I had played EnB for about two years since release. Some guildies of mine had told me about this new game that was still in development at the time called Eve. I had checked out the web page, but to be honest I didn't think that much of it.
When I quit in disgust about 6 months before EA put the final nail in EnB's coffin I got caught in the SWG craze and played for about a year before I realized that I would get more enjoyment from hitting myself in the head with a baseball bat than I did from the constant grind of SWG. And this was before SOE totally f'ed that game up. The moral of this story is that large companies shouldn't try to run MMO's
Since I had become of fan of the MMO genre, but wasn't interested in picking flowers and chasing fairies, I started looking for a new game to waste my free time and money on. I was cruising the forums of my old EnB guild's website and a came across a thread about Eve and the improvements that had been made since release and I decided to give it a go.
I have now been playing Eve since 2004, with a couple of breaks, and I am totally hooked. I kick myself regularly for wasting a year in SWG and not getting in to Eve from the beginning

I know that feeling. Oh the time I invested in my SWG character only to see it all ubernerfed . -----

My daughter plays EVE. I've been an Everquest player since it went live, love the game. Thought I'd try EVE since my daughter plays. Didn't bother with the trial, just signed up. So far I like the game, just learning the complexities.

I noticed eve first of all in a french magazine, as a preview, but at that time I didn't had any access to internet. Later on, I got (finally) a broadband connection and discovered a friend of mine was already involved in the beta. I decided to signin, and after having made some more mails to get in, I was accepted ^^ Site ICEÖ since 978394 AD

I Played EQ for a long time and always kept up on what MMO's were out there, which ones were in beta and such. I got tired of EQ after nearly 18 months of straight playing and wanted a change. Mid 2004 I tried Eve, played it for a few months, I think I ended up with around 1M SP and got bored.
I then tried A tail in the desert (tail 1) and played that for I think 4 or 5 months. Got bored, as it is a boring game. Went back to EQ (I am in a fantastic guild there) and stayed for a few more months but the spark was lost. I played up until around October of 2004 or so and went back to Eve. At around this time I had a Girlfriend, who let's say, never really understood Eve and after 4 or 5 months of Eveing it, I let the game slide into "Just checking skills guys" mode and then I just let the account(s) lapse.
Sometime in January of 2006 I started looking for a new game to play, since I was on winter break and since breaking up with the GF, I decided to give Ryzom a go. I beta tested this game and always thought it had promise. The game is, in fact, terrible. I played it for 5 weeks having given it the trial + 1 month I thought this was more then fair. If you thought EQ had grind you've seen nothing until you play Ryzom. It is the only game I've played where you grind to allow you to grind more.
So, I decided to come back to Eve. Eve being the only game I've never had any major complaints about and always comparing it to other games I've played / play. Every beta test I've been in I always find myself making a post in the forums and saying "this is how they do it in eve and it works."

I saw a link to the Eve site in the days when I was playing Planetarion, I believe. Eve was still in beta then, and it took months before I was actually admitted into viewing that secret holiest of the holy that was Eve.
But despite all that (and I REALLY did not have the foggiest idea what the actual game would look like) the chronicles, the community, the roleplaying and everybody's sheer *****ling enthousiasm got me totally hooked

Heard about it ages ago, but we were playing World War 2 online for the last 4 years and finally gotr more burned out than frazzled bacon on a barbi, so a whole bunch of us jumped at the free trial one day, been here since last october and we're loving it, and we've since found out that there;s a ton of other WW2OL'rs here playing as well.

I was hunting for something like Freelancer with extra bite, i was mostly searching through Gamming News Sites - this was just over three years ago.
I ordered the discs to both E&B and eve (they were both cheap)
Started with E&B first, thought i would like that better. I lost interest in about 2 days, didnt even finish the tutorial.
Next i loaded up eve, the first thing that really bugged me was that you couldnt actually FLY your ship. I didnt give up with it tho, i did notice the attention to detail in gameplay (and this was when it just launched ) - stayed ever since
----------------------------------------------- please dont mail me ingame, returning to eve in June |

During the great SWG NGE exodus, my guild decided to disband. Another fleeing guildmate suggested I give EVE a try and I really liked the sound of it. Of course I'd never even heard of it before, but I quickly became a student of all things EVE and I havent looked back. Its a wonderful game!

