They have the best short range weapons system in the game.
Pulse Lasers with Scorch ammo are one of the best weapons at the moment. This combined with ships that have optimal range bonuses (Navy Omen, Slicer) gives good damage, good tracking and good range.
They often have armor resists as a bonus, armor resists are effectively a bonus to local and remote repair.
They look badass. |

Here's what an Amarrian will say:
"Our ships are the will and hand of God. They are designed through divine inspiration to purge all nonbelievers. They are the vessels of Reclamation both from within and from without. They stand fast and strong, delivering the His Will to all who oppose, slowly but surely." |

They look badass. Right and wrong. They're the best midrange weapon system in game. They're pretty well the only midrange weapon system in game. They're a terrible short range weapon system. They have poor tracking in close ranges, high cap use, and middling DPS. Blasters are the best short range weapon system, with the highest DPS and best tracking. Pulses are also hindered by their high cap use leaving them susceptible to neutralizers in close ranges.
Pulse Lasers are fantastic midrange weapons, beating out all long range weapon systems in tracking and matching for DPS at most ranges. The optimal is fantastic, reaching as far as scram range (frigates), disruptor range (cruisers) and around 50km (battleships) with Scorch. The range is long enough that they don't typically have to worry about neutralization.
In general, Amarrian ships are sweet because they're golden, shoot lasers, and are holy ships of The Empire. if that last reason isn't good enough for you, you should probably just leave. |

Because saying that would be far too simple. Amarrian ships are first and foremost the extension of the Empress, embodying the Amarr's constant struggle for divination. See for instance the divine images on the Dragoon or the glorious broadside of the renewed Apocalypse. Those ships are designed to show off both glory and magnificence of the Empire - they are ment to be weapons of war just as much as works of art.
Contrast this with purely utilitarian approach of the Caldari or Minmatar, who put function well ahead of the form. For a Caldari or a Minmatar, the only way to set a message is through a pure, rutheless, cold efficiency (or, you know, running guns blazing into a fight, hoping to take as many Amarri with you as possible, if you happen to be a Brutor).
To fly an Amarr ship is to be certain of yourself, your ship, your "divine right" - You trust that the Armor of God will protect you for as long as needed for your heavenly Lasers to purge the nonbelievers. That is what the Amarr ships are - the Immovable Rock in the chaos of Heaven. Sometimes it works. Other times... |

I do like the Retribution and the Harbinger. They're my 6th and 7th favorite ships respectively. I'm more a fan of the so-ugly-it's-amazing Caldari hulls aesthetically, but I will admit that there are some pretty Amarr hulls as well.
Scorch is a great thing, but that's more praise about an ammo type than an actual ship. In Need of a New Signature |

I meant the best short range weapons where short range are blaster, auto-cannons and pulse lasers and long range are railguns, artillery and beam lasers... |
