After EAs announcment that EnB will be closing soon I started looking for a new MMO, with the big emphasis on NOT being a fantasy hack&slash. After asking around a bit I found out about EVE.. I checked it out and it was exactly what I was looking for.
A month later I dragged most of my EnB gang to EVE and we're still playing. ------------------------ I don't believe in sigs. |

I was playing Earth and Beyond when i started playing, a guy i knew from EnB came to eve and i thought i would try it. At the time it ment forking out 20 quid for the CD but it was worth it esp with a free month.

Mine's not a tale of adventure and discovery, mysteries and loss ... I just walked into a store and saw the box and thought "what the hell". Played it for a year ( 2 years or so ago ), stopped due to lack of diversity in ship, came back couple of months ago ( and WHOAAAAA @ new stuff :D ) ---------------------------------------------------- New sig in the making ... be patient ... PATIENCE !!! |

I Googled it on semi-accident. And I am glad I did.
I was searching "MMO Reviews" and then found some of Eve and after drooling over a few screenies, I hit the main site.
Now, I'm poor. Eve takes all my cash, in one fashion or another. =(

I went for a free trial after reading about eve on some forums but didn't go for a subscription as I couldn't afford it at the time. I then signed up a few months later after reading an article on eve in EDGE magazine. --------------

I was on the final Beta. At the time I was playing Earth & Beyond and Eve just didn't work for me. As one reviewer unkindly said it was like flying a spreadsheet while squinting at text the size of a gnat's sphincter. My recollection was of thousands of empty systems with nothing I could and no one I could find to talk to.
In February 2004 it became obvious that Earth & Beyond was about to be closed so in desperation I hunted around for an alternative and gave another try. The text was still the size of a gnat's sphincter but somehow the spreadsheet feel was gone. After I'd been playing a week I more or less quit Earth & Beyond on the spot. E&B looked nicer (lots of jolly pretty colours) and was more 'fun' but something in Eve appealed to me.
Joining a corporation called Soldiers of Anarchy (run by the excellent Spaceman and Dianabolic) probably had a lot to do with it. Looking back on my noobishness I'm amazed they put up with me but something must have clicked. No longer in the same corporation I keep occasional contact with them. That's probably the secret about Eve - the danger and risk means that when you find a good guy the relationship stays solid.
26 months on and I'm still here. Probably classed as a veteran by now . According to the logserver I've been averaging 2.6 hours a day -- (Battle hardened miner)

Six months later and several trial accounts later, I was in.
Kudos if you can name the game I was playing.

I was actually updating my DirectX, and noticed a little banner in the show-case section that looked interesting. I clicked on it, and was hooked on the Elite-feel. No trials at the time, but i never regretted it

Actually When Command and Conquer: Renegade Came out i started playing online and meeting people, one person (Can't remember name now) well weither it was true of not said he helped beta test/program Renegade, and then told me what his Current project was, and gave me the Link to eve-online, (this was during early beta) so i basicly read everything on the site inside out until i got accepted to beta. Those my eve life begain.
Took a break when retail came out. but got a 14 day come back offer and have not stopped playing since.
if any dev was that person who gave me the link to eve-online.com in gamespy Thank you :)
Now how did you hear about eve?
Actually, when I went for EVE I was pretty cool (as in cold) to the game. The game had after all less then 100k players, while the now defunct game from SOE, SWG, had around 250k of players. So I had no great illutions about it. EXCEPT for ONE THING!!! This game was supposed to be equipped with Mature players, who for a (at that time) unknown reason stuck with the game for a VERY long time if they first started to play it!
When I started to play it I almost started to cry because I did not join this game at a earlier date! You see, I LOOKED on the game already in 2003, but decided against it. Mainly because I thought that "what fun can u have in a game that wont take you out of your ship???"
Now I LOVE IT. Now: I cant be without it. And I regret every time I log in that I did not start at the very beginning, and that I went for the crappy SWG instead of this diamond of a game.
Now I hope the Devs will excuse myy stupidness which took me to SWG instead of EVE. I should have known better!!!!
PS: I Started to play EVE in December 2005

Freelancer forum. Finished Freelancer, then went onto the forum to find out what was next, and someone had put a linkeh in to the eve site. Was sold on it straight away, but it took me 'till June 2003 to work up the courage to pay a subscription.
Oh how I mourn for the lost ... weeks ...

A friend told me about the beta, signed up (had no real idea what it is but sounded like playing a new type of game for free). Got a key, but my hardware didnt support the game :( so this friend used it and told me stories about it - didn't get me too excited but sounded interesting. After a couple of years I was thinking what to play, got bored of other games so thought I should try some MMO; so I remembered Eve and decided to try it. This was in oct/nov 2004 or so. - DISCLAIMER: Any views or opinions presented anywhere in this post are solely those of the author and do not necessarily represent those of HUN Corp or FE unless otherwise specifically stated. |

I read about it on mmorpg.com, when I got bored with EverQuest.
Tried it for a few weeks, didn't really care for it all that much because of the steep learning curve.
Went to Asheron's Call 2, PlanetSide, WoW, City of Heroes. . . .
Always kept coming back to check the forums here, though. Figured I'd give it another shot, and haven't looked back since.
Now have active subscriptions to like 5 MMOs, but EVE is played the most by far.