Tried the game briefly way back in 2003(?) after hearing about it while playing JumpGate. Never really had the time to get into it, then forgot all about it. I was brought back this time after seeing ad on Penny Arcade and thinking: "Hmm, wonder how that ever turned out..."

yeah I read about the game back in 2003 (perhaps beta,) think it was PC Gamer or super play in Sweden that made a review about it. I remember them saying great graphics, sound and game and stuff. But community sucked, they didnt reccomend anyone to buy it apparently they got ganked and griefed in the game testin it
But back then I wasnt interested in MMORPG's...

Applied to EVE-Beta due to people in the Jumpgate EU boards talking about it and I wanted to see what they're blabbing about. Got accepted into the last beta (7 I think), managed to find a few friends and get into an imicus... but decided against EVE as I thought "How can they release such a buggy game" and never looked at it again...
Until I received an E-Mail from CCP offering a 14 day trial, because I've been in Beta, but never created an account (that should be taken as a prime sample of Customer Relationships I think). That was April 2004. Been here since with a few breaks here and there, and not regretting it :) (My personal skill planning covers the next years already)

Heard about it from other players in EnB beta proclaiming how much better it was. I looked it up then signed up for a beta account. About a month later, I started playing and forgot all about EnB.

I was *****ing to a friend who likes MMO's about how it sucked that E&B got shut down, cuz I wanted to play it again (I had demod it a year prior, but didn't have a CC at the time to pay with) ..
anyways he told me that EVE sounded like a similar game and to check it out.. I did.. decided I didn't like it (this was castor era) .. a year later I gave decided to try it again after reading some positive reviews and tactics pages.. been hooked since

Originally by: Coconut Joe PC Gamer UK Rants about how good Eve is, non-stop. I kinda came because of that.
Might want to rephrase that last sentence, rofl
Anyways, same reason for me. Reading that article by Jim Rossignol on EVE (was a feature, several pages) made me long for it. I got the trial and was hooked. ---------------

Was walking around Half Price Books (the local discount bookstore) and checked out their discount games section. Saw EVE-O for $5 and decided I'd check it out so I surfed the web, finding mmogrpg.com's raving reviews of the game and seeing some interesting concepts on the EVE-O site I bought the game and haven't looked back since.

Edited by: Ilya Murametz on 21/04/2006 21:19:17 Was stroling through the mall with my buddy on some much needed leave (time off) from hard week (marine corp). Saw a video game store and said whata hell lets go in there. I just purchased a laptop to pass the time back in the barracks and a video game wouldnt hurt i figured.
So we walk in, after several minutes pass by i saw this nice Box with space stuff on it and figures space shooter would be kinda cool so I purchased the game (think i payed a lot for it back than too, $39 or something)
Got back to barracks at a later time, installed the game, launched it.... and it goes: internet service needed to play ... I go WTF (i never played online games before in my life) so I grab the box and read the front of the Box this time and all the small print on the back. and to my great "suprise" I see the words under the title EvE ...them words said ONLINE. I smack my self on the forehead and go on feeling like a dumb Jarhead (bad name for Marine).
Well since there was no internet service in the barracks I mounted up and went back to the mall to return it. To find out when i got there that they can not take it back due to some kind of code inside that can be used.... So feeling dumb i go home, lay down and start reading the box. First month FREE.. i say whata hell. I hook up laptop to phone line (dial up ) and boot it up.. -----------
This was almost 3 years ago 3 accounts later .. and many sleepless nights

Way back when they actually had the box out, I got it from a friend for my birthday. Unfortunately, I was a tad impatient and couldn't stick with the game. I ****ed off some people in CoH and decided to bounce back to this game temporarily, but it turned out to not be so temporary.

Visited a friend who'd been involved in beta test two consecutive New Year's Eves, and he'd show me a few fragments of EvE each time. Third year I finally got a decent machine and internet connection. That was december 2004.

Introduced by Amber Bock (buddy from work), who has now been sold to someone else. He went to WoW.
This is my first MMO, all the others seemed too painfully one-directional. Also, too many fantasy MMOs.
I also love the time based skill progression. I can play when I want and still progress when I don't want to play. (in other words, I can have a RL without screwing over my game)
Since I've started, I've recruited my twin brother, my sister (who quit), and a buddy from work.

I was playing Guild Wars and was starting on my 3rd guild. We finally got enough people to make a site worth it, so i went hunting. I heard about Guildportal and thought "why not?" and gave it a go. They had an ad for EVE-O on our site, and i went to check it out. It took about a month for me to decide to try the trial, and i loved it.
