Edited by: madaluap on 24/04/2006 12:09:33 *Ok, First of all this is my analyse of hacprices and READ my post before you post mkay
When hacs first came out the active playerbase was about 50% smaller than these days, also not too many people maxed out there cruiser skill and such and pricing was (after the initial first month or 2) quite low.
But EvE is a real succes story and more people joined and got into the Sp-lvl required for hacs, so more bought em. This resulted in hac prices to rise.
This is how it should work, just like the ishkur going from 12 mil to 20 because it was a lot better, because of dronechanges. The more people like a ship the higher the price.
This proces continued and some hacs sell for more than tech 2 BC. This has everything to do with: 1. funfactor of hacs 2. less SP to fly hacs than BC 2
Only my issue is: now the good hac's went into the league of 150-200 mil i haven't moaned simply done what is the right thing: DONT buy them, if you dont want to or cant afford them. So i havent bought any hac.
Here is my major issue:
i get freacking scared when im flying a 200 mil ship that can be downed by 4 heavy nos and what happens when i get scared and cant fly the kick-your-nutz off way: i die (sort of weird mental thingie )basically losing less ships when you dont care about dying.
i have even though about fitting something on my ship that starts with a W and ends on arpcore stabiliser..
it all comes down to this:
--- Hac market and some other tech 2 items needs to be updated so the % of growth in EvE matches the new ammount of BPO in the hands of players. ---
this is a playerdriving market, but its flawed. if CCP decides to put 100 caprecharger 2 bpo on the market you can buy them for 5 mil, so please no "demand and production babble".
i havent flown a hac in the last 9 months and now IM SICK of waiting SICK of "market, demand arguments" and i want to fly a goddamn hac again for 90 mil with isnt cheap, its a loss of pure 100 mil including fitting. I dont want them for 20 mil they are elite and should be priced like it, but i see ****loads of AF in pvp and a very small percentage of hacs. actually im seeing more BC 2 than hacs...
they are to pricy and thats all because CCP doesnt update the ammount of bpo to the ammount of players since their introduction.
discuss

Signed, sealed, triplicated, the only people that will come here and say 'hac prices are fine' are people in alliances that don't sell to market and thus suck, etc.

They are too pricy because there aren't enough blueprints. The easy way to cobmat this is to release T2 BPCs as mission rewards, instead of the dross that we get at the moment from missions. Also gives more people incentive to diversify and play 'other' sides of the game.
Personally, I still buy HACs at silly prices, because I love them. There will *never* be enough players refusing to buy HACs to drive the price down, as long as there's even a few people buying them at inflated prices, they'll sell at them, because people are greedy. If you can get more money for something, then why sell it for less?
The problem will *only* go away when CCP release more BPOs - or BPCs - hopefully with their new, improved, none lottery T2 BP system we keep hearing so little about.

i dont have a problem with releasing more bpo's, however as usual, my answer is, deal. i was in an alliance with no usable hac bpo's for a very long time, and when i wanted a hac, i just saved. one other thing you have to realise is that more and more muppets who think just cause they've trained cruiser 5 they are ready to fly a hac are buying them, blame them for the rising prices as well. ____________________________________________

Yep, you're right. If you had 1 bpo of an HAC in game, a ship would be worth 500M+, no doubt, offer & demand you know. The problem is that A LOT of t2 bpo are damn near worthless while a few are insaningly good, like cap rech t2, covert cloak, t2 cloak, HACs. Solution seed BPC "offers" from research agent, player can decline them. Everyone will take the cap rech t2 BPC and no one will take any reactive plating 2 BPC. It could be possible to fix the market by seeding a few t2 bpo of each, and to "adjut" to the offer and demand seed a number of BPC every day, proportionnal to the total number of skillpoints of all active characters, or something in this line.

