heard is crap for http design, but at least it is very user friendly, no code needed)
Is there anything similar but better than MS access, in terms of user friendly and compatibility with the IGB, and does anyone have any good http for dummies links for me? All the ones I have found seem to be advanced, or cost money. ------------------------------------------ Dreadnought Production INC is recruiting Join DPI Channel Or Visit (IGB) http://www.mmorpg-online.net/intro.html |

You can't create a good IGB site without being fairly knowledgable about html, no WYSIWYG editor will work nicely with it.

Edited by: Marina Svetland on 08/04/2006 14:15:53 Continuing on this topic, though, I am solid with HTML, CSS, PHP, ASP and many forms of web protocols. What protocol does the IGB best adhere to? We looking at like HTML 4.0 level of competency? I mean I've seen a couple functional in game sites, and they reak of 4.0, which I suppose is fine -- kind of tough to "unlearn" what I am already up to doing, but fine with me.

AFAIK : It's either HTML 1 or HTML 2
Half the commands in that link don't actually work (tried).
Apparently it's being recoded but it's of lowest priority atm.

i use PAGE BUILDER, by one of my mates i met on mIRC 3 years back.
He made it after teaching ppl to make websites and was so annoyed at the lack of simple, free, usefull website editor / creation tools on the market at the time.
Basicly when starting the program you a presented with a lay blank area where your html coding will go. The tabs at the top are filled with buttons that are pre-programed to enter some html coding and some SSI scripts such as:
Drop Down menu scripts. Time-Limited Image. 'Mouse Over' 'Last modified'
and so on....
The program is SO easy to use but does require you read the READ ME or help files first as with all programs. The brilliant thing with this program is it does'nt use any all kicking all dancing XHTML or HTMLD so the ingame browser understands (just about) everything that this particlular program can do.
I've only had a few problems but its down to laziness or silly mistakes on my part, Eg: Trying to preview a page with 2 or more </HTML> tags, the prgram will freeze and you will need to force it to shut down via ALT+Ctrl+delete.
However it does detect when such things happen and will make a autosave before it shuts off.
Very simple, Very free, no bs tutorails / promo's Do not use that blinking image as signature - Saucerhead

I have been using ActiveState Komodo for all my development as of late. 3.5 is very good and it runs in Linux and in Windows equally well and now supports ruby and ruby on rails. I really like it for its OOP support and its PHP support.
Personal Edition is really nice and isn't expensive and the full version is well worth the money.
If you are writing C++ or C# I would suggest one of the free Visual Studio packages too.

Just remember the IGB is extremely sensitive when it comes to writing the html code. You need to close all of your tags, else it wont display anything. This also includes the </html> and </body>
And it renders tables realy slow, so use them as little as possible. CSS is not very good with it either.

the igb is total **** when it comes to html support, it doesnt adhere to any html standards that i can see! as for using editors, if they are "good" they wont work since they would use proper html/css. best way from the times ive done it is to use notepad or handcode in your editor and follow the guide by the devs for making a site for the igb, although that itself is out-of-date anyway afaik!: D
