Karak,
+1 to what Kimmi wrote and I'd also add that many players who themselves start in Eve-Uni, one of the Brave Newbie corps or RvB eventually move into other Corps and take that spirit of helping and assisting new players with them.
RvB is less a structured learning environment and more a place to find similarly skilled pilots to fight against, but both Eve-Uni and Brave Newbies are structured specifically to assist new players, with Eve-Uni having a very broad set of activities in highsec, lowsec nullsec and wormhole space.
What all 3 of these Corps and Alliances have created is not only places of there own for new players, but graduates and former members who are all too willing no matter which Corp they are in, to help new players learn the game while having a heap of fun.
If you are struggling, I would definitely recommend giving any of those 3 a try, or find another player Corp that will help. The only thing required is a good attitude and respect for others. Some Corps provide ships and skill books for free, so you gain off the efforts of the more experienced players who grind the ISK. eve-bazaar - I'm not associated with them, but support it as a worthwhile service |

If I had to do it, you had better give me a damned good reason why you think you shouldn't have to. Not sure why you're quoting me; I didn't make any such suggestion. Kaarous Aldurald wrote:There is no inability, apparent or otherwise. The game has a hefty learning curve, but it's about attitude as much as it is about game mechanics. Despite this, the game continues to grow, as it has for a long, long time. If the game continues to grow, then it seems that the OP's claim is wrong. I was responding to the claim in the OP, not to the scenario you just now suggested.
I was using the royal "you". :P
As in, you or anyone.
The new player experience is primarily hampered not by a lack of opportunity, but by other people. And not in the way that might be imagined, either.
It's by highsec corps. Between them, the Help Channel, and NPC corp chat, the game is a poisonous environment that only serves to try and hamper the development of budding players.
It's part of why I believe it's so important to have highsec wardecs be powerful and prominent. It's a very necessary service to stamp out these toxic highsec corps that tell newbies "they can't" do X, Y, or Z. Whether that "they can't" is about PvP, skillpoints, isk, whatever. Thanks for the tips and concern. Truth is, I'm not struggling, but am doing great. Divine Entervention, however, has voiced some things that could be perceived as expressions of struggling. Perhaps he'll take advantage of your and Kimmi's suggestions, which are great suggestions. |

That's a good broad goal but for now look at something more specific.
Kaarous and Scipio are very accomplished PvP enthusiasts (Kaarous is a psychopath, but a lovable psychopath). Their words here are very valuable.
Don't ever be okay with being told, "You can't do that". If anyone ever tells you, "You can't do that." You tell them to go **** themselves.
My experience is more with PvE in HighSec. I am what PvP enthusiasts lovingly call a "CareBear". The big difference between this CareBear and "those" carebears is I don't want the game to change to benefit my play unless it benefits everyone's play. So Kaarous and Scipio, at least somewhat, tolerate me.

Theft of embroidery aside, I wanted to discuss this.
That pretty much makes you not a carebear, Kimmi. Taking steps in your own defense and not abdicating it to CONCORD is the other major step, besides the attitude.

I recommend Faction Warfare. As a new person, despite the fun shattering limitations EVE and it's veterans impose on me, There are still options I can take to enjoy myself.
Just try to ignore that after a bit of FW you'll never get to fly in gallente or minmatar space again. But it's OK, because gallente's are trash cans and minmatars are good at athletics but are dumb and their space stinks. You didn't want that space anyways. |

You justify trying to upset people.
I do not want any positivity from you. Once you begin being nice to me, I'll know you're plotting to steal something, or I've become something you enjoy.
Considering the type of person you are, one who will make up excuses to treat others poorly, or act in ways that disregard others feelings for you're own enjoyment, you're reinforcement is the last thing I want.
Someone like you despising me, is exactly what I want. It confirms to me that I am right about you and the way you think/operate. You being a lesser person. |

You stated earlier you were going to allow yourself to judge me with my own criteria. Something you hated.
If you're a mature responsible 40 year old, why would you allow yourself to be coerced into something you hate to do?

Yes, I am. My answer would be yes. There are plenty of things that can be improved in the new player experience, I think. I don't think making high-sec less dangerous is necessarily beneficial, however. Educating people as to their options, that is what is important.
Most of the dangers in high sec are actually extremely easy to avoid, if you keep your wits about you & have some knowledge of the mechanics. |