Dont get me wrong - I do agree with you.
Personally, I think the best way of distributing T2 blueprints would be to have research agents have you do something else other than sit and let research accrue, and then have a kind of 'shop' rather than get random offers, where you can spend your LP for T2 BPCs and BPOs - with BPOs being very hard to get, and BPCs being easier.
Whatever happens, it needs to be a system where you need to put effort in to get stuff out. People who want to research should get a system they can enjoy rather than one where they sit and wait. And they should be rewarded more than people who do nothing for research and simply train a couple of skills, then sit and hope (like now).

Keep in mind also that HACs are not only used for PvP, but they are very good PvE ships too.
You can see that especially with the Cerberus, that was always a not so good PvP ship (it was made more recently with some boosts), but it was ALWAYS one of the most pricy HACs (beeing the only msl HAC didn't constribute to the price).
There was always a "flavor of the month" with HACs. For a time it was Deimos, Zealot, Ishtar and now Vagabond.
The T2 BC, even if they have more firepower than a HAC, they don't have the small sig rad of it and the fast mobility of one. The leadership skills don't help it too at their sales, seeing T2 BC beeing sold at a slight profit margin (prod cost is about 80m if I remember correctly).
Some changes to the type they are distributing the BPOs and how research is done is long awaited and I hope we will see the changes before the end of summer, or atleast the end of the year. _____________________________

i tried to write it with a bit more passion and arguments, basicaly what every "demand, supply" dude forgets, is that in order to have true demand and supply both factors can change. this is not the case in eve, only demand can change, unless some lonely jovian decides to add more bpo or that bpc idea which is infact a lot better _________________________________________________ no sig :( |

Limited supply + high demand = inflated prices.
Until people stop buying its going to stay this way, tbh i can afford them but more and more i find myself relcuctant to pay the price, that said t2 bpc offers might help but i think, depending on how many runs on the bpc, that if there are high run offers most people will sell them, and the bpo owners would probably buy them up to keep a grip on the market, or if the number of runs is too small the guy who gets it will probably build them himself and sell them, which wouldnt really affect the bpo owners income anyway which means nothing will really change that much.
In conclusion only the release of more bpo's might make a difference, but im not sure.

oo a HAC whine thread... must be Monday.
I agree tho, would be nice to see them sold near insurance values. Think ccp are working on it.

Edited by: Karazaan on 24/04/2006 16:45:57 You are SO missing the point...
Go back 2 years ago.
Everyone was happy in a battleship, losing them right and left, no problem, they were costing nothing (insurance was even too good!).
When a fix was done to gameplay, let's saw tachyon are nerfed, dps were recalculated for each guns/launchers and the new winner of the dps was choosen as the uber king. Everyone had that weapon. So missiles were better? Everyone in Ravens, Tachyon were ultimate? Everyone in Apocs.
Simple fact is, everything is fixed now.
They are hard to build, long production chain, costy, limited supply. Oh yeah, wait until you see tech 3!!!
Insurance don't cover the value, so you incur real loss if you choose to take that risk.
Specialization fixed the jack-of-all-trade problem.
Is'nt it nice to not see all your enemy in HAC?
Now, if people you stop to lose the damned ships in combat, price would lower.
As the old saying go, Battleship level 1 is not the only skill you need to be good at piloting a battleship...
damn grammar!
Look MOM, I'm in a whine HAC thread! |

It simply say, romanced a little, that the price is high so that not everyone is in the best HAC with the best setup fighting everyone else with the best HAC with the same setup.
BPO are limited, time of production is LONG and they die easy

do you mean 'it's a good thing the prices are high otherwise everybody and his aunt would be flying them'? If so then fair point, there's enough stabbed vagabonds around as there is. One of them watched from 50ks as we fought his gangmates the other day. Loyalty ftw :)

I'm meaning it's exactly the way the devs see it if you take into account the bpo availibility, insurance payback and the overall skills specialization.

