Instead, they've made the game easier and added more layers of protection for those players. Based on his subsequent posting, the OP's problem rather seems to be that these alterations are done for new players and don't involve anything that he, as an older player, can use to his advantage. That is the greatest LIE about eve ever.
Eve is exaclty interestign because you do nto need to invest as much time as MMOs where the advancement is grind based.
You need for example a tiny FRACTION of the time investment of WoT players. And even so the advantage of older players in WoT is far LARGER than of old playerts in eve.
At the end these people that say that are uninformed or crybabies.
OF course, veterans have MOre options, but you can focus on something as be as good as a veteran within a few months.

Wtf? The opposite. Anyoen that does nto leave high sec within the first few weeks is likely to never understand eve and become one of these simplistic missiosn runners that drop the game after 2 years complainign there is not enoguh content.
The sooners a plaer goes into a PLAYER CORP.. and then into low sec. The larger the chance he becomes a core eve gamer. "If brute force does not solve your problem..... -áthen you are -ásurely not using enough!" |

Maybe something along the lines of comparing average skill points of the war deccing corp to the average skill points of the target corp and basing the cost of the dec on that? Many thanks TL;DR - EVE is dying cuz meanie vets are scaring away new people.
Or is EVE dying because vets block up the manufacturing spaces on the n00bie training station, so that they cannot complete their introductory missions, or else have to be enterprising and find another manufacturing station, and then learn that they have to load the blueprints onto their ships to transfer it to the other new station, and then also learning (afterwards naturally) that they have to load their already mined and refined tritanium onto the ship and transfer it to the new station... and n00b. |

Well lets see -
What would you say if you saw an advertisement for EVE that went something like this:
EVE Online - Do you want to joined 500,000 other players in a single shard persistent world where skill's are time based rather than accumulative. Some of the features of EVE include:
* Starting off with 55,000 skillpoints vs players like Infinity Ziona, a 2003 character, who might have in excess of 200,000,000. * Get ganked repeatedly by players in game in even the safest parts of EVE by the numerous alts of Goonswarm and other alliances. * Get scammed both in game and out of game by experienced players while the developers applaud the scammer's for emergent gameplay. * Build an alliance and have it disbanded by alts and spies on out of game forums rather than in game mechanics. * Want to take some space, well you can't do that, however you can rent some from Goonswarm and other alliances if you really must have some. * If you're alliance doesn't get disbanded, enjoy taking on the 37,000 players in Goonswarm. Why Goonswarm you ask? Well because they pretty much own all of player conquerable and valuable space in the game. You will be crushed but I'm sure you'll have lots of fun. * Pilot an immense freighter capable of transporting huge amounts of cargo but remember, don't put huge amounts of cargo in it or alts of alliances will blow it up, even in the safest space in EVE. * Enjoy broken mechanics that will never be fixed, enjoy training up skills for months or even years and then having the developers arbitrarily change the game so all the training you did becomes pointless. Skillpoint reallocation policies? Are you crazy. * Become a member of the CSM and represent the community of EVE online but only if you can get the 37k x 3 votes to beat the current alliance domination of the CSM and the development of EVE. * PVE - we have tons, do Worlds Collides and Angel Extravaganza over and over and over and .... again... Expect to get ganked if you put anything other than T2 mods on your ships. Why do they exist? They're for Goonswarm and the other alliances to use I guess. I have no clue... just don't put them on your ship.
I could go on forever. This is not a newbie friendly game. Its horribly imbalanced. Its unnecessarily brutal to new players and most of that brutality comes from rich experienced players enjoying blowing up some newbs brand new mining barge and making them quit. The game can be summed up nicely by what happened with NC. and that guy that had cancer. Very pathetic.
Why would anyone join to be honest? Its not the EVE that CCP developed in 2003. Want to make billions a week solo running combat sites in null sec? -á Read my Exploratation Guide here -> https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=309467 |