tbh imo one of the problems is the extreamly small DPS incrase on guns as you go up from small --> med --> Large. there are other benifits like more range ect but on a close range ship the difference goes from 10km to 20km and the incrased speed of smaller ships enables taht gap to be closed fast!
imo decrease damage of ALL medium guns and ALL small guns.
at the moment the DPS increase goes like this
medium guns have 33.33% more DPS than the small conuterpart. Large guns have 33.33% more DPS than the medium counterpart.
this is extreamly small and means that a gun on a af does NEARLY as much DPS as the equivlant gun one size up on a crusier ect
if they changed it to be medium guns have 50% more DPS than the small counterpart large guns have 50% more DPS than the medium counterpart imo game would be much more balanced! [by that i mean leave large guns how they are, and decrease medium guns dmg so that the difference from med to large is 50% ect]
that imo would improve eve and the current hac price situations

And that's why I updated you on the fact that price will stay high and why.
You ask about a % increase that goes with the population, but it does'nt work, is it 20 HAC and 20 Shield Flux Coil 2 ? Well, nobody use them, so why care. Availability can't go with the use because the use of the module CAN change, like Damage Control for example, so you can't put more because people use it more. If everyone goes to BC2, there will be an oversupply of HAC and their market will crash.
Market must follow the movement, not the movement follow the market. The market should'nt cause the crash.

HAC prices are fine, im not a builder and no longer have cheap HAC contacts, just spent 250 mill on a vaga (ship plus equip) few weeks back well worth it.
Although wouldnt spend the price on certain ones mainly cus think they suck to the alturnitives. ie would buy a zealot not a deimos ect.

The more BPOs that are handed out, the greater the chance that respectable sellers like Naga will get their hands on them. If you really think handing out more BPOs will do nothing to fix the problem, you should ask why BSes, command ships, and other high-powered vessels are not equally overpriced. Why don't AFs cost 50mil each, for example? They could if the wrong people controlled most AF BPOs, but those who do produce AFs are responsible enough that prices don't go through the roof.
A far better solution that others have already mentioned would be to drop BPCs from rats, hand out BPCs as mission rewards, or guarantee that reverse engineering will make many-run BPCs. Anything to spread out production control of HACs and other elite/t2 merchandise.

Easy.
If CCP will seed more bpos - rich peeps, who is allready have hacs bpos, and theyr fun in accumulate isk \ assets will buy it. Sure price will drop, but i doubt, that this drop will be significant. Rich will became richer, at this point.
If CCP will cut production time - same thing. Why should you sell hacs at 2 x production price, when there is loads of rich morons, who`ll buy it at 8x ?
t2 bpc = solution. They will be accesible to anyone, with enough patience and dedication.

You cant blame the producers for what resellers do, and you cant blame the resellers for reselling really because the ships will sell for whatever people are willing to pay, if all stock is selling at a certain price then the ship IS worth that much.
Adding more HAC bpos into game would knock the prices down, and i think if its true there is only 8 of each whilst theres 20 of each of new types of ship bpo, then they need to seed at least 12 more HAC bpos.

releasing more bpos ftw...
you spent 10 months training for HACs, then another 6 for decent support skills... then you have to pay twice the cost of a BS for one then get popped by a BS with 2 heavy nos
yay!
p.s. I don't fly Hacs as i'm too much of a cheapskate and don't really see the point when I could just buy a freakin' domi for 1/4 the price -------------

so you do agree, btw i have some isk stacked to being able to lose a couple deimos, but i have done what everyone keeps saying, fly something cheaper if you dont want to pay 200 mil for a hac.
offcourse! for some people hacs are worth it, else these prices wouldnt exist. im just saying that they might need to update the ammount of hacs produced to the ammount of players, that are in the game atm. DONT increase all tech 2 bpo, which i allready stated in my first post.
and yes i like that bpc idea, because that way those people that have enormous ammounts of LP can get there 10-run cerb bpc instead of a tech 2 rocket bpo...
it balances bpo, less crap bpo = increased price and more pbc for items that are trully needed.

I think the problem is also this: People who pvp only, and dont have a bpo available, would think 200 mil to be alot... However, since a carebear can generate isk like Bill Gates at little or no risk, 200 mil is like what u can earn in a days work, then a hac is just pocket change.
So the economy is like this: Hacs are for ppl with deep pockets only(carebears, complex runners), while pvpers risk alot and gain little(other than the fun that eve is all about).
If you look at faction mods, navy issue bs's the prices are also to the roof, compared with lesser versions. If you want the extra edge, its gonna cost. What I see as the main problem with t2 ships and faction ships are the insurance, and that cant be altered coz a hac costs like 20 mil to build, thus u get that amount from a platinum insurance(if u do spend ur isk on this). So let say. if builders would sell a hac for 50 mil, and lets say for arguements sake that noone in eve would buy them to resell at 200 mil; then who would produce them? You could make far more isk with less hassle in other ways, thus no hacs to be sold at all... At least u can buy them now more frequently than before.
The only way out of this would be that CCP decided to let the npcs build t2 ships and sell them by the 1000s. Now that would be the grandest of all ideas, coz Eve should be a pvp game, not a isk generating simulator. _______________________________________

Every BPO in the game should have price in RP. So every dedicated player can get one. For now we have unfair situation where older player who got BPO when the first batch of BPOs was seeded have big advantage. No amount of RP nor dedication will give you Cerberus BPO now because they are not seeding it. I call it unfair. Every player in the game should have the same starting chance. It should be upto you if you can take it.

One factor the OP forgets is inflation...
Let's not forget that with the introduction of new freighters and barges etc, many people are now making insane amounts of ISK and can buy HAC at 250 to 400 mil each as that is just a few hours work to make...
IF you're NOT at the peak of the learning curve, you will find all the EVE prices rising and your ISK account getting smaller and smaller to the point where EVERY thread is about this price, that price, these prices, etc etc...
In other words, the real stealth nerf is against the PVPers...
If you are playing this game to solely PVP, then you aren't really making ISK as well as those who are good industrialists... This means you either have to PVP on the cheap (and resent HAC prices) OR PVP on the elite with a corpum fitted HAC, etc... [or PVP on the lame with a stabbed out ship cause you can't go elite or cheap]...
SO, HAC prices... pretty much fine as is... Will they hit 300-400 mil each cross the board? YES, in 5-8 months they will all be that way unless the inflation stops or the supply moves into balance it... |

Err I won my Bpo with 4.7k RPs with a -12/-14 lev 2 agent. And yes you may assume I was lucky.
you want lower prices, then petition the devs to lower the build time ( all be it for a limited time).as this would be the only way to lower the current prices - ie to sate demand now. All the Hac producers would much prefer to build more ships for less profit. this would kill the re seller market. and stop the continual whines about hac producers.
anyway back to doing stuff ... ooh I know ill count my isk..

More BPOs or even BPCs for T2 would be good. But even with more BPs, you still need more parts being made. Which means you need more moons with some of those hard to find moon materials.

Quote: this is a playerdriving market, but its flawed. if CCP decides to put 100 caprecharger 2 bpo on the market you can buy them for 5 mil, so please no "demand and production babble".
The reason I quote the law of supply and demand is because people who don't understand supply and demand tend to make highly flawed suggestions as to how to fix the problem. HAC producers are not gouging. Gouging happens when you charge over the equilibrium price. Given the long wait time to fill orders, HAC prices need to go higher still to hit the equilibrium point.
That doesn't mean that HAC prices aren't a problem. It means that the invisible hand of the market is doing its job, and we just need to help it a bit so the supply side of the equation can keep up better with the demand side.
People who think HAC producers are gouging tend to suggest solutions that involve somehow punishing HAC producers, like flooding the market with bpcs/bpos, or having NPC corps sell them. Assuming an incorrect reason for the problem tends to create flawed solutions. ---- "Well in this case, he's being flamed, and rightly so, for whinning about a game mechanic that doesn't actually exist." -Lorth |

I'm surprised u didnt get the usuall "life isnt fair, deal with it." reply for that. I agree with you to a certain degree, I mean sure we have other chances at some other new items like the new battle cruisers and such . But so do the older players that have had a shot at HAC bpo's .