2 things are needed to attract more new players:
-Starting off with more SP, either through much more powerful "Celebral Accelerators" or just plain old unassigned SP. 10mil SP is about the point where you can actually play EvE. (I am relatively new and personally hardly played at all in the first months because the difference in combat effectiveness is on a "not even funny" level. Its fine to be a newbro and only able to fly very few select ships at 80-90% efficiency, but flying at 70% and below you might as well stay docked, even in cheap tackle).
-Getting people in corps quicker. This is a community thing guys. Peeps like the good guys from RvB is what saves the new player experience. The first time you jump into lowsec in a frigate there should be a popup stating: "Hey there! I see you like to get blown up in your shiny spaceship. Why dont you turn around, apply to the good chaps of RvB and learn how to fly in fleets and most importantly learn that spaceships are to be considered gone as soon as you press undock." |

The usual nonsense of Ziona...
Once again all you achieve is making me think that you bought your character and have not really been arround in 2003.
Yes EvE is not the same as in 2003, but unlike what you seem to be claiming it is a lot easier for players to get into the game, which you would actually know if you would have played back in those days.
Let me just mention a few things:
- New players get lots of free stuff from tutorial missions which players back in 2003 (given they would have existed) would have had to grind for over several days. - New players have the advantage that they can learn a lot from old players while the people who played back then had to figure it out all on their own. - Getting scammed is a lot harder unless you are unable to read. (Everyone who knows the old escrow knows what i mean). - New players can make a lot more ISK and a lot faster these days, which makes ship losses a lot easier to replace. - High sec is a lot safer than it used to be back in 2003. - No more need for learning skills + higher base attributes + attribute remapping -> faster skill training for new players. - Attribute enhancers are a lot easier to afford for new players -> faster skill training for new players. - Ships are balanced a lot better these days (but of course in your book getting rid of fotm ships and iwin buttons is a bad thing) - does affect pretty much all players, including new players.
That is just a few things which I can quickly can up with which makes the life a lot easier for new players. Yet you run around and claim EvE was better back in 2003.
Which surely depends on the perspective. For people who liked a really harsh game where every single loss could actually hurt, yes for those EvE was better. For new players (the players this thread is about) it was by far worse than it is today. |

Subscrptions are up - player count isn't. It's been that way for some time.
CCP sells a good number of alt accounts to their existing player base. So the server load doesn't go up but revenues do - not a bad deal for them but they do put a lot of eggs in a few baskets when so many have multiple accounts. Lose 50 longer term players and that's liable to be 150-300 accounts gone vs 1:1 ratio.
As for the OP's statements...
"Causal" is what EVE is about.
That queue system means every time your casual player can actually play, they are fitting and flying ships better than the last time they could play - simply by feeding the queue with a couple spare minutes every few days or so and this continues across a year or more of play.
No other game with "grind time" setups enables someone with a job, family, etc. to "keep up" and advance in such a fashion and the fact it can be done with such little time invested means you can live your life and not live in your game to "keep up with friends".
Ships from 5 years ago are still functional in their roles today as they were back then. Some changes here or there but the same hulls are still of high value as "useful equipment" - show me that with other games you've played.
Newbies aren't just "victims" if they don't choose to be. They can be like piranha - a school of little things that eat bigger, meaner things - 1 at a time.
The old e-uni snicker was 25 newbies in cheap ships will chase off 5 2+ year veterans in faction fit HAC's & BC's - easily - and those vets *WILL* haul ass out of there if those newbies come at them in an organized fashion.
One level 80 wizard type will burn down 25 "level 5-10" guys in seconds while laughing about it - that doesn't happen here so your gang of newbies can and will be able to compete against lesser numbers of much older characters *IF* they get organized and work together.
As such; the only limit to your PvP survival early on is simply mandating that you *DO* work with a good number of others or you will be a victim to equivalent numbers of older chars for quite some time.
Yes teamwork is needed early on but that can and will lead to success. This is part of the design of this game and enables younger players to actually be contributing members of an assault group from days into the game. This is not a bad thing. |