I totally agree that the current prices of HACS are ludicrous and CCP needs to take a look at it. The only problem I see in the future however, is that many of people and small corps who recieve a T2 BPO/BPC (if they are implemented) will most likely put it up on escrow for a few billion for the quick money, so they can buy what they want. Its the big alliances and production corps that will buy the T2 BPO off them, because these guys are standing back and looking at the long run. Most small corps/solo players will not try to produce lots of pricy to build HACs when they can get alot of isk quickly. Therefore when the BPO IS sold on escrow to the big guys with all the cash and T2 BPOs since they are the only ones that can afford it, we are in the same situation we started with...

Personally it doesn't have an effect on me as I bought a ton of HACs when they first came out and still have 'many' but even without the issue affecting me directly I can see the price is stupid.
Supply and demand might be a tenant on which Eve is founded upon but with the the tech 2 market there is no capacity to increase supply so inflation will always push prices up.
That's just basic Microeconomics, we have no price elasticity in supply and so because games are essentially an aspirational past-time demand will always be inelastic, and thus inflation sensitive. Traditional supply and demand would say that if the price of any item went up then you would have a proportional increase in the amount of items created to capitalise on that profit and thatincreased supply would temper price inflation.
The approach that I think is a mistake is by just telling people "work for it" as there has to be a finite limit to how much work you expect people to put in before they will just think feck it and stick to what they have, this in itself will not reduce the prices but will reduce the inflation rate. That in itself is a problem in our virtual world because you have to have a system in place where people can still measure their own progression, if people don't ever see themselves as progressing (by getting better ships for examply) then they will stop playing.
I honestly think that because of the player driven economy that they put in place CCP needs to hire an economist to help guide their macroeconomic decisions, at the end of the day the population of Eve is now half that of Iceland itself and so deserve to have a system in place that can properly deal with supply and demand.
The easiest way I would see is that initially a T2 blueprint would be issued to X number of people (currently around 20 I believe), over time the demand for that item will increase because the population increases but also because more people become skilled enough to use the item. Because of that they need to increase the supply, most easily through still giving out the BP's with no set limit of supply, the problem would be find an algorithim that would correctly balance the supply (via the control of BP's)
The net impact on producers would be 0 as a proper algorithim would not oversupply the market (and so reducing prices) until such time as the item is no longer desirable, yet using a T2 item as a pre-requisite for its corresponding T3 item would indefinately maintain that demand and so its revenue generation.
To all those that think the current situation is fine I would ask that you find a friend that has any sort of background or understanding of economics and put it to them a situation in which the government artifically limits supply of an item that has an inelastic demand, limits the number of producers, doubles the customer base of that item but then refuses petitions of further intervention to resolve the situation. See what they say about it.

Well why not exactly? T2 has a much longer supply chain than T1, and greater skill requirements; both of these will act as barriers to entry into the manufacturing market.
Of course, manufacturers might only be able to realize a 10 mil profit on a ship rather than 150 mil, but many more players would be able to participate in this aspect of the game...

Infact its the only thing keeping EvE from being purely a 'time played' thing. If players were able to throw HACs out the window the way they do with anything that costs less than 50m uninusred, it would mean literally anyone without the skills to fly a Force Recon or HAC might as well not bother launching.
More power = more risk is something excellent. I don't see any reason at all for this to change.
And before anyone here complains about the fact that I personally don't have the skills to fly HACs, who the hell cares? I frequently buy and fly faction cruisers, which are nothing but underpowered HACs and I still don't see the big freaking deal.

nah tech 2 insurance is fine, its far to playercontrolled to make tech 2 ships fully insurable, they are elite.

Are you saying you need more skills to fit a BS than a HAC.... lol
A BS is a better platform... some of the time. In a smaller roaming gang a HAC is far more useful and your arguement seems to be that it is better because it is cheaper... er missing the point slightly I think, the HAC should be an uninsurable loss but it shouldn't be twice the price of a BS. Equal at most and if uninsurable then that's still a big monetary loss if you get blown up.
I think we also miss another point on the BPO system, people bemoan the prices and the profit that holders supposedly make.
The thing takes a day and a half to make ffs, so even if they are making 120m each on them then they are making a total of 80m a day. As you can get than in an hour from mining its hardly a money spinner.
Coupled that with the fact that there are I believe about 20 blueprints of each ship around , that means around 12 of each ship per day. Between 100,000 potential customers. Figuring 50,000 of them have been playing for over a year then thousands of them will be able to fly them.
The system is whack.

What do you mean, seem to forget? I can fly a blasterthron fine, i know that ill probably kill another hac easily. Who is talking about skills? BS are boring, they turn around like bricks. You are claiming BS are more powerfull, thus should cost less... .
And where did i judge the bpo system? I dont care who gets the money, im stating the ammount of BPO should be updated or a special pbc system introduced...maybe bpc through agent LP rewards... _________________________________________________ In worldwar 2 they called me *****slap |

i would assume with the new reserch system comining in, that they will double every BPO out there not only hacs but mods and the lot
reason is that tranq population has more than doubled in the last 18months or so -------------------Sig-----------------------
Boost the raven, i dont know how since its got great volley damage, massive range, any damage type, overpowered tank BUT BOOOOOOOSTTTT them raveneeeeen |

Totally agree, since player base have drastically increased more T2 BPOs need to hit the market signature removed, height restriction applies email the mods for more info - Vanamonde

Perhaps there is another solution... The main reason why the HACs are so scarse is due to production time. Why not also working on this issue?
A change in the industrial system allowing to produce items faster at an increased component and ISK cost may be a solution (think overtime at the factories, and wasted components due to faster works leading to more mistakes)
The current BPo owner may be able to choose either to use the basic speed and keeping a high margin per item, or go with faster production with less margin per items, but overall better margin per production day...
If a lot of producer goes with the "worker union nightmare" job speed, then offer may become too large for the demand, leading to a price reduction, reducing their margins even more and giving an edge to the producers that used the basic speed. If a lot of producers stay with the base speed, then the prices won't change much and the producers who decided to go on high production speed will reap some nice benefits.
For current T1 items, it won't change anything as the margins are too low to gain anything with faster production speed.
Perhaps someone may have another idea about it...
(and NO, I have no HAC BPo... not even a single T2 BPo offer in about 1.5 year of R&D... My crying on the corp channel each time a corpmate gets a T2 BPo are quite notorious :p )

Personally i rather have a BPC system that includes:
- Giving up R&D points for PBC, rather have 10X cerb-run than 1X rocketstuff or something (I know they arent in the same resarch area, but you get the point.)
- Tech 2 ships & items in the agent pool in the form of PBC
- Also updating bpo in comparising with playerbase growth
With this i guess hacs will cost around 80-100 mil.. _________________________________________________

Might be the cheap HACs.

We need more HACs in the game and they need to be considerably less expensive so pilots don't have to spend so much isk to replace them.
Also, the price of a lot of the other newer stuff seems to be rising too. This needs to be reversed, along with the insane prices for captial ships and all things related to using them.
Way too expensive.
I'm tired of flying this Bellicose....
Maybe each week every player should just find a new EVE-donated HAC in his hanger. Or other ship of choice.
People who comment about HAC prices have a point, but I really don't agree with it. I am willing to fly a second rate ship if I don't want to spend what I consider to be too much isk for my budget. The point I am trying to make is that there is fun in the challenge of flying well each ship in the game, not just a small elite portion.
Your opinion may well differ,

Add a multiplier to HAC insurance, i.e. you can insure them for half the value of the current EVE-wide market agregrate, this reduces the risk. Not the crappy 10mil or whatever you can insure it at today.
You get what you pay for with a HAC, yes, you pay a lot, but they are almost godly in comparrision to all other sub-BS ships. I am not that unhappy that they are not too prevelant and only the rich can use them for PVP, they are sickly powerful in most circumstances, using them should carry risk, that risk today is financial.

But dont you think that adding this multiplier would make producers raise their prices evenmore because suddenly there is more demand? With a full insurance more people are willing to fly the ships, so producers raise there prices up to 350 mil instead of 220 mil because, now you get 100 mil extra insurance payout...
